Toa of Gallifrey Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Yep, Onua can work Ho-Oh and Lugia. Quote
Dorek Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) People have reversed their opinion on Onua after seeing more than just single images? I am shocked. Not really :U I like Onua, and while I can't watch the video (vacation internet wheeee) this talk of weapon storage pleases me. Edited October 26, 2014 by Dorek Quote
Toa of Gallifrey Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 It's like with the Toa Metru where you can put his hammer (or the hammer's shaft if you're using shovel hands) on his back. It looks really nice, imo. Quote
TheOneVeyronian Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 I'm really glad to hear that Onua has a weapon storage system in place, especially since he has a multipurpose weapon that involves taking it apart. Far too many constraction figures have had zero ways to store weapons when they should have had some way, so if I wanted to display them without weapons (in fact, I often like to do this), I had to store the weapons elsewhere, and then I had the risk of losing them or using them in something else. With regards to the chestplate, I'm really happy it's in black, however since I am going to have to apply stickers to the Onua I build, I'm going to have to buy at least a second chestplate so I can have an unstickered version for MOC'ing as well. This coming year is getting more expensive by the minute for me... I haven't watched the video however so, as much as I'd like to, I can't really make any further comment (well, I have a fast internet, but it's download cap is set so low it kinda defeats the point of having fast internet in the first place ). Mesonak Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) Mesonak, if I were to get three Toa, which ones sound I get and why (definitely getting Onua)? Thanks for the videos! Well, it depends on what you're looking for in these sets. Having been in possession of all of these except for Tahu, I can say that literally all of them excel both as sets and as parts packs for MoCing purposes. There's not a single Toa that I don't like. Subjectively, I can tell you that my other two favorites aside from Onua are Lewa and Pohatu, but that's just personal preference. :D People have reversed their opinion on Onua after seeing more than just single images? I am shocked. Not really :U The more things change, the more they stay the same... Edited October 26, 2014 by Mesonak Quote
arc Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Onua review is up! just now saw this, and I can now say onua has officially won me over for favorite toa. Quote
Takanuinuva Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 To me the gold armor on Tahu, Kopaka and Onua stands out to much. I'll be changing it to silver once I get all 6 of the Toa. I'll have to keep Tahu and Kopaka's gold chests since they have there printing on them. Maybe when more sets are released we'll get white and red printed chests with ice and fire designs respectively Quote

I might try putting silver on onua to see how it looks, But I think with the chest stickers the gold will balance out just fine. Even more so with the gold pakari. Quote

Lots of the Protectors also include silver ones. The Protector of Ice and Protector of Earth are the only ones that don't (The former uses white ones and the latter doesn't use any at all). Quote

Not really :U I like Onua, and while I can't watch the video (vacation internet wheeee) this talk of weapon storage pleases me. I've been a fan of Onua since we saw the prelims; the preview only solidifies him as one of my favourites of the wave! His weapon storage is indeed very pleasing. I've always been a huge fan of the Metru's weapons storing on their backs. Quote
Dorek Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 The more things change, the more they stay the same... True facts, bro. True facts. I've been a fan of Onua since we saw the prelims; the preview only solidifies him as one of my favourites of the wave! His weapon storage is indeed very pleasing. I've always been a huge fan of the Metru's weapons storing on their backs. Haha, he was also my favorite! The weapon storage is especially appealing, but the overall design always attracted me. Looking forward to this for sure. Quote
Aanchir Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 What I like best about Onua is that even with their differing physiques and price points, he and Pohatu are still the shortest, just as they were in 2001–2002. Or at least, Onua can be, depending on how you have his neck joint oriented. If you have it vertically he's as tall as Gali or Lewa, but I like it better angled horizontally so he retains his characteristic hunched posture. Quote
Shakar Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Wait, there's a silver version of the gold add-on? I thought the only recolor was white. Gold, silver and white. 3 colours for a part in its debut wave isn't bad, but I hope we get it in more colours. I could really use it in black, titanium metallic and the like.As for Onua, his set doesn't quite fit how I see his character, but who cares- the model itself is great! I thought he looked too squat in the first images we got, but he's actually reasonably bulky and well proportioned. I can't wait to play with his parts and his build. I think my favourite part of the set are the shoulders (so massive, versatile and detailed), my I hope we get that piece in more colours because I love it. Yes, the Protectors have the same head piece as the Toa. I certainly hope it sticks around! It's a great design. I like the piece as well, it's a nice callback to the classic heads minus the awkward lips. I'm surprised it is silver, though- I think dark bley would've looked more generic and matched the gearbox and the other structural elements (like the friction joints). It still looks cool, though, so I can't complain much. I wonder if they'll release it in more colours like the classic Mata head- I always thought it was a nice thing that made characters outside the Mata/Nuva team more unique. Quote
DuckBricks Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Brown was always a "boring" color (I never had a problem with it, but I believe this is the reason it didn't sell well). I like this brown for Pohatu because it's not only more vibrant and interesting, but it still allows us to have a brown colored Pohatu. Hopefully brown's here to stay. I hated the switch to yellow/orange. Even Greg Farshtey joked about it twice in the books with Hewkii and Pohatu both complaining that no one noticed they weren't brown anymore... Quote
GK733 Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 In the NYCC presentation the background has some interesting concept, I took the background out of them by cropping them: http://i.imgur.com/CjxpE8m.png Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I actually prefer Keetorange and Orange to brown. It stands out more, it's more vibrant, and more useful. Quote

The latter reminds me of Matoro's Iden. Summer villains? And top and bottom middle.. is that a ... Vahi over a Hau?! Sure looks like one. There are a lot of really cool concepts here, thanks for sharing. I wonder if some are going to work their way into future sets, they don't look like they refer to the Toa or the Protectors. And those names, man. "Super Tahu"? "__tal Being"? What's that? Edited October 27, 2014 by Shakar Quote
Agent Fusion Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I would assume it says "Tahu+Elemental Being=Super Tahu", although I think that concept evolved into the Protector and Toa combiners. Quote

I have always thought that the sets aren't the actual form of the characters. The fact that designers draw it in this style proves it. This is also a reason why set accurate characters in future films hopefully will not be the thing. Quote

I wonder if some are going to work their way into future sets, they don't look like they refer to the Toa or the Protectors. They do. Most of these pictures seem to be just concepts (albeit very EARLY concepts) for Tahu's mask and head and the Skull Spiders. The image on the top left is definitely nothing more than a concept for what a maskless head might look like. Not sure what the "Elemental Being" is supposed to be, but Agent Fusion could be on the right track. Or it could be a concept that was completely abandoned. No telling. Edited October 27, 2014 by Aanchir Quote
Shakar Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Yeah, it has to be "Elemental Being". And it's probably just a Protector concept given the combination element. Still, I'm puzzled at how unmistakably evil that face looks. Probably a dropped concept (Element Lords?). Aw, got my hopes up for nothing. Those two would've been amazing villains. Quote
Agent Fusion Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Wait, I just realised something. The Tahu mask from the top row is pointing towards the Elemental Being, making the equation "Tahu Mask+Elemental Being=Super Tahu. Again, this may have evolved into the Protector concept, or it may be a plot point in the future. Quote
Shakar Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Well yes, and it's odd that they refer to Tahu's mask and not Tahu himself. It's as if that character was meant to steal the mask.. but why would an obviously evil character turn into a "Super" Toa when donning the mask? This concept is just really, really weird- if has been dropped, it's a pity because I liked those two guys a lot. In any case, I have no idea how to explain it. Quote
