His is my favourite actually, because his appearance is a bit altered at least. The others are just using their Protector counterparts' weapons. That said, I still think these are all pretty lazy (I can understand why they made them like this, doesn't mean I have to like it), I hope we get real combo models sooner or later.

Actually, Onua's is hardly the only one that alters his appearance. Lewa's "Powered Up" form involves adding the Protector of Jungle's shoulder and torso armor to his shoulders and the vines from the Protector of Jungle's feet to his feet (although the latter is not shown in the images on the boxes or instruction manuals). Also, Gali's "Powered Up" form involves the shells on her upper arms being replaced with the turbines from the Protector of Water, and Pohatu's "Powered Up" form involves placing the shoulder armor from the Protector of Stone on his lower right arm (kind of unusual, to be honest).

Also, the "Powered Up" forms for Gali, Kopaka, and Pohatu all involve actually combining their weapons with those of the Protectors, not just holding them both as separate weapons. And interestingly, in the actual instructions, Pohatu wears his Jeterangs differently in "Powered Up" form than in regular Adrenalin Mode. In Adrenalin Mode, both halves of the boomerang are angled backward, whereas in his "Powered Up" form, the boomerang is straightened out front-to-back (with the glowy Bohrok eyes facing backward and the exposed axle of the other half facing forward).

My favorite of the "Powered Up" forms is definitely Gali's, which doesn't require her to discard much of her own equipment and combines her shark fins with the Protector of Water's elemental torpedo blaster to great effect.

Indeed, Gali's "Powered Up" form is the best. I think the way they used the weapon from the protector with her weapons just works better. In fact, it reminds me a tiny bit of Lesovik (I think that's his name) from 07. It reminds me of something similar to that effect. I just like the idea behind it.

Not a fan of the... What are we calling them? Powered Up Modes? I mean, I get what they're going for, but it's just not for me. Instead of wasting my time swapping weapons, I'll be focusing on creating Toa Kaita.

Yep, right now "Powered Up" modes is the most official term we have for these modes — The instruction manuals for the sets literally use the term "Power Up" (in multiple languages) to describe the process of combining the sets in this way.

There might still be other official combi models, even fusions, but if there are they haven't been revealed yet.

My original idea was that Onua, considering he's the strong one, would simply be able to pick up the Protector of Earth like a weapon. I'm probably gonna do that with mine because it sounds so silly and fun.

Why not just have the PoE sit on Onua's shoulders similar to how the Kobold Engineer in Battleforge used to sit on the ogre's:

(This is just what I though of when I tried to imagine including PoE's gun without taking him apart)

The current "combiner models" are pretty poor IMO. They will more than likely serve some plot significance at least.

ON the other hand, Red looks kinda bad as the top colour, compared to it's less bright and eye-catching fellows. You'd better off with PoE, PoW, or PoI.

Also, random thought about the whole "bows look like guns with bow-bits" thing: Did everyone forget Furno 3.0?

Well, Onepu's purple mask WAS used for the original Matoran Nui, so there would be precedent for using the Protector of Earth's mask on a fusion of all six Protectors.

I was thinking the same, but you gotta remember: Onepu's mask was completely purple while PoE's mask is dominantly black. Not nearly as eyecatching (yeah, it does have trans purple blend, but the face is black, and that's what you'll be seeing the most).

Personally, for a Protector Nui, I'd say go with Jungle. It's vibrant and has a lovely blend.

I just realized Gali has those silver metallic shells that I must have.

Has anyone noticed that no one on Brick Link carries large quantities of Hero Factory bones?

No one has yet purchased any of these sets yet right?

What are you talking about? I've already purchased ALL of the sets!*

^It better not be POF. I'm sick of Fire being the dominant element.

The mask of the combination should be something that is common with at least one color... and not by a surprise. It should be black.

Not sure quite what you're referring to. The only Silver Metallic shell she has is her torso shell. The shells on her lower arms and lower legs are Titanium Metallic. Unless you're talking about the piston shell detail on her shoulders, which is also included in Pohatu, Lewa, and several of the Protectors.

And yes, I've noticed the dearth of Hero Factory parts on Bricklink. It's frustrating sometimes.

What metallic is protector of ice's feet?

Ah I see now Gali is using silver for her torso plate and new bionicle armor...the rest is titanium. :/ I guess it looks fitting on her. The protector feet are usually silver I take it. Sometimes hard to see the difference in photos.

edit: Bee-Zee-Power's Gali review is up:

Ooh! They lined up all the pieces! Thats a lot more trans [blue Color] than I thought there would be!

Theres a lot of even number pairings too for a pretty good symmetry in the set and in any MoCing projects.

This is probably off topic, but I've been pre-mod-ing and I managed to get a shell on the back of the protector of fire shoulder build :D

protector_of_ice.jpg

Obviously missing new bionicle pieces not yet in LDD

You would need pin 11214 for the rear shell

Interesting concept, but not really accurate to the Fire Protector. The Fire Protector's front shell is snapped directly to his torso beam, not pressed out like the front shells on most of the other Protectors.

True, but to be honest, I don't think the Fire Protector and Earth Protector need back armor as badly as many of the others do. I don't feel like the sole function of back armor is to cover up the back of a model. More important, I think, is that it adds volume to the back of a model. And the Protector of Fire and the Protector of Earth already both have that taken care of, on account of the way their shoulders are built (and also the way that the front shell of the Protector of Fire already extends back further than the back of the torso beam). I'm sure a back armor solution for the Protector of Fire exists, but it seems to me like it'd be more trouble than it's worth.

Yeah, instead of back armour I'd really have preferred elbows. The arms on the PoF are miserable. I can't get over how bad they look in person.
