Clone 01354 Productions Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 The Great Beings were definitely.....insane. We'll just leave it at that. And don't worry about the episodes being pretty mindless right now; LEGO has a reason to this: they still need to introduce a WHOLE NEW GENERATION OF FANS. Think: when we first discovered BIONICLE, the story was fairly limited (especially in the first few months). They were just trying to introduce us to the characters, and just get our feet wet. And I just now realized that this is the FIRST official month of Gen 2. Kids are just learning about it now, going on BIONICLE.com for the first time ever, and LEGO has to get the ball rolling from here. So really, nobody panic. This is the first month of BIONICLE, and we still have some time before LEGO feels more comfortable to up the complexity. Quote

Kalhiki Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Can Tahu feel the power? They didn't really make that clear. lol Good episode, but I hope they put more focus on the other Toa soon. Quote
Mandate Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Onu-Metru's tunnels were not simply mines, but archives, which were basically like a big museum. They store information from throughout the Matoran Universe. What purpose does this serve? Well, I guess you could consider it Mata Nui's "memory banks", recording diagnostic information from his body. If something went wrong somewhere in his body (an invasion by Visorak, or a civil war between Matoran, or even just a natural disaster), the Archives would keep a record of what happened, why, and ideally, how to prevent it happening again. As for why the Matoran had to mine them out, I suppose you could compare it to synapse formation in the human brain. I'm pretty sure featured a mine site, and Dorek mentioned earlier that the Ta-Matoran got their metal and resources from Onu-Metru to make Kanohi masks. I'm aware of what the Archives are, by the way. Quote

Dorek Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Yeah, it's the latest episode. Turns out they did recycle some of the character animation stuff, but obviously went more in depth. I'm looking forward to the next episode, where hopefully we can see what the Skull Spiders actually do when they facehug. Quote

I know Bionicle is aimed at kids, but they could've made it darker/mature for the age group that enjoy Hunger Games, etc. Quote

Clone 01354 Productions Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Anyway, the episode was actually pretty...fun. Story-wise, we got nowhere. But the animation was great, we got to see POF in action, and I laughed for a very long time when Tahu lifted POF over the ledge.....He's just so adorable!! Also, I know a few of you already said it, but......I (also) can....Feel...The.....POOOWAA!!!!!!! If that doesn't become the next BIONICLE joke, then I don't know what will! Quote

I know Bionicle is aimed at kids, but they could've made it darker/mature for the age group that enjoy Hunger Games, etc. I understand what you are getting at, but you are phrasing it oddly. "darker/mature" implies you see some strong correlations between the two concepts, and that disturbs me. Darker never equates more mature; a dark work can be quite juvenile or absurd, or an optimistic or relatively conflict-lite setting can be complex. Though the story is laughably simplistic at this point, it could become more complex without necessarily being much darker than it is now. Edited January 14, 2015 by The Kumquat Alchemist Quote

Shakar Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 (edited) Now that I built, modded and played with Tahu a bit I can give some thoughts on my first Biokotonicle set. Not sure if I'll write such long reviews (if at all) for the other sets, I usually don't write reviews in general and this one isn't just about Tahu but about some common elements among the sets as well (gearbox, etc). GENERAL + He looks simply awesome. Strong, regal and powerful like the leader of the Toa should look. While not a tank like Onua, he's big. This is no Tahu Mistika, this guy is bulky and filled out..except the shins. LIMBS - The shins are, yes, pretty pathetic. They're quite flat and they look dull. This can be easily fixed, but this post is about the set, I'll post my mods later. - The silver feet and hands are just out of place and I don't understand why they used them. - The arms, at least in my set, wobbled a bit too much. Again, this isn't hard to fix. TORSO+HEAD + The chest decoration is gorgeous. The design, the colours, the metallic lines.. I can't wait to see the other 5 designs in person. - I've written about this many times already so I'll be brief: I don't like the repeated use of the 2.0 torso shell for the..well, torso. This goes for Lewa too. WEAPONS + The wing blades are just as cool as I thought, adjusting them around is a lot of fun and they contribute to Tahu's regal look. - The Adrenaline Mode is a bit awkward in look and posing to me... + ...but I still love the concept. NEW PIECES + Not new to me since I got the clear one weeks ago, but I didn't write much about it anyway, so I shall now. The Mask of Fire got a lot of flak for looking too different from the prototype version (hailed as an excellent revamp of the 2001 Hau), I was disappointed by it myself. But once I got the piece in my hands all my doubts disappeared: not everybody is going to like it I guess, but for me it is an excellent update of the original Hau. + The Skull Spider looks very cool and creepy and I hope the Skull villains' masks measure up to its (well, their) design- but I'm optimistic on that. + The new head looks perfect to me, it evokes the Mata and Metru heads very well. - It's true, the eyestalk is very dark. I hope the neon green one is a bit more visible.. + I absolutely love the gearbox! It makes the figure thick and full and opens up to a whole new series of opportunities to adjust the figure's proportions. + The greatswords are fantastic. They're pretty similar to Lhikan's blades, but they have more connecion points and far less awkward handles. + The new piston add-on looks great and fits over almost all shells (it doesn't work on the Fire Villains machinery shell). EDIT: Lol, I check for typos a hundred times but there's always something that escapes me. Edited January 14, 2015 by Shakar Quote
Scarilian Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 (edited) So... thoughts on the new episode; - The GSR event stuff felt a little heavy handed, the mention of time directly after looking at the Vahi image for example - It feels like rather than going for a simple 'Tahu doesnt rememeber being a Toa' its more like he's forgotten everything reverting to an almost child-like state where the Protectors are his mentors. I get the idea, it just feels very strange to watch Could someone give a link to the protector episode please? I can't find the channel. You can check it out here given Takanuinuva mentioned the direct link might not work for everyone, here is an alternative; https://www.youtube....h?v=ndJoQdjCeWU Edited January 14, 2015 by Scarilian Quote
arc Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Oh dear. That qoute is gonna plague bionicle Fandom for a long time. Beside that it was an ok episode, but I really hope we get some focusing on the other toa, especially now that we have Australian pohatu. Quote

Timeline15 Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Wow, Tahu is like some sort of self parody. MASTER OF FIYAAHHH! FEEL THE POWAAAHHH! I'm sorry, but this narrator seems to be trying to put on epic voices when he really can't. Even his protector of fire voice sounds cartoonishly over the top. XD feels like the story is racing by too. hopefully once the line has settled in a bit, things will calm down. Though I do like that Tahu's first instinct was just to run away from the skull spiders. Nekchir Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 The golden mask winner has been announced:http://rebrick.lego.com/en-US/BottomMenu/Blog/01142014-bionicle-winner.aspx Quote
Scarilian Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 (edited) The golden mask winner has been announced:http://rebrick.lego....cle-winner.aspx Its a little disappointing that the winning entry for a unique and creative villain is a generic black and red demonic being with wings... In terms of a MOC it's 'alright' but it went overboard with the Greebling and the fact it probably cost about 3-5 times the amount of the 2015 Winter sets to make, seems excessive. Its also a little unfortunate the winner was lucky enough to not only attend NYCC but also be a VIP in order to get the 2015 parts early for the MOC. I just kind of thought the winner would be someone who hadnt had the luck to attend NYCC and someone who would view the golden mask and the 2015 sets as the ultimate prize and not something they could get themselves with spare cash. Yet most the runners up were massively over-complicated MOC's that otherwise were not very creative in terms of being varied from the villains we already had. I know its a bit of a harsh opinion, but seeing that winning entry just makes me realise we're unlikely to get good main villains in the coming years and they'll probably all just be generic black and red sets. So congrats on the winner, but i'm worried what these means for future Bionicle sets if they view that as the best villain design. Edited January 14, 2015 by Scarilian Quote
Risgrynsgrot Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Once again in these kind of competitions it's "most parts wins" as usual.. Quote
The Kumquat Alchemist Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 (edited) Once again in these kind of competitions it's "most parts wins" as usual.. That seems to be an overly simplistic view of things. Though I would say that the winning MOC was judged more on execution than on being an actually interesting concept, the execution of the winner's rather generic concept was beautifully done. That it used a large amount of parts seems irrelevant, so long as those parts were used well. Edited January 14, 2015 by The Kumquat Alchemist Quote
