I AM THE DUCK MAN Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 http://imgur.com/a/Coy18#18 That is the head with no mask, and it actually looks more like the classic Miru than the Miru. lol. Not a bad thing, I like the new Miru. Quote
Mandate Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Not sure how credible the source is for plot info, but YAY PLOT INFO! The new storyline takes place on the mythical island of Okoto, where the forces of darkness are on the move and the evil Makuta is once again materializing. He is overcome by the desire for the three mythic masks that will cast the world into darkness - the Mask of Creation, the Mask of Control and the Mask of Ultimate Power. The desperate island inhabitants enlist six heroes - each masters of a sacred element - called the Toa- to help save their beloved island. The Toa must embark on a quest for Okoto’s ancient power masks that will allow them to unlock the full potential of their elemental powers. Only when the heroes are united, will they be able to battle the forces of evil, defeat Makuta and save Okoto. Aaand the bad news (sort of, not entirely): The LEGO Group will offer a variety of exciting new LEGO Bionicle sets from each of the different factions, ranging in price from $9.99 - $19.99 each: And details on LOSS! 70790 LEGO® BIONICLE Lord of Skull Spiders (Seen Above) Ages 7 - 14 145 pieces USD $14.99 / CAD $17.99 Patrol the entrance to the ancient city with the monstrous Lord of Skull Spiders! Protectors wanting to unlock the secrets of the city will have to get past this evil-eyed, 6-legged creature first. And the Lord of Skull Spiders has its own secret weapon – pull the rear lever to grip and crush anyone who gets too close! Combine with buildable LEGO® BIONICLE® Protector and Master sets for thrilling good vs. evil battles. There's details on the sets too, but I couldn't be bother to quote it. Something to do with the Skull Spiders stealing the masks off of people's faces. So I guess these really are Face Huggers SAUCE SOURCE: http://comicbook.com/2014/10/09/lego-bionicle-relaunch-announced-at-new-york-comic-con/ Thanks to BZPower for mentioning this. Quote
SirPuddings Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 When I buy Pohatu, I am going to use of these to connect his boomerangs into a proper hoverboard Quote
Kahi Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I'm 100% certain the Toa in this line will not be the same characters from the original sent through time shenanigans by the Vahi. Again, it seems more like TTV conflating the "we are appealing to old fans via easter eggs and references, and the line is a reboot in the way NuTrek was" with "they are connected". I and the other BZP staff took "like the new Star Trek" to mean more "so the old universe is unaffected and still exists, we didn't wipe it out to reboot the line a la DC 52." You could very well be right; I want to be clear on what happened with that. We were told by Jordan Paxton that the Toa had lost their memories, and we asked if they were the same original Toa from the first generation from Bionicle. Our response was if we remembered some important mask in 2003 and 2004, and then he also asked if we remembered when time travel was used. He then commented that the Vahi did seem like half a mask. So that's not any type of official confirmation that it's the original Toa at all, but it is kind of open to speculation; when I asked about Makuta and Ekimu he readily said that it's a "new universe", so I don't know why he would talk about the Vahi and Time Travel then instead of just saying it's a new universe as well? I will also admit that the term "soft reboot" wasn't used until I defined what "soft reboot" was and compared it to what the Star Trek movies did (and that was only because Jordan said he didn't "exactly want to call it a reboot" when we talked to him beforehand). So it could honestly be that "Star Trek" was given to all of the employees as the go-to comparison for the franchise reboot and he just agreed to it because of the name drop, and it just so happens that both the new Bionicle and Star Trek have time travel elements to them, but Bionicle is not connected to the old canon the same way Star Trek was. That can still be a very real possibility. However, he did say by his own volition that he did not want to exactly call it a reboot, and there was also his carefully worded sidestepping "Time Travel" answer to our "Are these the original Toa from 2001-2010" question, so he also could have understood perfectly what I was trying to say. Personally, Ikind of think he was hinting at it (even though I was personally hoping for a hard reboot). But that's the answers we were given; everyone's welcome to draw their own conclusions from what we have. (I wish I could have elaborated more about this on Twitter, but Twitter isn't really built for elaborating more. If I've said anything that people want clarification on or think is misleading or something let me know; I was waaaaay too excited and might have worded things with an extra meaning that I didn't mean to give) Quote
Mandate Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 So I just found out Tahu's swordboard/Kopaka's sheildskis ( ) are a redesign of some older BIONICLE parts, most notably used on Toa Lhikan and Kikanalo. Quote

Mandate Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 (edited) Good job, but wasn't it confirmed the gear box was made up of two new parts? I'm probably wrong, though. EDIT, I know LDD is hardly a good source for finding parts but I do believe the gear box sides feature a 3 long half-wide Technic beam that we've only seen 4-long variants of before, and LDD features no 3-long variant of it. Couldn't be bothered to check if they exist, it's 12 AM and I need sleep. Edited October 10, 2014 by JayWalker Quote

montgocloud Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 So Gali, Lewa, and Pohatu cost $15.99 and Tahu, Kopaka, and Onua cost $19.99? It looks like the resurrection of Bionicle is going to burn a hole through my wallet. Why must LEGO use my nostalgia against me? They say just the right things, add in just the right features... And now it looks like I'll be out $110 in a couple months. Quote
Leewan Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Neat! I got pretty close if not counting in that I missed the one hole on top. Yeah, it's easy to miss, I noticed it on Kopaka's top view, and then I saw on Pohatu's back view a 8t gear. Which means it's gonna be like that : Quote
Aanchir Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 The BIONICLE events yesterday were great! I don't have the patience to catch up with the nearly 20 pages of comments that this thread got yesterday. But suffice it to say I'm VERY pleased with what I saw! Which isn't to say I don't have any misgivings. I'm not totally thrilled that Tahu and Kopaka have just regular Tr. Light Blue eyes rather than Tr. Fluore. Blue. Anyway, I'd be happy to answer any questions! In the meantime, feel free to check my Flickr album! Sorry the pictures are out of order. Seems to be a problem with Flickr's mobile uploader. Quote
TheBrickPal Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 (edited) I've got a few questions for you, Aanchir! Mostly involving your hands-on time with the sets. 1.) Is there any way to make the new gear system "lock" to pose the Masters more easily? I would assume that you could also just take the gearbox off and snap the arms onto the CCBS torso, but I want to know if this method works for sure. 2.) Do the masks wobble on the new head with the clip/hinge attachment, or are they pretty firm on there? I hope you take the time to answer these. Edited October 10, 2014 by Puffle Pal26 Quote

The gear system seemed to be able to hold enough friction by itself to make posing relatively easy, 2. The masks themselves fit on the head piece pretty firmly. They don't swivel up or down; they just sit there. However, the hinge connection is somewhat loose, and the masks are very prone to falling off. Edited October 10, 2014 by Mesonak Quote
dviddy Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Thanks for the info, DV! Will BZP be putting up a full report of the panel? I'm interested to know what went down. Also, did you have the opportunity to mess with the parts? While I'm loving the new mask connection, I'm afraid it's going to be loose. Does it come off easily? Anyway, on the new story: While all the new names are going to take a while to get used to, this is a nice direction that Bionicle is taking! I have a ton of questions, but I'm sure they'll be answered in time. In particular, though: Are Ekium and Makuta supposed to be Protectors, or are they an entire different species entirely? Additionally, it's nice to see that they're keeping the 'Toa' term! Although it seems that a lot other terms are being dropped, like calling masks Kanohi and giving the masks individual names. BZP will indeed have full front-page articles, and we will have front page video reviews with the BIONICLE emloyees who were there. The new masks connection stays on, but hit the eyes and they fly off. Mask knocking off function! They also don't wobble, clearly designed to fit the new head perfectly. I would love to make some Star Wars jokes, but it would be too far on the verge of bullying. It was probably to test the new elements, see how the fanbase reacted to them. Which begs the question, do the new shooters work well? The new shooters work phenomenally. Like WOW. Better than any other BIONICLE shooter. However, be aware that the two parts put together to make the launcher do not come apart once put together. So from DV's pics, I can say that: 1)The new Hau and the Akaku are close to the original ones in size, but the new Pakari is pretty tiny. Then again the 2001 Pakari WAS pretty tall. 2)Onua's weapons are titanium metallic, not silver. So there's more variety than I thought: silver (Gali, Tahu, Lewa, Kopaka), titanium metallic (Onua, Pohatu, Lewa), gold (Tahu) and white (Kopaka). Reminds me of the Inika weapons which is, yes, a very good thing. 3)The fire/ice blade is freaking HUGE. Man I missed oversized weapons! All the weapons TLG sent us outside of Kopaka's swords were silver, which oddly included the boomerangs too. Which we learned yesterday come in gunmetal on the set, so I guess my eight of those are special! I was also at the store event last night so now I have all of the toa masks and most of the weapons and whatnot as well. And so many of the new blue shells. So pretty! Quote

Shakar Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 (edited) When I buy Pohatu, I am going to use of these http://cache.lego.co...5/2/4107084.jpg to connect his boomerangs into a proper hoverboard Nice idea! I think I'll do the same. The more I look at that weapon, the more I think it fits a Toa of Air more. But Onua will look ok with it too (yes, there I said it: I want to switch Onua's and Pohatu's builds and weapons around ). It's a single new part, and it will look like this : https://farm4.static...0f29ef5dd_n.jpghttps://farm4.static...f46a9a336_n.jpg Yes, I was bored last night. Oh, I can like that. It looks like it'd be easy to...remove the gears, rebuild the arms/shoulders contraption and cover the back with armour. And looks like there's a bin with lots of pieces so you can build your own character. I found these ones on 4chin: they're..ahem, a bit too creative, but they give us a neat look at the new pieces. -Toa Skull Spider and Gaardus reborn. The colour choices they made for the Skull Spiders are pretty unique: well, t. metallic (or is it silver? I still can't tell) is pretty common these days in constraction, but earth blue and that new pastel lime (Bricklink's Yellowish Green, not sure about the official name) certainly aren't. I hope we'll see these colours again in future sets! -Tahu x Gali x Kopaka lovechild. (TGKL) Still can't tell which hue of azure Gali uses (Alien Conquest azure of Thornraxx azure? Definitely not Mata blue though), but Kopaka's chest printing is in that same colour. Kopaka's blades confirmed to be white (wasted recolour IMO, ah well) and Pohatu's bones look very lime. TGKL uses plain white shoulder shells on its arms, so that odd techno-mystical design on Kopaka's thighs might be a sticker afterall (great news). And..bonus. He lives. Just saw your post Aanchir! That album is HUGE and it might make half of the post I was writing moot, so I guess I'll keep it in spoiler tags. First off, your Toa looks really cool! I'd love if you could clarify the more ambiguous colours: 1)Can you confirm that the Toa eyes and Pohatu's bones are Tr. Yellowish Green (or was it Greenish Yellow )? 2)Is Lewa Medium Green or Bright Green? And is his secondary colour classic yellow or "Keetorange"? 3)Is Gali Medium Azure or Dark Azure? Thanks in advance for your answers. All the weapons TLG sent us outside of Kopaka's swords were silver, which oddly included the boomerangs too. Which we learned yesterday come in gunmetal on the set, so I guess my eight of those are special! Nice, thanks! So only Pohatu's boomerangs are gunmetal while all the other grey weapons are silver? All the silver parts look so dark on Aanchir's Toa, guess it's the lightning. Edited October 10, 2014 by Shakar Quote
GK733 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I asked this before, but could one of you make a mock up of how the glatorian necks are atttached to the body of earth and fire protector? This is the closest thing I get. Quote

InfurnallDragon Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 (edited) [snip] That would be pretty amazing if he isnt just pulling your leg or trying to make the new BIONICLE sound amazing to someone he thinks is very skeptical of the new line. I'd be OK with this. I still love the look and the feel of what they have shown us so far already so I really dont need the connection outside headcanon. Every new piece in the pictures everyone has shared looks amazing, very much like something out of BIONCLE! Edited October 10, 2014 by InfurnallDragon Quote
