Takanuinuva Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Its surprising how the brain attack torso piece gives Gali's waist a feminine shape without making her look too skinny either. Also the mix of Silver and Gunmetal doesn't look bad either. Quote
SoupOrFishOil Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Gali looks amazing! Much better than I thought, and I already liked her a lot from the other images. I think that the shoulder pads help her look more effeminate when positioned correctly because they make her shoulders look slimmer. Her colors are lovely and the mask looks great in these photos. I can't wait for her review! Quote
Kamen Rider Kiva Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) Gali looks gorgeous! She's definitely gonna be my must-have of the new Toa! EDIT: Can you reverse the gearbox to give Pohatu his '01 kicking function? Edited November 14, 2014 by Kamen Rider Kiva Quote
Grima Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Gali looks gorgeous! She's definitely gonna be my must-have of the new Toa! EDIT: Can you reverse the gearbox to give Pohatu his '01 kicking function? not without looking ridiculous, no. trust me, i tried using an LDD mockup. it sets the hips too far back. Quote
TheDesuComplex Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Gali looks gorgeous! She's definitely gonna be my must-have of the new Toa! EDIT: Can you reverse the gearbox to give Pohatu his '01 kicking function? I've seen a few attempts at it, and while you can do it doesn't mean you should. The wideness looks quite odd to me, and the hips are really far back. Darn, ninja'd by Grima. Quote
Kamen Rider Kiva Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Oh well, that sucks. :P At least he finally gets some specifically devoted weapons. XD Quote
bacem Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 for those of you who's still interested for LOSS, BZpower already have a review up: Quote
Rayskull Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) Its exactly what I expected from that set. I do like that they used gears in the grabbing mechanism... I'm not impressed with the chest face, I think the chest face takes away from it...not that I have a better idea for how to design his head. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2848/11925697874_5fd0a7b8e0_c.jpg Oops a spidery head has been executed better this year... Would have cost a bit more though. Edited November 14, 2014 by Rayskull Quote
Leewan Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) Yup, Pohatu looks terrible with his reversed gearbox : I myself like the LoSS. It looks like an awesome parts pack, and the building looks interesting enough to me. Edited November 14, 2014 by Leewan Quote

You can upgrade Pohatu from his not-fat Phantoka edition to... fat with a big rear edition! Don't delay, buy today! Quote

You are stranded in Okoto, and must defend the Protectors from the Skull Spiders. I'm just joking... Quote

It looks like an awesome parts pack, and the building looks interesting enough to me. Based on my own LDD sketches (and messin' around with the physical parts Aanchir and I got at NYCC), a figure like that with a gear function for the legs looks better if you add ANOTHER gearbox behind the first one, for his arms. Still pretty portly, but then again the classic Pohatu was as well, and by adding a gearbox for the arms, he's less bottom-heavy and his hips don't stick out behind his shoulders. Kalhiki Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Gah! BZP's LOSS review didn't help at all! I'm still on the fence. I'm going to get him if just for completionist's sake, but I don't know how much I'll like him. The function looks super addicting, and all around the figure looks good, but the lack of pose-ability is off-putting. I may end up heavily modding the figure, which I hardly ever do. I just have some good ideas to make him better. Giving him two back legs that are pose-able and two front legs that retain the grabby function ought to do the trick. Quote
Aethersprite Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Yup, LOSS is horrible. A pity, given how excellent the other sets are. I've always had the impression that the Protectors of Jungle and Stone are carbon copies of each other (barring their weapons) in terms of bones and armour placement. Isn't this the case? Quote

He looks pretty cool, but not exactly what I was hoping for...I guess we can cut 'em some slack, due to the fact that it's only the first wave. Quote
arc Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Despite some flaws pointed out in the review, I'm still looking forward to LoSS. See, this is where I miss being able to attach armor via technic, it would have made the legs better a lot easier. Oh well, that's what mods are for. Speaking of mods, the way the legs are attached should make it easy for me to attach a 4th pair of legs which I might bl parts for. The set hasn't LOSS me yet! (I'm sorry, that was terrible...) Quote
Aanchir Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 I'm definitely also disappointed that Lord of Skull Spiders' function doesn't work better, but to be honest I'm not as bothered by his looks as a lot of other people seem to be. I'm just fine with the printed face (wondering if the eyes are fluorescent, though — that'd be the icing on the cake!), and even if the function doesn't grab things too well, it certainly looks great in motion. The shape of his body also doesn't bother me. As far as the lack of posability is concerned, I can see why some people might be disappointed, but to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if the set designers made the right call in that regard. A two-legged or four-legged figure with full articulation is one thing — a figure with six or eight fully-articulated legs can be extremely frustrating to pose, especially if the legs get knocked out of position every time you use the integrated function. I don't know if I'll be getting Lord of Skull Spiders, and even if I do he probably won't be a day one purchase. But I do find it a bit regrettable that reactions have been so lukewarm for what is surely one of the most imaginative sets of the year on a structural level. Function-wise, I know it certainly beats anything I could have designed. I look forward to getting more story info on the Lord of Skull Spiders and the Protectors. Something my brother suggested to me is that maybe the golden mask in Lord of Skull Spiders might not even be a real mask, but rather a lure to draw in unsuspecting villagers and steal their masks. It's certainly a good lure to convince me to buy LOSS. Having seen pictures of the golden Skull Spider up close, just the mask and LOSS's many technic components justify the purchase, even if LOSS is lackluster in my eyes. VBBN Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 The golden mask is definitely very cool (as if you couldn't tell I like it, well) a bit annoying that it didn't comewith some legs, but I plan to customize the legs of my spiders a bit to get some variety. BZPs review hit the nail spot on, its pretty much what I plan to say in my review. His overall look isn't that bad in hand, but all things considered, it's still pretty terrible. Personally what I feel doesn't help, is that large spiders are really boring enemies. They just don't pose off well against large bipedal toa, this seems more like a fight for the protectors than anything. Quote
Dorek Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 I'll still give LOSS a shot. Could be one of those things everybody loathes but that I end up loving (see: Icarax). Quote
Kalhiki Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 I'll still give LOSS a shot. Could be one of those things everybody loathes but that I end up loving (see: Icarax). Icarax? I love Icarax. My favorite Bionicle set as a matter of fact. Anywho, if I hate LOSS, I'm pretty sure the function will be a redeeming factor. Looks way too addicting for its own good. Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Yeah, I don't think mid-sized spiders are good villain sets. Minions, yes, but villains, not so much. I mean, you kinda want something the size of Shelob or Aragog if you're going for that role. Quote
GK733 Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) As said with more articulation LOSS would had been hard to get stand up. Same thing they did did with Pewku. My main problem with LOSS is that the back of spider is not that arachnoid, side covering is nearly no existent and when looken from behind it looks horrendously bad and uncovered especially due to the last legs being just straight and not towards the back. I'm also bothered by the fact that LOSS has six legs, not four like the other spiders or 8 like real spiders. It just makes it look a completetely other species from the skull spiders. There's also no conflict in the set. So, how this would have been an amazing set. -Head would had been buildable, not just a printed chest (I don't hate it but it's not that good). -A protector included with less armor than most, showing it just as a normal guy. -Protector's stud launcher in it's mouth to spit poison. -More back cover -25$ or more depending if the protector is included or not Keep the color scheme though, it's awesome and no more articulation as it would break the function.
