Quisoves Pugnat Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Well, this has been an exciting two days! It's interesting to see that Makuta has been made a bit more like Karhzahni and Artahka. I like the brothers bit, it's (yet another) nice callback to the Mata Nui years. As for the lack of a Mata Nui, I think that's a good thing. If the story still had a character by that name, fans would be prone to assume that he's a giant robot, made by the Great Beings on Spherus Magna, etc. This way, there are no preconceptions, and the story team consequently has a lot more liberty. The more that's revealed about the new Bionicle, the more excited I am. I like the direction it's taking. "On one hand, Lewa finds new ways, on the other these ways sometimes lead to new trouble!" Onua's going to come in handy. :P "Powers: Communes with plants and the wind" This is an interesting resolution to the whole "Lives in Jungle but controls Air" issue. It definitely makes him one of the more powerful Toa. Books for Bionicle confirmed.Greg will not be writing the books. There will be an all-new team. Wait, so that FAQ document was forged? Or was it simply erroneous? Quote

DuckBricks Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Amazing. Amazing. Yes please mask packs!! I imagine a promo for a "rare gold mask" being randomly included in some Toa... Yeah, Makuta and the new Mata Nui poser guy seem more like Karzhanni and Artahka... Quote
KazeMonsuta Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) The gold masks will most likley be scalper items. Limited number and hard to get, as usual. Edited October 9, 2014 by KazeMonsuta Quote
arc Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 This thread is going to explode. it already has. And those gold masks... please let those be available somehow. Quote

Kalhiki Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 This thread is going to explode. It already did. I just had, like, five pages to catch up on (darn school). Anywho..... HYPEHYPEHYPEHYPE So exciting! The animation and art style is glorious. No TV show according to BZP's tweets, but they'll be online animations. I'll live. Ekimu is cool. I can dig. Makuta's return is most welcome. The gold chrome (I assume. I can't imagine solid gold) masks will hopefully be the standard gold masks for the sets. Otherwise, it'll probably be an exclusive random in the sets while the others get regular gold plastic. Blagh! Too much to discuss. I'm just going to wait this out and take the brunt of the hype storm. Quote
toatali Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 No TV show guys, just short web animations :( Quote
Vinyl Scratch Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 No TV show guys, just short web animations :( Better than nothing. Quote
Quisoves Pugnat Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 https://www.facebook...510720592502352 Kopaka has skis! #hikermike The legacy continues! Now all we need is for Lewa to have wheels, and #Turbo2015 will be a reality! Quote
Dorek Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 This is secretly a Slizers reboot don't tell anybody. (also his SPEAR doubles as a POLE that's genius!) Quote
montgocloud Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 why the hell is makuta a mask maker. why the hell is his brother named ekimu. you have one more chance, lego. Because this is a reboot. You have to change things up in a reboot, otherwise what's the point? Have you seen the Vince Vaughn Psycho remake? It's a shot-for-shot remake of the original. Does that make it good? NOPE! As long as they don't change the core concept of the property, changes should be encouraged. Quote
Timeline15 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) Well, Hiker mike and onepu live on through kopaka and Onua, so I'm happy. The pics on the facebook page showing off the alternate weapon functions are cool. Tahu still has his bulldog face though. :/ The fact that there are web animations rather than a series makes me worry about the characterisation in them (it will no doubt be fine in the story/books, but these shorts....) with limited runtime, these shorts could easily evolve into demonstrations of the new "comedy" elements to the toas' characters. I'm already picturing an entire episode dedicated to onua's snoring. Oh god why. >.< Edited October 9, 2014 by Timeline15 Quote
Kalhiki Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Okay, I've calmed down a bit. I really like where this is going. I really do. It's lighthearted and more kid friendly, which I prefer over the dark grittiness of the later years of Bionicle. The characterizations of the Toa are actually pretty cool. I like how they have strengths as well as relatable weaknesses (oh, and sleepy Onua. <3 ). And the route they've taken with Makuta and Ekimu is great. The brotherliness of Makuta and Mata Nui kinda fizzled later on, and I missed that connection. Quote

At least we have an explanation for those chunky legs... ;) Quote

DuckBricks Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I actually personally like the use of those simplistic animations, seems like a more serious almost Mixel-like animation Quote

Kalhiki Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Eh, sleepy Onua is kinda meh... But clumsy Kopaka is really the worst... At least we have an explanation for those chunky legs... ;) Sleepy Onua makes him loveable. Big sleepy guys are the best. :D Clumsy Kopaka I can handle because I've always pictured his scope as an eye patch. One eye -> no depth perception -> clumsy. (yeah, I know that's not the case with lack of depth perception, but whatever helps me sleep at night, yeah?) His legs are in casts! of course! I think you've found your next artwork, kahliki :P I have way too much stuff to draw... :P Quote
Timeline15 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) You all won't be so happy when Takanuva shows up and his character consists of "he sneezes a lot" XD Also just read on TTV twitter that lewa was initially master of air, but was changed to jungle cos "that's what people associate with green" GodDammit lego -_- Edited October 9, 2014 by Timeline15 Quote
Sanoreti Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) With Artahka/Ekimu being originaly connected to the creation of the toa, and makuta creating the spiders in his slumber, is it possible that the toa were created by Ekimu while he was sleeping, as a counter to makuta's skull spiders? Also, these flash animations remind me of the ones release back in the day :) Edited October 9, 2014 by Sanoreti Quote
The Kumquat Alchemist Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) It's tragic because we have to wait The video: Well, Ekimu certainly is an interesting development. Perhaps the name Mata-Nui is being saved for something else? Even if not, I can understand why it was changed; Mata-Nui doesn't sound very good alongside Makuta, whereas the name Ekimu fits better for two beings who are likely to be literal brothers. The story presented so far is simplistic, but so was the original BIONICLE's when it first came out, so I can't judge anything about that yet. I am glad we're getting a mask quest, hopefully it means we might get mask packs. Lastly, I am again getting a very Dwemer vibe from Ekimu and Makuta, just as I did from the MOCr concept art. It is a fitting association, since in TES, the Dwemer were known to manipulate magical forces in distinctly mechanical ways. Now all we need is for Makuta to make a giant robot called Mata-Nui from the souls of all the island's inhabitants The website: Well, we've got character bios and official set photos. The photos don't add much to what we've already seen, but the bios are interesting. As was pointed out earlier in the thread, it's nice that Kopaka's bio confirms that the term 'Toa' will be making a comeback, despite the sets being branded as 'Masters'. Some seem rather annoyed at Kopaka's and Onua's flaws of clumsiness and sleepiness respectively, but those are physical issues; their personalities are still true to the originals, so these changes don't bother me. The Masks: Oh boy, convention exclusives! Well, that's my gut reaction, though I'm hoping for a wider release of the clear Hau, similar to the trans-green Miru of 2001. The chrome gold masks I don't care for. What sort of MoC could I use them on? As for masks in general, I'm disappointed that side-clip connections are pretty much confirmed for all of them.
