Leewan Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 And I noticed that Grinder has a bley or dark bley torso. I guess it's the largest size given the ECS (Exposed Crotch Syndrome..wait that wasn't supposed to sound so dirty). Nope, there's a shoulder balljoint visible (below this part), and the torso is visibly 7 modules wide, so it's the same as the Toa (except Onua, of course). And it rather looks white than bley. We'll just pretend I totally haven't started :U xD Also, could they upload the Lewa storyboard one? They seem to have Onua's in its place. Indeed, I didn't even notice. I've just asked. ;) Quote
wghost Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 (edited) I don't think we've had sets so universally reviled across the board since the Mistika. Let's reiterate the key word here: these images are PRELIMINARY. Things change. Just look at wave one this year... Or any other wave before, for that matter. It's a well-known pattern: preliminaries getting unfavorable critiques, finalized images/toy fair pics serving as a warming up period and when the sets are released, they are cherished by most. Nothing new under the sun. And by the way, I don't see any hysteria in the topic, just some disappointment. I don't think it's that unrealistic to want these sets to be on the same level of quality of the Toa. Disappointment tends to evaporate rapidly with finalized masks, printed pieces, better posed shots and some nifty PS (texturing, shading etc.). Edited January 23, 2015 by wghost Quote
Timeline15 Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 (edited) Yeah, remember the reaction to the first reveal of HF 2.0? My god. "this is the end of lego!" "Why is stringer evil!" Nowadays, you can be chastised for suggesting that ccbs is anything other than a gift from heaven XD Edited January 23, 2015 by Timeline15 Quote

Shakar Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Nope, there's a shoulder balljoint visible (below this part), and the torso is visibly 7 modules wide, so it's the same as the Toa (except Onua, of course). And it rather looks white than bley. Really disappointing. It's ridiculous how smaller sets are getting. This better be not 35-40 Euro, but I know they're perfectly able to do something like that. And I didn't consider that the bones would be white but it sure looks that way now that I think of it. Meh. Quote
Dr_Chronos Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 5 more days till the german toyfair right? hopefully the sets will look better then. Quote
TheGreatSpirit Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Yeah, because those two have SO MANY DIFFERENCES... like... just the mask? There was actually about 10 part difference; I'm not sure where those 10 parts went, but apparently it disappeared with the mask. Quote
vl_cn Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 People complain just to complain. To make things clear, I said I preferred the G1 story better. I don't hate the new sets at all, and I very much appreciate the fact that LEGO is reviving the BIONICLE theme back. However, I simply cannot deny that G1 story seemed better than what we're being given now. Maybe it's the absence of MNOG. Maybe it's the fact that Makuta is asleep along with Ekimu, in contrast to Makuta being alive in G1. Or maybe it could be simple nostalgia. People tell me how much G1 and G2 have in common, and I understand that. That very fact... makes it hard for me not to compare those two, And I personally prefer the G1. Quote
Grima Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 There was actually about 10 part difference; I'm not sure where those 10 parts went, but apparently it disappeared with the mask. A ten part difference on the box details, not the set itself; it's possible the part numbers were left over from an earlier prototype, because there certainly weren't any other differences between the preliminary image and the final Tahu. Makes sense for bones. I'm glad to see the thin torso in a different color than black, and it's nice to see more white bones. I hope we'll also get this torso in dark bley, though. Quote
Scarilian Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 I can understand the dislike of the bone pieces, other than bone pieces for the sake of bones, you cant cover them or attach anything so the piece has less uses as you cant give it armour. Though for those hating the sets i'd advise we wait till after we get updated images with more detail. Its possible the sets are very different from what we have here. Quote
Kingslayer Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Upon taking a second look I like these a lot more. I remember not being blown away by the prelims of the Toa, but I honestly think they are some of the greatest contraction figures we have gotten in the past 20 years. Im going to wait. Really love skull basher already. REALLY hoping that's trans pink, but it would seem like an odd choice, unless LEGO make it female(not saying pink is exclusive for females, just saying it would make the possibly odd colour choice make sense). I really hope that if these are actually characters we get at least one female. Not liking the red popping up everywhere. Its quite a bright and vivid colour to be a unifying one. Skull Scorpio is my least favorite as of now though. Wonder what those gold Toa masks will end up being, assuming they are just stand-ins. Quote
Grima Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Has anyone considered that the Toa masks aren't standins, and instead suggest these enemies will take the Toa's masks from them? I mean, it seems an odd choice of collectible to include with them when there are only four sets but six golden masks, but it's possible the enemies need the masks for something. I notice there are some elemental-colored flames around the forge-like thing on the MM vs SG box; maybe the golden masks are needed to activate the forge? Quote
Bigger Fish Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Could someone PM me these and the Ninjago pics please? Quote

Story wise it could make sense, but I don't foresee Lego re-using the same collectibles. What would be the point of including them if they're not special new masks anymore? Quote
Mandate Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Is Skull Scorpio meant to be some kind of joke? Like... how... Oh, and Skull Grinder uses Lewa's mask as kneepads. Or at least, it looks like Lewa's mask anyway... Quote

What would be the point of including them if they're not special new masks anymore? Well, I'm just trying to think, because I don't see why these would be stand-ins for, say, golden versions of their masks, because they obviously already have a model of their masks, because they're wearing them. Usually, a stand-in piece is for something they don't have modeled yet, correct? Quote

Not necessarily; these do have the MoCr logo on them, and are also notably the wave that includes it. It's possible they didn't have the design finalized, or possibly just the logo finalized, at the time the previous preliminary pics were made. Notably, none of the Toa had stand-in masks for their masks. Tahu's Golden Mask was preliminary, but so was the mask on his face. Quote

Kabootops Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 My only concern about those animations are the mask stands. Oddly enough I had a dream with those at Target. It was a pack of three, and I quickly shoved it in my basket. I woke up and realized it was only a dream. Do you think these stands could be on sale at one point? Quote
