I guess Gatanui is talking about the whole "Mata Nui is like a human body, Toa are his antibodies, Makuta is the disease etc" idea Faber got when he was himself fighting cancer.

Headcanon accepted.

The full name of BIONICLE, or rather, the extended name, is "Biological Chronicle". A chronicle of biology, recording the fight for Mata Nui's survival. The Toa came in capsules, representative of different pills and their effects, to fight Makuta who infected the Rahi, and the Matoran (basically, cells and stuff). The Toa (pills) must work together to fight the infection, or else Mata Nui dies. (yeah, I'm really bad at explaining this)

Basically, Makuta was a tumor, the Toa were pills and Christian Faber was Mata Nui.

Off-topic what I'm about to say, but exactly why did the Great Beings make a giant robot only to fill it with dirt and water?

I'm not fond of these...there's no real story here and no world building.

Moving on...

They convey the basic story of the Toa teaming up with the Protectors to fight the Skull Spiders and get their golden masks...

The island includes ancient temples, ruins, carvings and a statue of what may turn out to be something important in later years...

Indeed.

I still remember that beautiful moment when, near the end of 2008, the video of Mata-Nui rising was posted on BIONICLE.com.

Though I doubt there will be any reveals of such scale or uniqueness in BIO2015, I do hope that there comes a point in the next 3 years where seemingly unrelated bits of evidence are put together perfectly, and give us a better understanding of the story.

8? Which did you get?

All the six and 2 extra stone protectors, really wanted that brown and those piston shells for MOCing purposes.

Yup! I am still working on getting Gali and Onua, and I am already writing up a list of duplicate sets to get for parts after them... (So far it includes Lewa, the PoF, and LoSS)

I can also testify to this. I'm still missing Tahu, Pohatu and 4 Protectors. So much for being able to buy all 13 at once like I'd originally planned. I do already have a duplicate of Protector of Earth though just so I could give him a mace (pics later), give my Onua trans-purple upper arms and give my self-MOC another accessory - an arm ending in a gatling gun (pics of that too if anybody's interested). Mind you, I shouldn't grumble, I bought an extra LOSS face from BL (so my trans-light blue Skull Spider queen could have a face) and that ended up turning into a fairly big order for 2015 Bionicle parts to MOC with. Just got to wait for that to arrive to get my next Bionicle 2015 fix

Still getting a duplicate of Onua though - there's so many good parts in that set that it's better to buy that set as a whole

His main goal was to explore and observe other worlds, other planets, because the Great Beings wanted to find a way to "reform" Spherus Magna (which had been destroyed by the Shattering because of the Energized Protodermis leaking from the core of the planet).

Today I finally got some of the sets and they are amazing. So far I got Lewa and the Protectors of Jungle and Stone and i'm thinking of buying a few more because they are just amazing.

Seriously I couldn't be more happy with these sets and i'm definitley looking forward to all the new sets that will come in the future.

Sorry, let me rephrase the original question: Why did the Great Beings create a giant robot to save their world, and then fill it with dirt and ore for its inhabitants to mine out? For instance, Onu-Metru's mines. Why should these even exist inside of an artificial structure?

I already knew what you just said, but thanks anyway.

Perhaps the Great Beings wanted the Matoran to live full lives with many experiences so that, if all life on Spherus Magna died in the shattering, they could repopulate it along with any other races Mata Nui created; which is what happened in the end anyway. Also, the Matoran Universe would be far less convincing as a place to live if it looking entirely like the insides of a robot (like as portrayed in the beginning of The Legend Reborn).

It's also worth remembering that, whatever can be said about them, the Great Beings were definitely mad scientists. Logically, Mata Nui shouldn't look like a humanoid either, but like a sphere for the maximum volume/surface ratio.

Not read the story in depth so may be wrong about this, but from those sentences it seems like the following was the intention;

Each of the biospheres inside the giant robot were intended as a way of saving the inhabitance of their world. By saving their world they didnt mean saving the planet, they meant saving the people/Bionicles. This was a lesson hammered in during the events of Legend Of Metru Nui especially... the Matoran being the most important thing to save.

While the biospheres are artificial they contain everything needed to substain life, as such it would'nt be suprising that they would contain mines such as how an ant-farm contains enough dirt so the ants can tunnel.

Creative license plays a factor as i'm sure a giant sphere would have been a less impressive reveal than a massive alien robot. In addition if we think about it, their are ways that storing the biospheres in a giant robot makes more sense, for example maybe they were being attacked by actual bio-mechanical giant robots which they based their robot off. In that position they'd want something that could fight back if attacked.

Much like any program, the Matoran needed to serve a purpose. The stuff the Po-Matorans mined went to Ta-Metru, where they made masks, which kept the Matoran alive so that they could work, and the working is what keeps Mata Nui alive. The specifics of how the work kept Mata Nui alive never quite materialized, but it's intended to be a self-sufficient system.

So... why would they bother creating a whole universe inside a giant robot ? Well, I don't know, that's an interesting question. I'd say that since they created many artificial lifeforms to maintain this robot, perhaps they thought it could be nice for these lifeforms to have their own universe to live in. TDC's idea is good too. :sweet:

In fact, the Matoran don't come from Spherus Magna, they were created by the Great Beings to build and maintain the giant robot for millennia during its mission, so from the GBs' point of view, they don't need to be saved.

You guys should check BS01 (or maybe open a BIONICLE G1 Story thread ?) if you want to know more.

Yup, I think we should have a thread discussing the G1 story of Bionicle and I am surprised that we don't already have one.

That's not the case at all. The Great Beings created the Matoran to be mindless workers. They didn't have sentience until a certain GB in a Matoran body gave it to them.

Yeah, but why not just stockpile the resources in massive warehouses for them to use rather than force them to go to all the effort of digging through the ground and having far less resources in the end than had they just put them in a big pile? It's going to run out eventually anyway, so... y'know.

But I agree with Leewan, this really does belong in its own thread rather than the 2015 one

Aaand Protectors Fight Back has been released! For some reason it only works on my mobile device, and the entire lego videos site doesn't work on my laptop. It still says "Coming soon" on the Bionicle site, but the Bionicle Videos page has it listed. And by "Protectors Fight Back" they really meant "The Protector of Fire holds off Spiders with a Cool Gun while Tahu grabs his Gold Mask."

Rest in peace all those green Skull Spiders. Also, we know that the Elemental Blasters can run out of ammo, and Tahu is always very hammy which isn't a bad thing.

I found it cute how the PoF rode on Tahu's back and he dropped him over the ledge.

"I CAN... FEEL.... THA.... POOOOWAAAAH!"

Onu-Metru's tunnels were not simply mines, but archives, which were basically like a big museum. They store information from throughout the Matoran Universe. What purpose does this serve? Well, I guess you could consider it Mata Nui's "memory banks", recording diagnostic information from his body. If something went wrong somewhere in his body (an invasion by Visorak, or a civil war between Matoran, or even just a natural disaster), the Archives would keep a record of what happened, why, and ideally, how to prevent it happening again.

As for why the Matoran had to mine them out, I suppose you could compare it to synapse formation in the human brain.
