I just went out and bought Tahu with my nan's christmas money. I have to say, I'm really impressed. With the exception of one thing, and it's a thing I thought I'd love, and that everyone else loves...

The gears. I don't know what it is, I just don't like the gear function, at least on Tahu. I think it's just the way the shoulders are, I just don't like it. I've decided to simply lock the gearbox into place, and I think I'm going to leave it like that.

Probably going to buy the Protector of Fire next, and just order a buttload of CCBS parts from bricklink.

One has to wonder whether Makuta created the MoUP just to show up his brother's masks, or if he actually wanted to do something with all that power. He did put the mask on, suggesting he had more in mind than just making better masks than Ekimu.

However, the legend video did say that the mask took control over him after that, so it's hard to say just how far he actually intended to go. (and, indeed, whether the mask "controlling him" was just too much energy driving him berserk, or if it actually had a will of its own).

Yeah, that is some thing Im wondering too. I think I like the psychology of it having so much power that he just couldn't control it. Like too many voices in his head, almost. It makes the rule of having no more than one element make more sense too. I dont think its more logical to say:

All Elements=Too much power for one man to control*

All Elements=Creates sentient entity

*I have just had an idea though. What if, to control the MOUP to do something in relation to the plot, all the Toa have to form together to make a Toa Nui type thing so they can all control their element. It would be a cool super combiner that they could make on the third (and final?) year.

Personally, I'd prefer more functional new pieces like new shell shapes or bone types over detail stuff like the piston add-on. We haven't got much of that since Breakout, so I've been hankering for more.

I believe the most likely new bone type piece we will get is a piece that essentially combines the below pieces, as this would allow an increased level of MOC'ing with the older Bionicle pieces as you'd be able to use either a CCBS armour piece or a classic Bionicle armour piece

Really?

The only thing they have in common is the chest-piece.

Just about everything else is different. Gorzan looks like a standard humanoid with Gorilla-features grafted on. Onua looks like a biomechanical earth golem.

Thats more a matter of perception... both have the same basic design. If you had a shiloutted image of Chi Gorzan compared to a shiloutted image of Power-up Onua it would be very difficult to tell them apart. They also share specific attributes that are the same in a similar way to how Tahu borrows the leg design of Furno XL. Its just the same basic designs being shifted around and switched up occasionally, its what happens when they stick to a system for a long period of time, they repeat the same basic build, like how the Inika build was used for so long

This needs to happen

except most of the small bionicle armor pieces would collide with the ball joint. Like the Inika or Piraka leg armor. Larger armor pieces would work like the inika chest armors.

As long as an arm has two balljoint sockets you could build off it and connect the older pieces. Their are probably ways to do that currently, but it'd be much easier if you could just one of these to help connect the older pieces.

Will Makuta redeem himself or will he stay as the main villain right until the end of the planned 3 year arc? I think it could go either way:

On one hand, "Makuta" is one of the only 7 character names from G1 that has been reused so far. Makuta was chosen, not "Teridax", "Karzahni" or anything else- and there's a good reason for that. Ask the average Lego fan who is BIONICLE's main villain, chances is that they'll reply it's Makuta. It's a very iconic name many instinctively associate with BIONICLE, much like the term Toa. Lego knows about this so I doubt they're going to waste the name of BIONICLE's satanic equivalent for a misguided antivillain.

On the other, the narration clearly stated the MoUP "took control over" Makuta. Also, the MoUP looks nothing like the golden, divine looking legendary masks we've seen in G1 and G2 (Ignika, MoCr, even the MoCo)- it is black and blood red with creepy glowing red eyes. It looks downright demonic.

As I wrote a few weeks ago, the plot is looking to be slightly similar to Ninjago's first year (with a classic Cain and Abel plot and the presence of a group of skeleton-like villains), and given Ninjago's immense popularity I wouldn't be surprised if the G2 took some cues from it (I think Ninjago in turn took a few ideas from BIONICLE G1, but I digress). In that case, Makuta might parallel Garmadon, with the real evil being the Overlord / the MoUP.

However, as Timeline15 noted, "taking control over" might be not supposed to be taken literally and actually means that Makuta was seduced by the power of the MoUP or something along those lines. But as I said, the MoUP looks really, really evil.

I think that Makuta is going to stay as the story's main villain at least throughout the entirety of 2016 and the first half of 2017. Then, something like this might happen: Makuta gets his hands on the MoUP, the Toa manage to defeat him, then he dies or passes out while realizing the error of his ways..but the MoUP has been activated, and it uses Makuta's body as its vessel, turning into the final boss.

And I didn't quite piece together the Avokhii/MoUP similarities until now. Wow.

I didn't lock my Tahu's gearbox, but I used ball socket joints like on Onua's gearbox to massively increase the friction. Now the mechanism doesn't move unless I actually choose to rotate the gear on the back. No wobbling arms and shoulders anymore.

This isn't remotely true. They both have a big chest plate and a head with a small socket link. Otherwise the connections between the same are vastly different- they manner they connect to the torso is entirely different. The arms and legs aren't built the same, and it's a bit of a cop-out to just say "oh it's just shells put on differently" because that's the answer to every single LEGO set ever: it's just similar pieces put together differently. The argument doesn't hold up.

I was not rude to you, so no need to be incredibly rude to me. If you just choose to start fights then why are you here? Their were multiple conversations going on at the same time about the mask and head and you chose not to reply to any comment by qouting it.

As proven by others i was not the only one who mistook your comment, so once again, if you dont clarify then its your own fault. This is a place for discussion not insulting me for pointing out that you should have qouted the comment you were responding to.

Why are you here? I am not going to apologize for pointing out something other people have been saying. Your presence here has been one of:

-Someone says something we have proof of from TLG

-You say "that can't be true there's a vahi."

-Yes but TLG-

-VAHI

-Someone says something about potential new sets

-NO PROOF NAHNAHNAH

It seems half your interactions here exist simply to offer up some twisted devil's advocate position, and it's derailed the topic several times, and it's irritating.

I'm sorry your reading comprehension failed you. I'm not sorry for pointing out that you've been difficult in this topic and your presence isn't very enjoyable here.

It's not really a matter of them wobbling, it's just a matter of how the shoulder plates and arms move... it just... ahem... grinds my gears. I don't know, it just irks me.

I rather think it's a bad idea, for two reasons :

-Older Bionicle pieces belong to an old system which isn't used anymore by Lego (which means these are parts that today's kids might not ever know). So why would they even bother making parts which are compatible with parts that disappeared five years ago ?

-A hole in the middle of the balljoint strongly limits possibilities : you wouldn't be able to do this, or any similar technique (so attaching an armour sideways) anymore. I wouldn't call that increasing the level of MOCing...

- That is true, i was talking more from the MOC'ing community standpoint as it'd be easier to incorporate older pieces if we could attach the older armour to the new system. Though as you state it likely would be more trouble than its worth

- Didnt think of that, good point. Maybe if they have a ball joint either side of a normal ball socket in the middle? Then you could still attach the CCBS armour while also attaching some of the older armour.

Personally i view them as similar as shown by the shilouttes both share key features such as the main body looking fairly identical and the proportions of the build being as wide as it is tall, including a spiked mace, large upper chest that thins out lower. In addition if Onua had his shovel hands they'd both have the similar large hands. Though as i have mentioned its taking aspects of former sets and not directly copying the former sets due to new armour pieces and additions, it just looks similar in style in my opinion

I mentioned the Inika build as an example here, the main structure is the same and varying aspects of the design are similar to what we've seen before and copied in certain cases such as the forementioned Tahu and Furno XL legs. Its a different design obviously, but its looks similar to what we had before, to me atleast.

I'm sorry your reading comprehension failed you. I'm not sorry for pointing out that you've been difficult in this topic and your presence isn't very enjoyable here.

I'm here for Bionicle discussion and for other discussion topics on Eurobricks. The fact that its a Bionicle 2015 Discussion implies that we are meant to discuss things involved with Bionicle, preferably without someone like you who is not a moderator/admin questioning why i am here or belittling me for my contributions to the discussion.

I talked about the Vahi and gave my own thoughts on it appearing and what it means and you shot me and others down for their own views on the subject just because they didnt support what TLG stated. The entire issue with the Vahi discussion that ended several pages back was that in your view, everyone other than you was incorrect and nobody was allowed to think anything differently because it contradicted the idea of how you defined a reboot. As such given you silenced all discussion on the subject we moved on to a different topic.

As for the potential new sets, if they dont provide something to validate their claim or support it then its difficult to consider them as easy to trust viable information and at best can be taken with a grain of salt. Asking for them to give some more details so we can validate if they are telling the truth isnt derailing the topic, it is trying to confirm the information they give as legitimate. When we actually had a source that provided more detailed information i moved on from asking the other source to provide more details and instead moved on to other topics.

If these were my only two things that i've done in this forum then i would'nt be talking about the CCBS system, giving my thoughts on the LDD design's based on the set descriptions, giving my thoughts on how the story and animations could happen and contributing to the discussion that has been changing instead of just focusing on certain aspects and dragging them up all the time.

Instead of constantly asking me 'why are you here' you could have chosen to move on to the next topic also and be civil, instead you are choosing to pester me about discussing Bionicle on a Bionicle topic and thus derailing the topic in the process. Just because you personally dont agree with my opinions doesnt mean that i am automatically banished from the topic and in honesty your continued jabs at me are childish. I would much prefer if we simply talked about Bionicle without you choosing to be rude to me.

Edit;

Any further hostilities you have against me might be best to resolve outside of this topic if necessary.

I thought this site was for "friendly" discussion, or am I missing something? I think it's best you two drop it so we can continue discussing friend-ily...

Anyways I'm excited for NYTF as I usually am, I have been viewing set leaks and NYTF pics since 2009 :P So it's only tradition for me to analyze the pictures everyday until they release. XD Hopefully they are posed decently though.

Posed decently, ha! What a joke...

Ahem. Anywho, I think I'm most excited to see S. Scorpion, S. Grinder, and Ekimu (of course). An animal character sounds great, and I'm hoping for Nui Jaga 2.0 (tail strike function, please!). Excited for Skull Grinder and Ekimu for obvious reasons.

You have no love for basher? Possible new purple parts?

The other two guys doesn't really seem that interesting.

But I got to admit I'm waiting mostly for Ekimu and Grinder too.

In so much as they share the same chestplate-piece. That is, as far as I can tell, the only notable similarity (albeit a notable one) in their main bodies. Gorzan uses this piece for armoring the rest of his torso.

4632593.jpg

Onua uses this.

6032723.jpg

Furthermore, their skeletons are considerably different.

Observe:

goraznskel2.png

70789_Onua_Master_of_Earth_16.jpg

For one, Onua has the gearbox-centered construct on his back, which also supports his arms, unlike Gorzan's shoulder-supported arms.

and the proportions of the build being as wide as it is tall

Onua's legs are 2 meters taller than Gorzan's, and his shoulders are markedly wider. Onua's arms are as long as his legs, no more, no less, whereas Gorzan's arms are three meters longer than his legs. Gorzan's main body piece is two meters taller than Onua's, making them the same height, but for Onua's shoulders. Speaking of which, those are definitely wider than Gorzan's. So, in addition to the considerably different proportions, it is impossible for both builds to be as wide as they are tall, since one is wider, but both are the same height.

including a spiked mace,

Onua has a large warhammer, not a mace.

70789-onua-hammer_360w_2x.png?l.r2=-1684633452

large upper chest that thins out lower.

Most humanoid chests (the original Pohatu's being a notable exception =P) have a way of doing that.

In addition if Onua had his shovel hands they'd both have the similar large hands.

In so much as they both have large claws. But one of these 70789-onua-shovelers_360w_2x.png?l.r2=1868239789 is not much like one of these 4652375.jpg

It seems a bit like you're switching the goal-posts here. You stated

If you had a shiloutted image of Chi Gorzan compared to a shiloutted image of Power-up Onua it would be very difficult to tell them apart.

Now you seem to say that the similarity is merely stylistic.

That said, any uniform building system is bound to have stylistic similarities, witness most LEGO System sets made within at least five years of each other. The fact is, Onua is not a clone of Gorzan, and substantially, he is different.

They also share specific attributes that are the same in a similar way to how Tahu borrows the leg design of Furno XL. Its just the same basic designs being shifted around and switched up occasionally,

As demonstrated previously, the only specific attribute they share is the chest piece. Everything else is different.

I was reading the Bionicle interview section of this months Lego magazine(only a fan of Constraction here, not system) and there was a concept for some rock-like beast with almost a alligator-like head. It has no resemblance to any of the current sets whatsoever. Summer hint maybe?

Not summer, as we already know what's coming. It's probably just a random concept art (2001 had Tahu vs a Frost beast that never made it to sets, etc)

You make a good point, but just for future reference one meter is 3 1/3 feet. The average human is 1 meter 80 centimeters. Could you clarify what you meant please?

Onua has the gearbox-centered construct on his back, which also supports his arms, unlike Gorzan's shoulder-supported arms.

I was trying to point out that the addition of new pieces is the only thing that stops the powered-up mode being much more similar, without the new additions then the sets would be very similar

Little odd that you converted stud sizes into meters... but ok. I was likely incorrect about the size proportions as i took apart CHI Gorzan for pieces shortly after getting him.

Onua has a large warhammer, not a mace.

I was referring to the powered-up mode where he has a mace that he gains from the Protector Of Earth.

In so much as they both have large claws. But one of these is not much like one of these

Was more on about the idea of large hands, general body proportions which i talked about. In which case they would both have bulky hands.

It seems a bit like you're switching the goal-posts here. You stated

Now you seem to say that the similarity is merely stylistic.

As my point about them has always been, its been about the similarities between the sets brought up after noticing the similarities between the LDD Skull Grinder, Tahu and Kopaka. I mentioned that some are stylistic such as Onua and CHI Gorzan, in that the exterior proportions are similar, not exact as you have pointed out. I also mentioned that some aspects are directly copied like the leg design for Tahu being from Furno XL.

That said, any uniform building system is bound to have stylistic similarities, witness most LEGO System sets made within at least five years of each other. The fact is, Onua is not a clone of Gorzan, and substantially, he is different.

What i was trying to start in this discussion was the question of whether if these sets hadnt included the new pieces would they have been more identical clones. If Onua had'nt included the gearbox would he have had the same body design as Gorzan? If he hadnt included the new shovel hand pieces would he have had the Chima large hand pieces instead to act as his claws? How much differentiation do we need to be able to say that one character is not simply another with a few small changes.

E.g. Do you view the protectors as clone sets because of several sharing the same body designs and masks or are the recoloured pieces and weapons enough to vary them?

Basically aspects like that, how much of the sets are duplicated and how much is varied and how much of the sets rely on new pieces? Are a few new pieces, minor changes or recolours all that seperates characters from being clones nowadays?

The two I mentioned were just the ones I was looking forward to the most. But honestly, they all seem to have something going for them. Slicer has four arms, Basher has purple, etc. The only one who doesn't seem to be very interesting is Warrior, but I feel that he's going to have something cool that we didn't expect.

The summer sets all sound very interesting (and some nice mockups also I must say - these villains definitely have me excited (and have inspired me to make some MOC-ups of my own)! I am hoping Trans-Red is used, it is a lovely yet underused colour and would love some bones/shells in the colour), but I have a good friend heading to the London Toy Fair on Tuesday and he's agreed to get somebody (if not him) to get a good look at the summer Bionicle sets (if they're there). I might be able to get some more concrete descriptions of the sets to back up what has already been mentioned, ahead of the Nuremberg and New York toy fairs coming soon :classic:
