Well yes, and it's odd that they refer to Tahu's mask and not Tahu himself. It's as if that character was meant to steal the mask.. but why would an obviously evil character turn into a "Super" Toa when donning the mask? This concept is just really, really weird- if has been dropped, it's a pity because I liked those two guys a lot. In any case, I have no idea how to explain it.

Maybe the elemental being ISN'T supposed to be evil. I mean, what makes it seem obviously evil to you? The fact that its eyes are pointed downward angrily? That's not a lot to draw conclusions from. When I look at it, I think dangerous, frightening, and somewhat monstrous, but not necessarily evil. The expression reminds me of how mythical creatures like dragons and qilin often look in Chinese art and sculpture.

In any case, I don't see much to be gained by going down this avenue of speculation, as there's no telling if it even has any bearing on the final sets or story. These are clearly very early concepts, and certainly not refined to a point that they'd be remotely feasible in sets. So whether the "elemental being" concept will be maintained in any way or not, there's no reason to think it'd still end up looking like this, any more than Tahu's mask and head still look like they do in those concepts.

Y'know what I see?

Concept art. Awesome concept art at that. As said before, it's probably super old, so no real conclusions can be drawn. I'd imagine Elemental Being would later evolve into the Protectors we have now, though.

Regardless, I always get a Bay Transformers vibe off of those concepts. This is a good thing.

Good that their bringing bionicle back, I personally don't like the new style, it's a little too similar to hero factory, (which I never cared for) but I will still keep up with the story.

It's refreshing to hear someone praise the bay transformers, I've always though of onua as being like Ironhide.

They're not going to flip the design for Bionicle, in just one year so why do you expect them too? Besides, it has be said MANY times before on here that CCBS is here to stay.

I'm finding it very odd how much they're trying to... transition... this coming year. Specialized parts, land ho! That's not to say that the new parts are overly specialized, but it's very strange that after seeing so many parts for the most blatantly generic styles suddenly get highly detailed parts, even if they have horrid implementation (Looking at you, Lewa. That secondary function could have looked so much better by just flipping around. Fortunately, LEGO isn't Hasbro or Mattel, so it's not a giant issue). It's even weirder how everyone was whining about Technic implementation when we were actually getting it (as I have so learned now) and then praising LEGO for their glorious work slapping... it... on... their... backs... *sigh*

But really though, if we see something like an improved version of the Metru torso with actual posability on the shoulders and keeping the visible gears, I would be ecstatic. Visible gears looked so amazing.

I'm sure we've had specialized parts before. This year's Chima parts are specialized (torso armour, wings). Some HF weapons were quite specialized too (I'm thinking of this, or the Ordeal of Fire villains' flame part (which reminds me how I love Jetbug)).

So, besides that and the fact that LOSS is guarding an ancient city, that's all we know?

in fact, I'm not sure if we even now that.

We also know of at least two large craters (one oceanic and one volcanic) from the product descriptions (Gali's and Tahu's respectively.) Given that Ekimu was shown dormant in a crater, I imagine that they are of some significance (the most obvious explanation being that they are the respective resting places of the two brothers.)

Concept art for the finalized Tahu Boxart called them mask snatchers or something like that. It's my theory that they scattered the MoCr, the MoCo, and the MouP and are probably trying to steal more masks. Probably for some power hungry bad guy that would try controlling all the elements or something.

The LOSS' color scheme matches Makuta's when he donned the MouP, but if he is the maze keeper of an ancient city that would mean he was possessed or controlled since his original purpose probably wasn't to serve a big bad.

If LOSS turns out to be Makuta...... . I want the "Makuta controls beasts from behind the scenes, then reveals himself", not "It's him." And really, I think that already showing him was a huge blow to his mystique.

Did they show Mata Nui in 2001? No. Did they show Makuta in 2001? No. And these characters felt mysterious. Now, we know both of their histories, who they are, and what they look like, and honestly, Bionicle II gets points deducted for that.

What are they doing right? Everything else.

They were planning to show Mata Nui in '01 before they realized BIONICLE was a success. Then they pushed it so far back that they had two sets of 3-year plot arcs of Mata Nui dying and needing to be revived, before changing it into a three year plot where the Mask of Life is a bigger jerk AND villain than Makuta himself. (and if I recall correctly, wasn't Makuta shown in '01 in MNOG?)

Oh dang, didn't know Pohatu's boomerangs could bend. That really hyped me up for his set now.

Surprised we haven't seen much of LoSS nor the Protectors yet, compared to the Masters that is.
