Faefrost Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Bionacle returning? Interesting. I'm going to hazard a guess that the old shows are doing spectacular on Netflix? Quote
Mesonak Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 (edited) Hey now, there's nothing wrong with Dorek's extreme skepticism. This came completely out of left field and is such an abnormal case with Lego that it's difficult to ascertain what is rumor and what can amount to fact. Maintaining a skeptic attitude in regards to stuff like this is a surefire way to not be disappointed if it (somehow) ends up being false. that being said yeah it's totally confirmed Edited July 15, 2014 by Mesonak Quote
Dorek Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Hey, the evidence presented was sketchy at best; still is, in fact =P. Quote
just2good Posted July 15, 2014 Author Posted July 15, 2014 Did anyone notice that the exoforce.ru page no longer has the set list or the exposition on BIONICLE? Seems, at least to me, that this further confirms the legitimacy. If they are affiliated with LEGO, it would make sense for them to remove the names if they are in fact real. -Star Yeppers, and I emailed them a few days ago and they just responded a few hours ago saying that they can't disclose 2015 information. TwistLaw Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Anyway, even though it's been just two weeks since the whole "Bionicle Confirmed" discussion has exploded, it seems like a far longer time. And I really enjoy sharing all the new information with you guys, this is a fantastic community! (and since I'm coming from 4chan you should understand how pleased I am). Quote
Aedai Rivin Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Urgh... Reading the last ~20 pages, and seeing where people have jumped in without lurking enough. I don't want to seem like a hipster, but the average quality of the discussion goes down the more people are speaking, at least in this topic. I can sense the SJW oozing out of some posts, and I don't like it. On terms of gender balance, I think the two best steps to go forward would be: 1. Unlink Gender:Element/Color parity, and 2. Have a ratio of 2:1 Male to Female. It'll still be majority boy orientated, and the target audience (Boys age 7-13) wouldn't really care. They'd just grab their favorite color, the one that looks coolest, and/or the cheapest one. I propose that, of the remaining 5 male Toa, Pohatu would become female. Why? Both his hips and general attitude would fit a fine female. The "medium" and "large" Toa are probably only different in terms of like, $10 vs. $15. Can't talk much more now, but I'll update with more thoughts later. Quote
dviddy Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) I can sense the SJW oozing out of some posts, and I don't like it. Yeah man, I don't like people being concerned about representation in modern media either! And I certainly don't want to include female fans, like the one I live with and am nearing a marriage with, to be able to see herself represented in the most important media line of her entire life. Like, people outside of the mainstream target audience should just be glad we even let them talk, am I right? Edited July 16, 2014 by Darth Vader Quote
Dorek Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Regardless of the validity of his points or of yours, that snark is entirely counterintuitive and is precisely why we can't have meaningful discussion (and why BZP wouldn't even allow talking of it at all back in the day, if you'll recall). Nobody wins in this conversation. Quote
Bfahome Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 re: the list being removed, has anyone bothered checking to see why? It could be that they were asked to remove it… or it could also be that it was wrong and they took it down on their own. At this point there are definite signs of a new BIONICLE line, but "the evidence is now gone so it must be true" is not one of them. Quote
Faefrost Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 You all are bickering about the representation of girl robot Bionacle people vs boy robot Bionacle people? CONGRTULATIONS! This thread is more mind numbingly surreal than the debate over "why the Chima Eagle chick has a belly button and boobs? " Since I am something of a Bionacle neophyte, it having occurred deep within my dark ages, and like most Bionacle neophytes I find its lore at this point more than a tad confusing, could someone please explain how exactly one tells a boy Bionacle from a girl one? (Anyone answering "boobs and a belly button" will be beaten senseless... Or in this case sense full... Even if it happens to be true.) Quote
Bfahome Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 could someone please explain how exactly one tells a boy Bionacle from a girl one? Pronouns. There seem to be some pretty strong opinions on the gender ratio coming from people who say that the gender ratio doesn't matter. Quote
Dorek Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Use of feminine pronouns, as it were. I was going to say "female voice actors" as well, but I realized there's a few exceptions =P. Quote

Dorek, did you read my post that shows that the Russian source matches up with the set numbers (and visuals) on the second leaked image? That they both use the odd 770xx code? The image was blurry enough that on it's own it would be hard to identify the sets, but with the Russian info it became easy to match up the set element colour schemes in the listed order. You couldn't guess that. Seems like it would be an extreme coincidence. Edited July 16, 2014 by the last chronicler Quote
Faefrost Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Pronouns. In some ways that is mildly a relief. Given the deep, confusing and overly detailed lore of Bionacle I was fearful that they had already brought in the Bionagynecologists? Quote

Nobody wins in this conversation. Right. Parody, snark, and sarcasm have no place in the public sphere- invalidating ideologies that don't deserve respect is a waste of time and we should, instead, validate every single backwards and hurtful belief system. Sorry, no. Snark is not counterintuitve- it serves a purpose, and that purpose is to point out how dreadfully awful a comment is. "I don't like social equality" is a dumb statement. I'm not validating that. Some people seem to think the only valid conversation BIONICLE fans should really have is "which set is coolest" or "what character do you think was the most powerful" or "what is the coolest plot point", but actual criticism is both valid and important, and I will not let some backwards thoughts or misgynistic attitudes ruin that. I'm sorry you don't like the tone, but I don't like the message and critiquing one and not the other is ridiculous. Playing tone police just serves to validate ingorant behaviour, because it is almost exclusively used to shut down outrage and righteous indignation because for some reason people shouldn't be angry or passionate about lack of representation. The lack of female representation in BIONICLE is a mess. It is tragic. It is hurtful. And to say "this conversation reeks of SJW and I don't like that" is both priveleged and ignorant, and together those make a conversation that is hostile to those same people looking and asking for representation. People complain about adding more female characters to the canon or to the sets, and then complain when girls aren't interested in their hobby they excluded them from to begin with. Quote
Dorek Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) You're assuming snark is always valid, even though yours was an unnecessary and openly hostile verbal attack. Just because your point is right doesn't make the way you present yourself right as well. TheGreatSpirit Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) This thread went from regular discussion about potential leaks to tumblr-like arguing, mainly over the amount of females in Bionicle. bacem Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Why can't any spider-themed Bionicle set have a proper set of 8 legs part count limit, probably? Quote
the last chronicler Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) A "source" that appears several days after the numbers and is just a text-based list? Fakeable, if not necessarily faked. I thought we received the two leaked images, and the numbers and names came together from the Russian site? Okay, even if we accept that the names themselves are fake, I did the math and the chances of guessing names which line up perfectly with the 12 sets in the leaked image (a leaked image that was censored and therefore very few people have access to) would be 479001600:1. The only way they could have conceived of those names is through a conspiracy with TTV or their leaker. That website has been around for a long time and in a foreign language, which makes it ridiculously unlikely that they would decide to conspire with a small-time Youtube channel just for laughs. As well, who would put all that effort into making an extremely good fake leak just to blur it beyond comprehension? TLDR; TTV thinks he's legit, there's no conspiracy EDIT/TL;DR: based on the math I'm 47900160000% sure Bionicle is returning. Edited July 16, 2014 by the last chronicler Quote
Mesonak Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I WILL SAY THIS: Those at TTV that have had a conversation with the original leaker have not had any prior experience with him in the past. SUPPOSEDLY he has leaked stuff before but none of us have actually been privy to this information. Our faith in the legitimacy of the leaks stems from the conversation we had in regards to the fear of losing his job over the leak (the picture with the set numbers that strong attempts were made to get removed). Obviously not concrete proof, but we believe that the person is legitimate solely due to his emotions and mannerisms when confronted about the subject. TLDR; TTV thinks he's legit, there's no conspiracy Quote
