Sooooo jealous of you Aanchir, getting a clear Hau and a free Toa. What can you say about the relationships between the Protectors and the Toa?

I can also say for certain from this picture that Pohatu's trans parts are in the trans neon green.

In case he's not around he can correct me. The protectors are like the island guardians.

#Voriki2015

Just saw your post Aanchir! That album is HUGE and it might make half of the post I was writing moot, so I guess I'll keep it in spoiler tags. First off, your Toa looks really cool! I'd love if you could clarify the more ambiguous colours:

1)Can you confirm that the Toa eyes and Pohatu's bones are Tr. Yellowish Green (or was it Greenish Yellow :look:)?

2)Is Lewa Medium Green or Bright Green? And is his secondary colour classic yellow or "Keetorange"?

3)Is Gali Medium Azure or Dark Azure?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

1) The eyes of Gali, Pohatu, Lewa, and Onua and Pohatu's leg beams are all 49 Transparent Fluorescent Green (Bricklink's Trans-Neon Green), the same color as the promotional Kanohi Miru from 2001 and the classic eye color of Lewa and Nuhvok.

2) Lewa is 37 Bright Green, the same color as the Green Lantern constraction set, not 28 Dark Green (classic green/Mata green) or 119 Bright Yellowish Green (Bricklink's Lime). 29 Medium Green is much lighter and has long been discontinued. It's never been used in constraction sets. Oddly, Lewa's torso pattern DOES use Bright Yellowish Green and Bright Yellow instead of Bright Green and Flame Yellowish Orange.

3) Gali is Dark Azur. Kopaka's chest pattern also includes both Dark Azur and metallic blue printing.

Nice, thanks! So only Pohatu's boomerangs are gunmetal while all the other grey weapons are silver? All the silver parts look so dark on Aanchir's Toa, guess it's the lightning.

Lewa's axe blades are also Titanium Metallic (gunmetal). Kopaka's shield/ski pieces are white. Other than that, all the weapons that aren't obviously another color like Warm Gold are regular Silver Metallic.

I asked this before, but could one of you make a mock up of how the glatorian necks are atttached to the body of earth and fire protector?

This is the closest thing I get.

jTJBI3D.png?1

Unfortunately, the event was so hectic and I had so many things to photograph and people to talk to that I didn't get a good look at how the fire protector's back was built!

And, oh, it is a new shade of blue? I wasn't sure. (I'm sure it was established beforehand and I just didn't realize it til now.)

New in the sense that it hasn't been used for constraction before, but it's 321 Dark Azur (which first appeared in the ADU uniforms from the Alien Conquest theme from 2011).

Question: Are we going to see those chrome gold masks anytime soon? And any word on collectables for that matter?

They're not chrome gold, but actually made of gold! They aren't going to be in sets, obviously, but they ARE going to be distributed, and the LEGO representatives at the panel told us we're going to have to wait to find out how. Probably contest/sweepstakes prizes of some kind like the gold masks from 2001.

No word on collectible packs, unless somebody asked the LEGO employees privately after the panel was over.

The Protectors are the tribal leaders of Okoto and will basically be serving a similar function to the Turaga from 2001 (helping the Toa to understand their quest and sometimes joining them as they search for masks). It doesn't appear that they will be referred to as Turaga, even though the Toa will be referred to as Toa. They appear to be the same species as the regular villagers, but they certainly appear as though they might be. Also, for what it's worth, the Mask Makers Akemu (not sure about spelling) and Makuta were depicted in the "Legend of BIONICLE" video with a similar build to the Protectors.

Kinda an odd question, but do the masks fit into the axles on the side of a Glatorian head?

No. They fit on the brain attack head (albeit loosely), but not the Glatorian heads. Why? Because of the small rounded nubs at the end of the jaws by the axle holes. They protrude out, and they don't allow the masks to fit on.

Darn I was ninja'd. Tried sharing this on facebook to get CCBS haters to at least look at the final product before crying about Hero Factory taking over their childhoods. Pretty cool that they let them MoC whatever they wanted and take it home. I would have made CCBS Kongu and his brigade mount from MNoG (THE PURPLE WAS THERE FOR IT :cry_sad: )

Something about the stoutness of the Protectors' builds makes me want to MoC some Terraria builds or characters.

Boy, I sure do hope they tighten up those mask connections...

They are suppose to fall off, it's an action feature. (That I remember them saying) But they are way too easily knocked off.

But yeah they were very very loose.

Wait, did you get to keep the MOC made from the parts bins?

Yep, and the crazy (awesome  ) fans made more than one.

All of my envy... Hopefully, they'll run that kind of thing in Lego Stores....

I never understood why LEGO didn't keep tons of multicolor TECHNIC and CCBS pieces to begin with. There are definitely scores of people who would buy select parts by the buckets for MoC'ing. Certain colors are just too rare in sets that were already released (Blue).

Am I the only one who wants to MoC classic characters not in the reboot [yet]? Did anyone do any cool Inikas or Metrus? I think a dozen Jaller MoCs are the inevitable now...

I can just imagine Kongu's [gukko Kahu? this lawsuit thing just got really confusing], Ka, with two of those new launchers mounted on this back... and a saddle area for him to sit...

I might need more than one Lewa for the masks... and more than one PoE... and PoJ for the parts...

Yes indeed! Before I took the train to New York I joked with my brother about them having one of the sets for each panel attendee under our seats, Oprah-style. But I wasn't being the slightest bit serious. Letting us take home whatever parts we could build into a creation is arguably even better than anything I could have expected!

They've tried things like that. Most specifically, in April 2011 they had a section of the Pick-A-Brick wall filled with CCBS parts to promote the new building system and the Hero Recon Team service. But it wasn't a very successful promotion. Most LEGO store visitors had no idea what to do with these kinds of parts, since they were only used to basic stud-based LEGO building, and mostly with basic bricks at that. For as many Technic or constraction fans as there are, there are many, many more LEGO fans who have no experience whatsoever with these building styles and can't wrap their brains around them without first buying an actual set that demonstrates how they work.

Even AFOLs who prefer System often complain about how generic the Pick-A-Brick offerings are. But there's not much the LEGO Group can do about that. Basic bricks in basic colors are what the majority of LEGO store visitors understand and expect to see.

Then I hope they will at least release another parts bucket like the old one with the Gold Vahi in it.

Looking at the MOUP again: It kind of looks like the Avohkii in general shape. This could have some serious implications if the final product is modeled after it.

I am very excited for the new head pieces. That launcher bit is... weird, but I am glad they did make something very reminiscent of the old ones. I love how it looks like a robotic face rather than a skull with a hole for the mask (even though an extra option to hold old masks was something I really wanted). I like how comparable it is to the animation and its artstyle.

Cool to see more details in that video (although I really hope that the whole "hype train" and "Omega Tahu" stuff will just go away). I really like the back, and I'm glad to see the gear function works well while still allowing the arms to be poseable.

I'm a bit worried about the fact that the eye pieces seem to flip around inside the heads. Could anyone who had the chance to try them report their experiences?

I don't think we're likely to ever see a set like those parts buckets again. Those weren't just made as a treat for Bionicle fans—they were made because sets like the Rahkshi and Vahki had been overproduced and they needed to get rid of the overstock parts. Since then Lego has done a lot to eliminate that sort of waste, so the chances of a lovely CCBS bucket in our future are quite slim unless the new Bionicle is an abysmal failure.

They do exactly that. It's slightly odd when the mask is off (perhaps someone could figure out a part to wedge in and prevent that movement), but that is an intentional design decision—the eyes function as a lever that knocks the masks off if it's hit. It's basically designed to recreate the original 2001 mask function without the connection being so flimsy or perceived as a quality defect by buyers.

So do these have stickers or just printing on there chests...???

The patterns on Kopaka's legs and Onua's chest are stickers. Everything else is printed.
