Mandate Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 After seeing Grinder and Slicer in the closer-up pictures, I can appreciate them more (but not by much). Scorpio looks as bad as before, and the rest of them just seemed to have gotten worse and worse (Ekimu is terrifying) Quote
BrickBuilder3213 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Ekimu has trans-clear studs on his hammer. The green eyes aren't much of a problem now, but those studs need to be trans-light blue. Also, I'm looking forward to getting all of these sets. :3 Quote
CloverMaryam Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 I dunno if you guys caught this, but the Skull Warrior seems to have a damaged version of the Skull Grinder's mask, so it may be a recolored/reused mask, but it is damaged which I think is a really nice touch. Quote
Dorek Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 I'm fairly certain it's the same mold, just with a different color (which I appreciate nonetheless). Quote

Logan McOwen Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 My opinions have not changed, I still love them all except skull Scorpio. Quote
DraikNova Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Warrior clearly is lacking a portion of mask near it's cheeks, unlike Grinder. I for one like this more than the mask Grinder uses. It's absolutely perfect for fitting into the skeletal archer theme of the set. Quote

MakutaOfWar Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 I love how dark these sets look. :P It's definitely starting to open up more lore options to me. I'm so making a centaur moc for the skull(army?). Quote
Mandate Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 except skull Scorpio. Interesting fact: Skull Scorpio actually has, believe it or not, less leg articulation than LOSS. This is because his legs are attached by pins and axles (one of the two, or both. Either way there's less articulation) Quote
GK733 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Scorpio's function, colorcoded because it's not that simple. I'm not 100% sure of the top of the tail. Quote
Rayskull Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 (edited) My guess on Basher's function. Similar to what I thought, mega kudos for reverse engineering it Kudos to Lego for coming up with a unique function for some of these: four geared arms, articulated shoulders, scorpion tail and new unique shoulder builds using the gear box. My new challenge, squeezing that shoulder function on a Protector sized figure.... And making it look good. Edited January 30, 2015 by Rayskull Quote

The Kumquat Alchemist Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 My guess on Basher's function. That's the system I've been guessing at, too. I've managed to make it a bit smaller, using Dragon Bolt's wing base assembly and two of these Technic beams where the wings would have been. Quote
Aethersprite Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Nice work GK377, though I suspect there might be some mechanism that prevents the whole system to flop from side to side. Anyway, to digress, I bought all the Toa sets today! In one shot. I'm going to ration opening them - I tell myself 1 a week, but I'll probably end up opening one every few days. I built Onua first, and I'm really blown away. I love him. It's a pity the summer wave - regardless of whether we like it or not - doesn't seem to live up to the winter one. Hopefully the Star Wars constraction line makes up for this, and the 2016 sets of course! Quote
CloverMaryam Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Still, I'm really loving the vibe these guys seem to be giving off, even if they are lacking armor. Quote
JasonEffex Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 I really like all of these summer sets, especially Skull Basher. Sure, they all have downsides like Scorpio's lack of articulation, but as sets go, I think they're pretty great. Speaking of downsides, I just looked over the pictures for Slicer again and it looks like only one set of arms is geared, as he only has a black gear one one side of his gearbox. I can see this being disappointing for some but I don't think that it'll be too hard to fix. Quote
Bigger Fish Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 My guess on Basher's function. So... He comes with super hugging action!?! Quote
Logan McOwen Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 (edited) My guess on Basher's function. So, this pinches the arms in, correct? In a clapping/hugging/squeezing motion? I'll have a go at replicating this at some stage, and test it. Did it use elastic bands? Can't remember. And also, why the hell is everyone whining about these guys not having much armour? They're bloody skeletons, do you expect them to be beefy? Edited January 30, 2015 by LewiMOC Quote
TheOneVeyronian Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 (edited) I was looking at Slicer's chain weapon just now, and I just noticed something... I don't think that is regular Hero Factory claws on the end - it's trans-neon orange Skull Spider legs! I'm 99% sure it's them - you can see the end of Slicer's chain weapon in one of the pictures of Scorpio: http://i.imgur.com/hRXef8x.png All I know is that I am going to want a bunch of them. Iben Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 And also, why the hell is everyone whining about these guys not having much armour? They're bloody skeletons, do you expect them to be beefy? Simply because they're skeletons doesn't automatically imply they should lack armour. I can find numerous examples of skeleton warriors with beefy armour. These are good examples of skeleton warriors that are still clear and obvious skeletons, but still have quite some armour. It's just a matter of taste, more or less armour doesn't make them any more or less skeletal. -Iben Quote
Bigger Fish Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 I actually really like Scorpio's tail now that I got a closer look at it. Quote
