Not sure what you guys will think about this idea, but here we go.

I was slightly disheartened to learn we wouldn't be getting any villager sets and then I had this story idea. The protectors have kids and pass the title of protector along with their mask down to their offspring, that much we pretty much know. I had this idea where the protectors of current(the ones we get as sets) are soon ready to retire/die/whatever they do. But at this moment they dont feel like the "kids"(I say kids when they would probably be just arriving into adult hood) arnt ready for the responsibility(think chroniclers company), so they give them to the Toa to train under their wing.

I plan to buy an extra set of protectors and make a few changes to them

First things first get rid of all translucent bone pieces to reinforce these guys have no form of elemental power. Aside from altering their builds a tad, I will be removing all armour(not the shells, just the add ons) and weapons.

Then I will change the colours around a bit, using shells and bone peices. Im trying to get as close to the 01 Tohunga as I possibly can. Colour schemes are as follows:

Fire: Yellow and Red

Water: Dark Azure and Mata Blue

Jungle: Bright Green and Teal

Ice: White and Dark Azure

Earth: Black and Purple

Stone: Undecided

What do you guys think?

Since the mask is transparent that kinda requires something on the armor be transparent just for balance sake.

I'm going to make a 1-3 protector heroes that won't be depending on Toa for saving their butts. Might make a unmasked villager.

Wish they would release them already, worried that if they don't come out before Christmas that it may be weeks after Christmas. (Certainly if we were talking about Hasbro here)

Lego isn't Hasbro. :P

They're always good with getting their stuff out on time, so I wouldn't worry about needing to wait beyond the street date (Jan 1st).

Although I wouldn't mind a constraction theme dedicated entirely to combining figures...

I mean, stores will take some time to recover following the frenzy that is last-minute Christmas shopping. Usually stores have recovered by the first, but not always.

Yeah the masks are what they are. In an ideal world I could get plain colours of the masks but I shouldnt think the trans top should hurt the colour scheme too badly

"Street dates" aren't a "put sock out on the floor on ___," they are "don't put them out until at least ____" If the street date was before christmas, you could expect stores to really hammer the sets out as soon as they could, but since it falls on Jan. 1st, most stores will likely try to get rid of the old stuff before bringing in the new. At least around here that's the case.

So now that the reviews are all up, what would you say is your favorite and least favorite sets, VBBN? Asking just out of curiosity.

In terms of Toa, Gali and Tahu take the top spots. For Protectors, Earth and Stone. Overall, from all 13 sets, Gali remains to be my favorite.

Now, of course, we're all gonna be disappointed when you don't have the summer set reviews up in April =P.

We can only hope

Hey, VBBN. Do you have plans to create some Toa Kaita and Protector Kaita combo models?

I do indeed plan to do that.

I had roughly the same idea (my dream would be building the future Inika/Mahri), the masks are a big problem though. I know we can use the Protector masks (I agree, their secondary colours on top don't clash that much), but the idea of all villagers having the same mask (according to the animated episodes, ALL "Okotoan" wear the same mask) is still.. odd to me. So, say I wanted all Matoran- if we can call the Toa Masters, might as well refer to the Protectors as such, possible reproduction ability notwithstanding- to wear unique masks: 9 times out of 10 (yes, a statistic I made up on the spot) I'm going to face a lot of trouble. I mean, we don't have a yellow "Mask of Fire" or a sand blue/insert a similar shade here "Mask of Ice".

I still want to try out something, though, if only for experimentation. Tahu's gold mask might look good for a Jaller MOC (yellow and gold were often seen as interchangeable in G1- see Lhikan, Glatorian Mata Nui, etc..), and, since Dark Azure is the closest thing we have to teal, a mix between PoJ's and PoW's pieces might create a decent Kongu. But I'm kinda lost about the others. As much as I like their masks, I wish the Protector sets were remakes/homages of the 01 Mctoran with the same level of faithfulness as the Masters to the 01 Toa Mata (is the sentence correct? Honestly, this pathetic non-native speaker can't tell). Maybe we'll see something like that in 2016, that would be a retcon would accept with open arms for once. Toa Nuva with whole new masks and "Matoran" wearing recolours of the 2015 Toa masks.. yesssss.

I kind of want to experiment with these Toa's color schemes when I get them to see how the look with their original Mata colors. (Lewa with lime green instead of Keetorange, Onua with green highlights, Pohatu with yellow or orange instead of silver, etc. etc.)

Yes, I do plan to change some of the Toa' colours. I like Lewa's yellow, but since I have another green and yellow Toa of Air in my canon (whom I created years ago, around 2009- I thought it was an unorthodox colour scheme you'd never see on a set, so imagine my surprise when I saw 2015 Lewa!) I rather have Lewa go back to his, ahem, roots (lime) so there can be less repetition. Pohatu is definitely an odd one I have a hard time getting used to- I have two ideas floating around, both involving the removal of the very odd tr. neon green bones and a partial or total replacement of silver.

The other Toa, I think their colours are spot on. Gali's titanium metallic is a very brave but very cool idea. Onua and Kopaka desperately needed more exciting colour schemes, and they're great ones (too much gold, though..)- interesting idea about giving Onua green highlights, I might try that out for fun. I have some reserves about Tahu's tr. reddish orange (it.. isn't.. a colour I can say I love), it looks good with gold and a transparent colour makes sense for a Fire Toa, but I wonder if solid orange would look better or not (again, I would've liked tr. flame orange more,

but Lego seems to disagree with me).

But, as I always say, just because I want to mod a set doesn't mean I dislike it (if I did, they'd just end up in the parts bin). All 6 Toa sets on their own are very, very good. I just want to make them a bit closer to their original forms (not very hard, they're already very faithful for the most part).

Yup, I agree with your ideas on modding. The sets are very good on their own, but I am gonna make a handful of small adjustments on them once I get them to refine them a teensy bit more. I absoulutely love how well CCBS lends itself to small modifications! My current plans involve:

Lewa- moving down his shoulders one module and replace the keetorange. PoJ: Replacing the majority of the trans apple green and keetorange with apple green and olive green.

Gali- simplifying her trident down PoW- moving the propellers to the back

Pohatu- removing the trans neon green (which will wait until I get him in-hand to see how it looks) PoS- revamping his weapon into a minigun-esque shooter

Kopaka- new shield attatchment PoI- more trans light blue, new weapon mounts, and ELBOWS

Tahu- more trans neon orange PoF- new chest build, a sword made out of those fire pieces, and ELBOWS

Onua- swapping gold pieces to silver PoE- a revamp from the ground up to be primarily dark grey and black with some purple

LOSS- a complete and total revamp from the ground up to be big, bulky, and based on CCBS

On the topic of modifying sets, LOSS is getting a somewhat overhaul revamp for me. First off I'll be changing the gender of LOSS to female (mostly because we don't see many female villains let alone characters in Bionicle). The leg function will remain the same but will have longer legs using friction joints. She will be based off of the mythological creature known as a Drider (half humanoid half spider).

Her upper body build will be that of Gali's and will have massive talon claws (using Pyrox horns) that can grip onto Masks. Her left arm will have a rapid shooter too and the right arm is the gear function. She will be wearing the Gold Mask of Skull Spiders but it will have a "crown" on it.

Since her body is based around Gali's, she also has shoulder pads. Using extra 2015 heads she can have other Skull Spiders attached to her (inspired by actual mother spiders that carry their young)

Oh BTW she will be renamed to Aracxia - Queen of Skull Spiders

I'm going to give PoS Pohatu's silver shin guards, and giving Pohatu the brown shells. Then, I'll buy a second PoS just to have a complete one. :)

I also have quite a few plans that involve getting multiples of figures... My wallet is hurting so much already. :cry_sad: Almost 18 days to go!

I really don't think changing Lewa's yellow shells to lime is that a great idea, think about a MOC that would use reddish brown and dark orange as main colors... no please.

I only plan on a few MODs. Tahu's getting back leg armor: just a regular 5M shell (think Stormer XL's leg rotated 90 degrees). Protectors of Ice and Fire will be getting elbows (may do something with PoF's legs as well. Short upper legs are weird). And of course LOSS, if I feel up to it, using TheOneVeyronian's design or something similar.

It could potentially work, I think, though I don't think it'd work as well as his current color scheme. I've seen a Lewa MOC with that color scheme that looked all right.

In any case, it's sort of a moot point because 4M shells don't exist in Bright Yellowish Green. Maybe Transparent Bright Green might work better? After all, the Tahu, Kopaka, and Gali sets use transparent colors to great effect. I just tested it and it actually looks really cool. Like the Flame Yellowish Orange shells, Transparent Bright Green ones add a lot of energy.

How would you change gender of a spider in a MOC?

Sure, transparent would fit him like a dream. It's strange actually that unlike all the other sets, Lewa has no transparent bones or shells.

How would you change gender of a spider in a MOC?

Female spiders tend to be larger and more "fat" than males. If it has space to carry the other spiders it helps to give it a feeling of a broodmother.

And if it really is partly humanoid it's even easier to make it look like a female.

When compared to the real life spiders this sounds like a great idea. But here in Bionicle the LOSS controls them trough the mask, not because those are his/her children.

What if LOSS was just a outcast spider of his species and was sent to Okoto but stumbled upon the mask and took control of the neutral spiders on the island trough the mask?

But because of similiar color scheme, and actions I believe that Makuta was transformed into a spider and eventually found his old mask of control and took control of the spiders. I really don't know how and why he transformed and why the same happened to his mask...

He said it would be half humanoid/half spider. Along with what GK733 said, I'm sure the human half would be more feminine.

Well makuta Is a Mask maker, what if he made the golden mask of Skull Spiders and he is just using LoSS for his plans?
