Timeline15 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) TTV: "The reboot was compared to the “Star Trek movies” reboot, where there is a connection to the old universe" I hope that's in the 'alternate universe' sense, and not in the 'we're going to change something in such a way that the old story never happened' sense. I wouldn't have minded the trek reboots as much is they hadn't actively aborted the old timeline, and made the characters aware that it happened. Whereas, I wouldn't be adverse to the occasional universe crossover special. two toa mata teams together? awesome. Edited October 9, 2014 by Timeline15 Quote
DuckBricks Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Wait, this is a video screenshot. Does anyone have a link to that? I've only seen the one TTV filmed, which (although the effort was nice) isn't too great due to the people talking loudly over it, and the angle, etc. Check the Bionicle Facebook page! Quote
Dorek Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Honestly, the Start Trek reboot is a horrible example because it is an alternate universe. We've already had those, and they're supposed to be pretty different. If we want to shuffle around some definitions, fine, but I much prefer the idea of a brand new continuity. The fact that there's any doubt at all shows how messy it'll be anyway, since people define "reboot" in five million different ways... Quote

I believe the new story is a completely new story that will branch off from the original... Quote
GK733 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 The toa indeed crashed to the island of Okoto, but from where? A different timeline it seems. Quote
Dorek Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) Agreed... I believe the new story is a completely new story that will branch off from the original... But... if it branches off from the original, is it "completely new"? This is the problem I have with the varying definitions =P. The toa indeed crashed to the island of Okoto, but from where? A different timeline it seems. If TTV is right in their information, then it would seem so. I had gotten my hopes up when they said they'd reduce the terminology to make it more accessible, so I don't see why they'd pull something like this... Edited October 9, 2014 by Dorek Quote

Timeline15 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) Honestly, the Start Trek reboot is a horrible example because it is an alternate universe. We've already had those, and they're supposed to be pretty different. My point is that the trek reboots left old spock as the only survivor of the old timeline, everyone he had known non-existent, all the events he remembered never to happen. Not exactly a good ending for him. I don't want the Bionicle universe to be erased in the same way. I'm totally happy for this new universe to be fully its own thing. I just don't want that half-connection of the timelines that totally erase the old one. Edited October 9, 2014 by Timeline15 Quote
GK733 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) Yeah I don't get the the need of connection of either. They still have to explain at somepoint how in the hell and why did they time/dimensiontravel why they lost their powers and changed their appearance that much. Or you know what? The Toa will probably just have amneisa again so it doesn't need to explained. Edited October 9, 2014 by GK733 Quote
InfurnallDragon Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) By definition a history or story is a new reality, therefore an alternate reality. Even if they never recognize the old one at all or connect to it in any way it would be another reality. The old one existed at some poitn and now this one does. Doesnt matter what you call it, entity, continuation, reboot, its all alternate possibilities or alternate timelines. Edited October 9, 2014 by InfurnallDragon Quote
DuckBricks Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Where are the screenshots of the new webisodes everyone was talking about? Quote
Timeline15 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) The Toa will probably just have amneisa gain so it doesn't need to explained. Magical amnesia that changes lewa's elemental power, removes their mask powers, and give onua a sleeping disorder. Well played story team, well played... Edited October 9, 2014 by Timeline15 Quote
GK733 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Is there any evidence for this, beyond the comparison to the Trek reboot? Not much new, but thought it was worth pointing out the Toa 'crash onto the Island' just like the original story. Canisters again? Or a ship maybe? This and what TTV have said. Quote

Well played story team, well played... This is something those of us in the writing business call a retcon, they come in various flavours. Quote
Kalhiki Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I want Bio15 to be a completely different entity from the old story. No connection. ... Except maybe Vezon... Quote
Timeline15 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) I'm aware of retcons, and am of the opinon that they are one of the worst evils man has ever created. I want Bio15 to be a completely different entity from the old story. No connection.... Except maybe Vezon... I want a movie where Tahu enters the Bio15 world though a magic mirror, only to freak out because his armour is attatched by balljoints. Also jaller is a dog. Wacky hijinks ensue. 10/10 IGN Edited October 9, 2014 by Timeline15 Quote
DuckBricks Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Magical amnesia that changes lewa's elemental power, removes their mask powers, and give onua a sleeping disorder. Well played story team, well played... Wow, completely forgot about mask powers! Funny how The Mask of Creation is named after a pier and the Mask of Control presumably can control things but their powers were never mentioned... Maybe the Toa do have mask powers and they just didn't mention it yet... It would defeat the purpose of mask packs if they didn't have individual powers... I want Bio15 to be a completely different entity from the old story. No connection. ... Except maybe Vezon... At least even a cameo of Vezon encountering them in a mini episode... Quote
Quisoves Pugnat Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 This and what TTV have said. I fail to see why an alternate timeline is the Toa's likeliest point of origin. Surely either below Okoto (ala the original story) or above it (the two planetoids) are more probable? Quote
InfurnallDragon Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) Retcons can be OK, they just usually get a bad wrap from certain major changes like this that do in fact make no sense. A reboot is in essence one big, fat retcon. A lot of the things Greg added in were like retcons to cover up stuff (ie Macku+Hewki) and thats one reason to not like his on the fly writing. I wouldnt be suprised tho if more and more major plot twists like BIONICLE originally had start happening that expand the universe a lot. v----v exactly v----v Some things need to be retconned, like some retcons themselves. I hate it when a plot does a 180. Edited October 9, 2014 by InfurnallDragon Quote
Timeline15 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) That and certain retcons in old Bionicle were less than popular... "they're not capable of love" etc... Edited October 9, 2014 by Timeline15 Quote
Shakar Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Oh yeah, romance. Are we, like, allowed to ship characters now? Not shoehorning love into the story like some critics wrongly assume. Just avoid the "Matoran can't love, ever" that many people hated. Quote

Timeline15 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 So LoSS does have a large abdomen eh? Looks like it connect to the function somehow. A trigger or handle to activate the leg grabbing perhaps. Just avoid the "Matoran can't love, ever" that many people hated. I get the feeling that was a kneejerk reaction or Greg's part in the first place. Quote
