Kingslayer Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 I kinda hope they save Makuta for later. Build him up a little before releasing him as a set. I would like him appearing in his purple and gold form Quote
Quisoves Pugnat Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 So, ought we to call the Summer wave "Boneheads of Okoto?" =P It will be good to have more villains. I wonder if any of them will include small adversaries, ala the Skull Spiders. Trained Rahi, perhaps? The Baby Fire Protector (aka Twokua)? =P Oh, and a merry Christmas everyone! Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 I am even more excited for 2015 now. We'll finally have proper adversaries for the Toa and--wait, hold it: Could this be a flashback wave? Since we get Mask Maker vs Skull Grinder, that means that we are going to learn more of the story pre-Ekimu's death. And the other skull-whatevers seem to be henchmen to him, so maybe we are going back in the story, sort of like they did with Metru Nui?! Quote

Though I find it unlikely that we would "flash back" after only half a year. I've considered that the Toa use their gold masks and the Mask of Creation to wake Ekimu (assuming he's not perma-dead) and have him fight with them. (EDIT: Kapura'd by Voxovan on that one) But I find it unlikely that Ekimu would be awoken in only half a year of story, either. Or perhaps that set alone is a flash back; the skull legions were fought off by Ekimu (and Makuta? and Protectors?) some time before this story, and now they are rising to power once more? *Scratches head* Edited December 25, 2014 by mysteriouspi Quote

Why recount history, when you can venture there yourself? Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Or maybe Toa awoke Ekimu? Hm? Well, if they already awoke him after six months, then there is a serious lack of tension. Also, as mysteriouspi pointed out, Ekimu may actually be dead. Not asleep; dead. Anyway, I have a problem with the masks of power: Why would Makuta need a Mask of Control? I mean, what would control have to do with making masks? Quote
GK733 Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 "...and find the maskmaker" Why they need to find Ekimu if not for resurrecting him? Quote
Agent Fusion Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Why do they need to find the Mask Maker? They've already found Ekimu, so are they looking for Makuta? Or is there a third Mask Maker? Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Third Mask Maker will be Mata Nui. If it happens, I called it! But seriously: they know where Ekimu is.....they know where Makuta is......So who's left? BTW, I'm hoping that we get a Sidorak-type character is this wave. The names all sound pretty generic from what we've heard, but I doubt that they are official names. Quote
Mandate Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 I am sure they could make an amazing Makuta set using current CCBS. I never said LEGO couldn't. Quote

Assuming that the body of Ekimu isn't lost to the ages, it is possible that they must find him in the past. Given the presence of the Temple of Time, I will be surprised if we don't see a bit of time-travel. Quote
Kalhiki Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 But seriously: they know where Ekimu is.....they know where Makuta is...... Not necessarily. I was thinking, too, that they already know where Ekimu is sleeping (And Makuta, I suppose). But then I realized that the Protectors who put him in the sarcophagus were probably ones from years ago. They're the ones who passed down the Prophecy of Heroes through the ages to the current Protectors, and over that time, Ekimu's resting place was most likely forgotten. We don't know how much time passed between The Mask Makers being put to sleep and the current story. Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 ^True. Assuming that the body of Ekimu isn't lost to the ages, it is possible that they must find him in the past. Given the presence of the Temple of Time, I will be surprised if we don't see a bit of time-travel. That actually sounds like it might happen....And honestly, it would be great. We get to learn more about Ekimu and Makuta, and what Okoto was like before the Toa's arrival. (Outside of the 10 seconds we see in the video). Quote
Chro Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 That is a really good point, Kalhiki. I hadn't thought of the fact that they weren't the same ones - I guess I'm used to nigh infinite lifespans. Quote
Dorek Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Perhaps Ekimu's spirit is detached from the body somehow (why else would he be described as "lifeless"?), something like Mata Nui? His body is obviously entombed, unless something happened to it. Quote
Phoenix_Flare Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 (edited) But seriously: they know where Ekimu is.....they know where Makuta is......So who's left? Well, technically we don't know where Makuta is. I think that it's safe to assume that the Protectors couldn't find his body and only found Ekimu's. Makuta might've re-awoken and traveled to the ancient city where LOSS is said to be. LOSS is guarding the entrance to it which means that he's guarding Makuta as well. on the animation Okoto map there is a canyon-like area in the dessert region. It's near the central mountains. That might be where the ancient city is located. Edited December 26, 2014 by Phoenix_Flare Quote
the last chronicler Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 (edited) I'm betting when we see a Makuta set he'll be called the Mask Hoarder, as hinted by the product page description. It creates a clear foil for "The Mask Maker," and considering skull grinder is most likely a vilian, Ekimu should be in the "vs" set. Lego doesn't want to add any more complications to the mythology by having another hero Mask Maker, and Makuta's mask making is a lesser aspect of his character. Rayskull Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 I'm hoping the skull creatures are using new masks... not really fond of the skull spider masks, I may be alone on this. But this is exciting, new pieces are possible here so, whats not to like. Quote

But this is exciting, new pieces are possible here so, whats not to like. That's actually kinda ironic for a guy named 'Rayskull'. :P I am personally hoping for it because we haven't seen the Skull Spiders, as I mentioned, used as primary masks. It would be interesting if the villain sets in-story were animal or warrior species (think the Vorox) who are taken over by the Skull Spiders and the Toa are suppossed to free them from their control. Quote
ToaDraco Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 I think the problem is that everyone is assuming that the mask maker is Ekimu, it most likely will be a new character, though I too hope it is. I love that we may be getting an army of evil skull monsters, however I'm a bit concerned by the complete lack of named characters. It's all well and good that we get some generic soldier or villager sets for army building and such but I would hope for some of them to actually have names, like "mask maker" should have an actual name. Granted the list is probably preliminary and the names are not finalized, or heck none of it could be real but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Regardless, I am excited to find out! Quote
Quisoves Pugnat Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 I just had a thought. It's purely conjecture, but I thought it interesting enough to share. Assuming that the Villagers of Okoto are biomechanical beings, like their Gen1 counterparts, then the presence of the Skull-enemies is something of an oddity. Now, assuming that the Villagers didn't evolve the way they are, then perhaps the Skull-critters are their prototypes? Maybe the Great Beings of Gen2 (if they exist) first attempted to synthesize life using parts of cadavers, before employing a less macabre method? Quote
NanoxVox Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 OK, here's my wild stab in the dark about the new sets. I think the names shown are not going to be the final names of the sets. Two things clue me into this, the "Mask Maker" set isn't referred to a Ekimu (I'm going to assume that the set is Ekimu until proven otherwise), and the names of the other sets are very similar to the “in progress” name of the LOSS (Skull Krana). As for the possible identity of the sets, I think that these are going to be a redo of the infected rahi from Gen1 Bionicle with the Skull Spiders playing the part of the infected masks. Quote
the last chronicler Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 I think there is some conformation bias in assuming the names are prelim. While it's certainly possible, the names are consistent fit for the style LEGO is looking for in this relaunch: simple titles. Maybe we might get names online, but the use of skull shows a very consistent thematic choice of description. The names sound as basic and as strange as 'protector' (which is worse then Guardian: one of the early translations) and 'master,' so I feel that at most they could be mistranslated. Just because we want kooky Bionicle names doesn't mean LEGO does. Quote
Kalhiki Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 (edited) If they wanted the characters to have names, couldn't they just do a similar deal like with the Toa? Where it's the character's name and then a title? For instance: [insert name here] the Skull Warrior. Honestly, I don't mind the names. It doesn't really matter to me since I like how they sound as-is. In terms of the Mask Maker if it's Ekimu, what if instead of having the Mask of Creation it's the gold/trans blue blend Protector mask from the animation? Then they could continue to build up the MoCr for a different set later. I doubt this'll happen considering how much the MoCr has been built up from the start, but remember we didn't get the Mask of Life until '08 after its reveal in '06. And the MoCr is lost anyway story-wise, so Ekimu wouldn't have it to begin with. Just a thought. Edited December 26, 2014 by Kalhiki Quote
