Timeline15 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 yeah, I'm not thrilled about the wobbly eye piece. Hopefully I can think of a way to mod the head to be tighter fitting. Also, LoSS doesn't have a punching function, so the only ones who can knock of the toas' masks... are the other toa :/ #toacivilwar2015 Quote
Timeline15 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 (edited) That will only knock off a toa mask if you hold him right at their head height. The old rahi had things like punching fists are toa head level, so it made it look like they actually intended to hit the masks. The only reason the toa masks fall off when he uses his function is because they are incredibly loose. Edited October 10, 2014 by Timeline15 Quote
Mutant Orc Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 (edited) Well if a Toa gets Skull Spider-ed then it'd make sense for the others to need to be able to 'free' their comrade by removing the spider. Seemingly by whacking them in the head. Edited October 10, 2014 by Mutant Orc Quote

Seemingly by whacking them in the head. Although what would be a real callback is if Lewa got infected by one and Onua convicted him to take it out on his own... Quote
Aanchir Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I assume the outward physical appearance of the mask will remain the same but the side connectors will be modified and changed granting that the official images of these masks don't really show much of the side connections or back at all... The side connections are well-hidden on some of the masks. Pohatu's, for example, can only really be seen from behind. Same with Tahu's, mostly. So I don't think the position of the connection points or the shapes of the masks themselves would be radically redesigned at this stage. That will only knock off a toa mask if you hold him right at their head height. The old rahi had things like punching fists are toa head level, so it made it look like they actually intended to hit the masks. The only reason the toa masks fall off when he uses his function is because they are incredibly loose. They are not "incredibly loose". They can fall off accidentally... if you knock the eyepiece by mistake. Otherwise, from my experience, they attach about as securely as the Toa Mata masks if not more so. They wobble a bit, but don't fall off unless the eyepiece is struck or you're deliberately pushing/pulling them off. Quote
TheBrickPal Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I really like the function of the masks, but I really wish they stayed on easier. After watching TTV's video review of Tahu, my expectations are a tiny bit lower now. Sigh... Quote
Shakar Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Front said that the NYCC masks are prototypes though, and the connection is a lot tighter in the final sets. Not that happy about the wobbling eyepiece, but gotta keep the playability factor up I guess. Quote
Mandate Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Personally, it's not the wobbly eyepiece that I dislike, it's the gigantic stalk out the back. Quote
Gatanui Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Personally, it's not the wobbly eyepiece that I dislike, it's the gigantic stalk out the back. I can get over that. It was worse on the Toa Metru. -Gata Quote
Mandate Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I can get over that. It was worse on the Toa Metru. -Gata I've only owned Tahu Nuva (and what I presume are bits from Kopaka Nuva, Lewa's arm, a Nuva leg, and an Onua variant's torso), so I have no experience with the Metru brain stalks. Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Eyestalk probably won't wobble as much as the Inika pauldrons did. Quote
Dorek Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Huh, didn't realize they gave away so many of those NYCC Tahu masks. I'll wait for the price to drop a bit on eBay. Quote
Still Raindrop Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I'm really glad that (as far as I can tell) the masks aren't made from disks. I don't know why, but that always struck me as really weird. It seemed like an unnecessary extra step, and an excuse to make the disks more collectible. Quote
Nekchir Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 So I wasted 300$ on a mask that there's plenty of? Quote
Dorek Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Greg, on whether or not it's a continuation: I guess you will have to decide that for yourself as time goes on. But the difference with 2009 and 2015 is that BIONICLE was very much a known thing in 2009 ... in 2015, most kids in the target age -- 8-11 -- don't know what BIONICLE is, so tying it into old story wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. Not a particularly helpful answer... Quote
Jetrax99 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 So I wasted 300$ on a mask that there's plenty of? Yup. Somebody on TFW got it for $100, and I'm sure listings for less will pop up sooner or later. Quote
GK733 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Oh no The MLP fanfic-crossovers have already started on the Message Boards Nothing against MLP, just... eh... As a fan of the show it bothers me that other fans don't understand why people dislike what they do. Whetever it's just having a unicorn hat on or wings in a convention, or showing it down others throats in other forums. The world has norms, sure some of them should be breaked but because we have them you shouldn't think that all others broke them too. Also the LMB is full of kids, and the bionicle one is full off at least non-adults. Keep that in mind when reading the LMB. And just to keep this not derailing into the MLP thing again... Greg, on whether or not it's a continuation: Not a particularly helpful answer... Whetever it's a soft reboot or not I think Greg himself at this point doesn't have a clue. It's more up to the new story team. Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Oh no The MLP fanfic-crossovers have already started on the Message Boards Nothing against MLP, just... eh... Sadly, in today's net, Tahu will have been drawn as a deformed horse, and Gali will have been "gifted" with zeppelin-sized chesticles before the sets even hit shelves. Quote

It seemed like an unnecessary extra step, and an excuse to make the disks more collectible. I think a bigger point of it was to find a way to make Metru Nui's chief industry something that the whole BIONICLE universe could depend on (mask making) and then tie it in with the current sets. Oh no The MLP fanfic-crossovers have already started on the Message Boards Nothing against MLP, just... eh... I'm sure those have been around for years. Certainly they have been on other sites like deviantART. More people getting into BIONICLE means more people trying to connect it with their own perspectives and interests. If the new BIONICLE really takes off, be prepared to expect crossovers with everything imaginable, ESPECIALLY other popular franchises like MLP, Doctor Who, Sonic the Hedgehog, or Transformers. Quote

They seem pretty fragile with the mask being connected on the front and the eject button on the back. Is there any special way to grip the head to where the mask doesn't come off? Or is that even a problem? Quote
Aanchir Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 So how about when posing the head? They seem pretty fragile with the mask being connected on the front and the eject button on the back. Is there any special way to grip the head to where the mask doesn't come off? Or is that even a problem? Just holding the head by the sides of the mask tends to be effective, or by the front of the mask and the back of the neck when tilting it forward. One warning — if you're building a MOC with a gear function and are not careful how the shoulder armor is attached, you can accidentally make the character knock off his or her own mask. Doesn't seem like it should be a real problem with sets, though. Quote
Aanchir Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 (edited) Was at NYCC today and got this! AC Okay, so I was right about there being different posters each day! Yesterday it was Gali and Onua, today it's Pohatu and... don't know who the second poster is because the back is facing the camera. I think there's something ridiculously amazing (or amazingly ridiculous) about the fact that the LEGO Group actually registered the domain http://mylegobioniclephoto.com/.
