TheBrickPal Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 A curious question indeed Oh by the way on the subject of reviews, All of mine are going to be done on a black backdrop this time around- It's way easier for editing and will be more forgiving with all of the trans colors on these sets. Oh man, the Protectors are beautiful. Probably the best small constraction sets we've ever gotten! Quote
VBBN Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Also, in VBBN's picture, the Stone and Jungle Protector are hanging out in the background. It's blurry, but I can imagine the Protectors are going to look great displayed together as a team. I imagine that too. (I'm using my phone camera for these random pics btw, don't complain about the graininess I know they look terrible :P ) Also, officially my favorite set of the wave I never realized that her feet could connect together to make a mermaid fin As for when reviews will begin, I have planned a selection of characters to be reviewed by Sunday night- Gali, Protector of Stone, and LoSS. The rest will come after that of course, but that's the immediate plans Quote
Mandate Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 (edited) Elbows are knees for your arms :P Music is vision for your eyes :P I imagine that too. That's it VBBN. I'm buying all of these set. Thanks a lot, bai NINJAGO But anyway, WHOA, Gali really does look female for once! The Protector masks though... curved upward shape... transparent at the top... face underneath... aha! I knew it! The Protectors are the Bohrok! Edited November 12, 2014 by JayWalker Quote
Agent Fusion Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 (edited) Speaking of that, does anyone else think that the protector mask also resembles gelu's mask? Or is that just me? I see what you mean. VBBN, on 12 November 2014 - 09:34 PM, said: I imagine that too. Step aside Chronicler's Company, there's a new gang in town. Edited November 12, 2014 by Agent Fusion Quote
arc Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 I'm probably just seeing things, but is the fire protectors torso gunmetal? And the protectors look great together! (But the lack of LoSS pics is killing me. I hope the review comes soon) Quote
Lyichir Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 I never realized that her feet could connect together to make a mermaid fin Yeah, that occurred to me when I was trying to put the sets together on LDD (and realized that the set itself only needed ONE pair of connectors attached to the flippers, unless there was another function). It's odd that that feature isn't displayed more prominently in the set images or instructions... perhaps the set was designed to be able to do that, but they decided that function didn't make sense for the story, and thus left it out of promotional images? I guess we'll see. I think she looks fantastic that way, myself. Quote
Grima Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 How do PoE's shoulders attach? they don't look like they attach the same way as PoF's Quote

They use this part with the Hordika necks. Edit: Ha ha! Brickset spelt triangle wrong! Edited November 12, 2014 by JayWalker Quote

Aanchir Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 (edited) How do PoE's shoulders attach? they don't look like they attach the same way as PoF's Nope. They attach sort of like Kiina's, but with the shoulder joints pointing up instead of to the sides. Edit: Ha ha! Brickset spelt triangle wrong! Brickset gets their parts data directly from The LEGO Group's Customer Service website, so they're not responsible for spelling mistakes in part names or errors in part thumbnails. Agent Fusion Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 (edited) I'm aware that a review is on the way, but could you please summarise your thoughts on LOSS, VBBN? Edited November 12, 2014 by Agent Fusion Quote
Kalhiki Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Oh man. The Protector group shot is adorable. Agreed with Agent Fusion: step aside Chronicler's Company. Step aside. I think the reason they look so good is because of the colors. They're all so bright. The change to lighter colors for the Jungle, Stone and Water figures really makes them stand out. And the inclusion of purple for Earth sets adds a wonderful flare of color. Yeah. the Protectors are better than the Toa. Hands down. Quote
VBBN Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 I'm aware that a review is on the way, but could you please summarise your thoughts on LOSS, VBBN? Fun to build, and I guess the playability of the set is nice (all six legs go downward do he can grab onto something below him) But as a set it's very meh. It's not as bad looking as I thought it would be, but it has virtually no poseability, all you get is the six ball jointed legs, and even they it's a battle to keep him balanced, if you want to raise one leg you've got to position all of the rest to make sure he doesn't fall down. He is my least favorite set of the wave, but I don't know if it's a fair comparison because he is almost in a completely different league. He's much more similar to the 2001 Rahi than anything we've seen recently. Quote

The lack of poseability could be a problem, as I intend to use LOSS in an animation series, but it's nothing modding can't fix, with a Tunneler Beast style torso. How does the function work? I would expect rubber bands to be used, but I'm not the one with the sets. Edited November 12, 2014 by Agent Fusion Quote
Rayskull Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 (edited) Well you aren't wrong. I just noticed that the Protector of Earth has the optimum shoulder placement, allowing for elbow implementation without making other adjustments. I also like the trans-purple bones with knee and elbow locks... I don't think we have that piece in other transparent colors. ....have you experimented with putting a gear box on a protector? These little guys are Awesome! Edited November 12, 2014 by Rayskull Quote

arc Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 He's much more similar to the 2001 Rahi than anything we've seen recently. that's very much ok by me, in fact, it's something I've wanted for a while now. LoSS is at the top of the list for me, but I can definitely understand why others may not care for it very much. And thanks for the pic! Man am I looking forward to that review... Quote
gedren_y Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 All this, and I have yet been able to get the Protector of Ice review video to load! Thanks for the images. Quote
Kalhiki Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 I don't know what to think of LOSS. The 2001 Rahi comparison is nice to see, but a lack of pose-ability is sad. I guess I'll wait to see if its function is its saving grace. I have a lot of fun messing around with functions, so I can see how I'd still be able to find enjoyment in the set. 'Least the face printing doesn't look too bad. Thanks VBBN for all the wonderful pictures of the sets! Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Disappointed with LoSS. Yeah, the callback to the 01 Rahi is nice, but the Toa manage to keep the gears and dual-function weapons of their earlier incarnations, while also having the articulation of more recent sets. Pohatu in particular surpasses them, with his balljointed elbows. Not to mention, the awkwardness of the 01 Rahi was due to their use as part of the "Function Game" at the time, whereas LoSS, lacking a full Skull Spider, or a giant face to latch onto, is the only set that can't really do much there. I know this might sound a little cliche, but do you perhaps think they should've gone for a humanoid torso mounted on an arachnid body, with the gold Skull Spider mask for his face? Quote
Toa of Gallifrey Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 I dunno, if LOSS is a generic boss mook then I'm happy with its design. If it's gonna be the sub-big bad (assuming the MoUP will be the big bad) this year then it could've had a beefier design. Quote
Shakar Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 (edited) I love how the Protectors look (well, minus the lack of elbows)! At first, I saw them as mere parts packs, but they've grown on me a lot, so I think I'll keep 2-3 built. Fire P's torso build is pretty clever, though Earth P's seems like it'd better since it leaves room to build some back armouring. Love the masks, most weapons look a little lame to me but they do they do feaure some nice pieces anyway. Stone P's Pyrox flames are tr. lime and tr. clear! Pretty versatile. LoSS is - you guessed it - still my least favourite set. He's just so... gimmicky. Poseability aside, I think one of my issues is his looks- he looks like a generic spider monster, not like a super-Skull Spider. He has nothing in common with the 5 piece Spiders. I'm not even interested in his parts, aside from the gold mask and the printed chest. So yeah, not buying him, better buy another Onya instead. I dunno, if LOSS is a generic boss mook then I'm happy with its design. If it's gonna be the sub-big bad (assuming the MoUP will be the big bad) this year then it could've had a beefier design. Remember, there's still the Summer wave we have to see. I doubt they're going to make the year's main villain into a mid size set. Edited November 12, 2014 by Shakar Quote
