Still Raindrop Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Still, interesting that they're specifically mentioning it--and "an ancient era in Bionicle history" is an interesting choice of words, to be sure. It keeps things very ambiguous. Quote
The Kumquat Alchemist Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 (edited) What? The Vahi that's in every episode? :P Though quite obvious to those familiar with the early-middle years of the first BIONICLE, I imagine this could require a good deal of research (or luck in running across someone who does remember the Vahi) from those who have never heard of BIONICLE before now, since all they have to go on is a vague repeated image. TheDesuComplex Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 http://www.lego.com/...story/episode-5 The new episode is gonna be called "The Power of the Golden Masks". I bet it will involve Tahu going super-saiyan power-up with his golden mask and blowing away all the skull spiders. Maybe there will be a montage of the other Toa doing the same. Quote

Maybe there will be a montage of the other Toa doing the same. Very likely. Just watch, those scenes where the Toa switch to their battle mode weapons in the character videos will all be put together into a montage. I hope this is the last episode where Tahu and the PoF are the only important characters and everyone else is only shown in a montage. I want to see Lewa VS. Onua. Quote
Rayskull Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 This was an impressive launch of line, the complete opposite of Hasbro, where I still cant find the 2015 combiners line anywhere. Lego was on time or earlier. Hasbro should take note. Quote

I've noticed quite an overlap between Bionicle fans and Transformers fans and I've seen it brought up time and time again in this topic, which isn't a good place to vent your frustrations about a whole 'nother toyline from a completely different company. Dorek Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 I hope the next episode is not a montage, but it probably will be. I want to get into the meat of things, beyond what we've seen in the trailers and the promo art. Them acquiring the Golden Masks is certainly a focus, yeah, but what happens AFTER that? What do they do with these masks, where does LOSS come in, do they actually "power up" with the Protectors? That kind of stuff. Quote
Shakar Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 I've been wondering about this (pure speculation ahead): what if Skull Grinder wears a cape? We've had a caped constraction set each year for two years straight so far. No Master or Protector is wearing one and it seems it would fit Grinder's description and supposed role well. A recolour of Fangar's cape design perhaps (red?). Quote

Just speculation here, but here is how it seems to be going; 2015 Winter story; Arrive on Okoto with memory loss Discover Prophecy about them Acquire golden masks Save Protectors who were now Skull Spider'd Protectors reward Toa with weapons and armor and return to protect their respective regions Defeat LoSS at the entrance to an ancient City 2015 Summer story; Enter the ancient city Discover the ancient city is overwhelmed by Skull Scorpions who have since taken over the abandoned city Find Mask Of Creation Find and awaken Ekimu using the Mask Of Creation With Ekimu's help defeat the leader of the Skull tribe's (Skull Grinder) 2016 Winter story; Get told the story of the three masks, Creation, Control and Ultimate Power Begin to remember aspects of their past Elect to track down Makuta's body to discover the Mask Of Control Travel to Makuta's 'tomb' 2016 Summer story; Locate Mask Of Control Accidentally awaken Makuta Remember an aspect of their past, a mysterious 7th Master/Toa 2017 Summer story; Race for the Mask Of Ultimate Power Arrival or re-introduction of a seventh Toa/Master (E.g. Takanuva) Makuta gains Mask Of Ultimate Power 2017 Winter story; Defeat Makuta Gain Mask Of Ultimate Power (If the story is to be continued) they discover that they are actually from a different timezone and stranded in this time period for an unspecified amount of time until next solar alignment. Future storylines could then have them using the Mask Of Time to travel back to their original time which may or may not be from the Mata-verse OR staying to protect the Okoto citizens. Their is also the question of the Prophecy, so if it continues past the Mask Of Ultimate Power storyline we may see them travel back in time to an older time on Okoto. From the facebook page: The island of Okoto is a mystical place. Today it still reminds us of an ancient era in Bionicle history. Can you discover a sign from the old days in the current story trailer? I get the feeling the whole focus on time is less a nod to the past and more telling us that the past is still in continuity. I just dont get why they'd have the memory loss if it means nothing in the long-run. Edited January 16, 2015 by Scarilian Quote

At this point, we still don't have enough evidence to say if it means anything or not; the reference to "BIONICLE history" could refer to the line's history in the real world, just as much as it could mean there is an actual connection between the in-story histories of the two BIONICLE lines. Risgrynsgrot Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Today I finally got my first set, Tahu, and he blew me away! Ive watched tons of reviews and pictures but hes something else in the plastic! I especially like his swords/lavaboard, beatifully molded. Now I cant wait to get the rest of the sets! Quote
Kalhiki Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 If the story continues on after this, I kinda hope Makuta becomes a good guy... I don't know. I just think it'd be cool to see the big bad join the Toa much like Garmadon joined the ninjas in Ninjago. I really see this happening mainly because Makuta was never really evil and was mostly just corrupted by the MoUP and his jealousy. Also, Scarilian, I like you're Takanuva concept. Would be cool to see some kind of Legendary Toa/being who is able to control the MoUP. Maybe not a Toa of Light, though. Perhaps Toa of Time? Quote

True, i just mean all the in-story/animation refrences to Time; - Temple Of Time - 'Running out of time' - Mask Of Time Whatever the case whether its connected to the old universe or not i feel we'll probably see them explore Time Travel if it continues for more than the three years. If the story continues on after this, I kinda hope Makuta becomes a good guy... I don't know. Same about Makuta, get the feelings its the Mask Of Ultimate Power that is evil. Kind of like a metaphor for drugs, the person themselves isnt really evil they were just corrupted by power. A Toa of Time could also work as a seventh Toa or as a different character who comes in to explain the creation of the Mask Of Time in this timeline, if its indeed not connected to the other. As for the Takanuva concept i've had a theory for a while now that the MoUP when it appears in set form will be the Avohkii or atleast a variation of that mask, given both masks have the six prongs on the side. I'm all for this idea. Would be horribly ironic for us Gen 1 fans: what was a symbol of hope and light would become the face of evil. Either Makuta gets it back and wreaks havoc, or a seventh Toa could don it as before. Which begs the question, would the Toa be made evil by the mask? Or overcome its inherent evil and use it to fight Makuta/whoever else? The placement of the prongs on the animated MoUP is not close to the Avohkii as we know it, but that could be because 1) artistic license and/or 2) the new design is reminiscent but significantly different. Or they're not supposed to be related. But hey, speculation's a thing. Quote

Scarilian Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) I'm all for this idea. Would be horribly ironic for us Gen 1 fans: what was a symbol of hope and light would become the face of evil. When combining varying colours for example you either create an additive colour (White) or a subtractive colour (Black) Which could be mirrored in the idea that all the elements either create a 'Mask Of Light' or a 'Mask Of Darkness' It would be a nice twist and help differentiate this more from the previous generation while also introducing a nice twist on the idea of Power corrupting whoever has it. Either Makuta gets it back and wreaks havoc, or a seventh Toa could don it as before. Which begs the question, would the Toa be made evil by the mask? Or overcome its inherent evil and use it to fight Makuta/whoever else? Yeah, i could see it happening either way. Their is also the possibility that Makuta turns good, though i view that as less likely if Lego want to stick to their formula of having the bad guy be defeated then come back more powerful than before. I think the mask itself is like the Ignika in the sense that its is sentient and has an ability to control a host (When Makuta put it on it took control over him) so its possible it could depend on the willpower of the Toa. Its an intriguing thought and could be a nice way to introduce a 7th Toa or even a new villain to replace Makuta after 2016. (I can see us getting a Makuta set with the Mask Of Control in 2016) The placement of the prongs on the animated MoUP is not close to the Avohkii as we know it, but that could be because 1) artistic license and/or 2) the new design is reminiscent but significantly different. Or they're not supposed to be related. But hey, speculation's a thing. I know its not exact, but i just think the idea of combining all the elements into a single mask is very remiscent of the idea of unity of the six toa to get the seventh Toa. The changes can be attributed as you said to either artistic license or that its different similar to how the new Toa masks only carry certain aspects of the old. Either way, its just a fun thing to speculate until we get more set information. Though i'll be happy getting the mask eventually regardless Edited January 17, 2015 by Scarilian Quote

Now that I think about it, that would be an awesome thing to have; especially since (as you said) Makuta isn't truly evil. His redemption could be a good lesson to teach to the kiddies. Here's to hoping that Ekimu doesn't suddenly go evil afterwards, though. Quote

Clone 01354 Productions Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) Perhaps Toa of Time? I would love that, sooooo much. Takanuva-esque charater , new Vahi, funmetal gunmetal and gold color scheme? We need more unique characters; as much as I love the original BIONICLE elements, they got boring really quick: Fire, Ice, Air, etc....When we got the Toa of Light, and Toa of Life, it added some excitement. Also, just for fun: Edited January 17, 2015 by LN-01354 Quote

Just quick thoughts on these; Skull Warrior - Looks alright, nothing too major. Feel like if i were to pass on a set, this would be it Skull Slicer - Seems like a good set for the technic pieces and odd colours, other than that at the moment it looks like i'd pass on it also Skull Basher - Probably the best of the three in terms of spikes and claws, feel like it'd be this set if i were to only get one of the cheaper sets Skull Scorpio - Not much to say, essentially LoSS just with more articulation. Might get it, but depends on whether we get another printed face Mask Maker Vs Skull Grinder; Little disappointed that its just a large Tahu/Kopaka style villain fighting a Protector, but it does seem like a good set. Two Gear Boxes for essentially a Toa + Protector is a good deal. If this does contain the Mask of Creation i'll definitely be picking up two, though the villain's colour scheme disappoints. DraikNova Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Personally, I hope Makuta doesn't stay as the main bad guy. I'm kind of sick of the whole corrupted by power thing. For once I want to see a villain who thought about things for a while, consciously decided to be evil and then attempted to impose his/her will upon the world. Maybe next year we'll see a proper villain. Quote
