Mandate Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 For Bio15, the Gold Masks were described to allow the Toa to unlock their full potential. With no mention of what powers the Toa have to begin with, who knows what the "full potential" relates to. For that matter, there hasn't even been mention of mask powers yet (though the shielding for Kopaka seems intriguing). Golden elemental items used to unlock someone's potential? Boy, can't wait for Kopaka's revelation that he's really a robot and Tahu's that he not going to be Lewa Quote
Dorek Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Yes. Bionicle was an integral part in Lego itself; when you went to a Lego Store, it was Bionicle everywhere (At least, in early years). They had several movies, comic series, books, special events--Bionicle was part of Lego. Every LEGO line is a "part of LEGO", so that's a bit of an odd statement. Much of the huge presence had to do with the fact that BIONICLE, in large part, saved the company financially, especially in its first year. It might sound cynical to say, but the reasons you see for their making BIONICLE a part of your life have to do with some fantastic commercialism. When HF came, it, and thus CCBS, had very little publicity (after year one), few events, and a smaller fan following. Come on, in all honesty, how many kids in the toy aisle do you see buying HF? When you walk into a Lego Store, how big is the space allotted for HF? The answer to both: almost none. Patently untrue. 2010 had an enormous promotional push, with an insane amount of supplemental material, TV show, comics, the works. The following dwindled over the years, but that's not unusual; for a serialized line (despite HF's attempts to be more episodic), it's almost inevitable. I saw plenty of kids in my local LEGO store buying Hero Factory sets over the years; more often than not, they had put them together even BEFORE reaching their cars! What Lego is doing is genius: mix the most popular Lego theme, a massive and long-awaited return, special events, huge publicity, AND the new building style? Smart move on Lego's part. Now, if Lego made a Toa a supporting character in The Lego Movie 2, guess how much publicity CCBS would have? You can sell exclusive Bionicle villains to fight them, and include them with regular system sets. The problem is that, even with the huge promotional push BIONICLE is getting now (we're in the honeymoon of it) constraction overall is still niche. The sales potential is a lot greater with the types of things they did for the first movie. Maybe we'll see a BIONICLE world in the LEGO Movie 2, anything is possible. I certainly didn't expect the cameo it received before, even if it was a slick burn on the line overall. Without publicity, Bionicle II will go the same way as HF. Even with publicity, it will do the same. Hero Factory lasted for five years. That's pretty fantastic; no line can last forever. Using Hero Factory as a negative standard does the genre as a whole a disservice. If people hadn't responded to Hero Factory, BIONICLE 2 as we know it now might very well not have been a thing. Quote
Mandate Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 (edited) So someone on Reddit raise an interesting point about the Mask of Control, Skull Spiders, etc. What did Makuta do in the first year? He controlled the Rahi. What did the Bohrok use? Mind-controlling Kraata. So... I'm fairly certain now that there's at least going to be some kind of mind control going on. And given Lewa's love for risk-taking... *cue embarassing music* Edit: Also, every time I've seen the Dual Functions used in the concepts the Toa were wearing the golden Masks, especially on Tahu's box art. Maybe this is adrenaline mode? Edited October 12, 2014 by JayWalker Quote

Too grim for the target audience in general, methinks. I found this interesting: Patrol the entrance to the ancient city with the monstrous Lord of Skull Spiders!Protectors wanting to unlock the secrets of the city will have to get past this evil-eyed, 6-legged creature first. So he's a guardian, not a mustache-twirling conqueror. This makes make wonder if the Skull Spiders are akin to the Bohrok, helpful creations gone awry. The Skull Spider is trying to burst the bubbles of the Protectors’ underwater village. The crystal mine is under attack from the Skull Spider. Their purpose seems to be to destroy. Perhaps they are like the Bohrok and the Krana wrapped into one? Quote
Robert8 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 So this is it? This was the big revelation we were expecting in the NYCC?? Quote
Refy L.S. Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 So this is it? This was the big revelation we were expecting in the NYCC?? It would have been a lot bigger if we hadn't, you know, seen all the leaks that we weren't supposed to see. Quote
SirPuddings Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Idk what it is, but the Skull Spiders remind me so much of the Headcrabs from the Half-Life series. I'm definitely making a re-skin of the headcrab in garry's mod some time. Quote
bacem Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 (edited) Pohatu can... break and throw rocks? i wouldn't call that power. i can also do that too... to a certain extent... Edited October 12, 2014 by bacem Quote
Mandate Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Oh wow. Just noticed that Pohatu's pathetic piece count is STILL beaten by the Protector of Earth in the final images! Quote

Frozen Assasin Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Can somebody give me the description of the sets, please ? I can't find them. Quote
bacem Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 ok, found this at protector of jungle's description: Adjust the arms and legs to create fearsome battle poses. ...seriously? Quote
Shakar Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 (edited) ^ That is present in all Protectors' descriptions, the irony is that two of them lack elbow articulation. And, what is the general consensus about the Beast claws on Lewa's shoulders? I get that they're supposed to be pieces of armour (since they're silver like the other add-ons he's wearing), but they look weird to me. I mean, it's a unique look but I don't get what the designers were going for, and that's probably the reason I'm still not sure if I like them or not. Edited October 12, 2014 by Shakar Quote
Mandate Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 (edited) I assume they were going for a kind of "shirt cuff" look. Sort of like this: (yes, the Demopan was necessary) However, it could just be shoulder plating. Anyway, I'm actually planning on getting most if not all of these now. Seeing the animation style they're using really helped me understand the artstyle they were going for, and that improves the entire range a lot for me. Also the plot gimmicks are cool Unless retail situations improve regarding Constraction around here (at my local Target all we have is Crystal Beast, the weird red beast and a few shelfwarming Ogrums. Although other stores usually have most sets, they're not in the most convenient locations so I rarely go to them), I'll be buying most of these through LEGO's shop. Its a shame rather that he's got such a poor parts count. Still, its a good looking set so I cant moan about the design/parts too much at this point. Quote

I am also seeing the spiders a lot as headcrabs now that its been mentioned a few times (I tried to describe the Skull Spiders to my little brother and he immeditaely said "Like half-life headcrabs?" I could not contest this). This is especially since they dont fit over Tahu's head without the legs still extended (in TTVs video), just like headcrab zombies in Half Life The set description still suggests the LOSS is evil so I will go with that until it turns out Makuta was controlling him all along. The purpose of the spiders is also clearly to steal the masks. I don't think a good character would start hoarding all the masks for themselves. Edited October 12, 2014 by InfurnallDragon Quote
Pulp Detective Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Kinda disappointed that the only bad guy is a big spider,I mean it would be a lot cooler if we got 6 of those guys each with different color. Quote
Agent Fusion Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 I believe that the Skull Spiders are masks possessed by Makuta's spirit. LOSS is larger because it is Makuta's personal vessel for his consciousness. Quote

The Kumquat Alchemist Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 18 seems enough, they'll tally up to be fairly expensive anyways. My wallet's already aching over the first wave, so I'm just fine with only 5 Summer sets, though quite a few will likely be proper titans. Quote
