Mutant Orc Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 (edited) It would make sense if the super-blacksmiths who forged the masks needed for the Protectors to make Okoto habitable are nigh on indestructible. If they died the whole place would go to ruin and wouldn't be able to come back from it. At least if they're asleep they can be re-awoken to restore order. Scarilian Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 That's an interesting theory. But I rather think that the Mask Makers can "communicate" through the Golden Masks, and that Makuta controls the LoSS with the Golden Skull Spider Mask (the same way as Ekimu speaks to the Toa through their Golden Masks, Makuta would speak to the LoSS through the Golden Skull Spider Mask). Yeah, that could work. Only material we have on Makuta lists him as 'The Mask Hoarder' so i'm guessing he has varying masks that allow him to have multiple different powers, one of these being (as you said) the Golden Skull Spider Mask, if it is indeed canon in the story Quote

dviddy Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 (edited) Kinda off topic, but I just wanted to say, even though I agree with you on the other points you've made I think this is where you're wrong. As a stylistic choice it can work very well, and is one of my personal favorites. Here's a handy picture to illustrate it. Just throwing that out there. On the subject of the sets themselves, I think the armor placement makes sense. It just means they had armor on their shins and shoulders and not their thighs and forearms before the flesh rotted away. Think Roman soldiers. I was going to specify that in this context, the undead ancient warriors context, is what I was referring to, in which case the armour placement was a poor choice, but you mentioned it in your last part so I think it makes sense. Though I think your example of the thick to thin limbs isn't aesthetically pleasing, there is definitely s place for that look. Context in design is important. To clarify something: I am not saying these sets are perfect or immune to criticism. I think the orange does not clash nor look bad with any if the colour schemes, but as an accent colour it clearly is supposed to mean something and pull the eye towards that spot. But why? Since we don't know I am open to finding out before I decry it, but without context I agree the orange seems out if place. I also agree that representing 3D things like chains with 2D printings takes away from the personality if the print. I also agree that the new limb part, from an anatomical position when viewed as two seperate bones, looks odd as an upper limb. What I (poorly I suppose) was trying to say us that there are purposeful reasons a lot of these decisions were made, and we don't always know them, but every part and design is chosen to evoke a character. Pohatu, for example, has been mentioned as boring and simple and too short, but I honestly think his design evokes the desert scavenger vibe incredibly well and I think it helps define his personality as the rough and tumble scrapper with a friendly yet stubborn streak. Traditional fantasy and historical armours didn't cover the upper limbs the same as the lower, and lower coverings generally followed the shape of the limb, hence the skinny upper limbs and bulky yet tapering lowers. That is a design choice that makes sense. Whether it appeals to someone aesthetically is a different story and where I welcome criticism and comments and as a reviewer myself, where I try to find and follow. Not interested in trying to be hostile or cause some angry response in those comments, but I can see where folks may have seen them negatively? Edit: Oh dang three pages and a post from VBBN. Oops. Thanks mobile. :( Edited February 20, 2015 by Darth Vader Quote
Leewan Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 I think the orange does not clash nor look bad with any if the colour schemes, but as an accent colour it clearly is supposed to mean something and pull the eye towards that spot. But why? Each trans-orange armor has an add-on attached to it, so I guess it's supposed to represent the characters' armor, while the trans blue / bright green / neon green represent their actual bodies. The contrast between these colors might be there to emphasize the difference between the armor and the body. Quote

Dorek Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Small Club featurette on the Golden Masks. Nothing new, but some cool new pics, and reconfirmation of both Makuta AND the Mask of Time, go figure. What did you guys choose? Quote

Surprised that Jungle is third though (voted for it because I'm a Miru fanboy). Quote
Dorek Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Haha, I actually voted Ice, which is not something I usually do. But c'mon, the Mask of Fire is pretty cool looking =P. Quote

Aethersprite Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Just a random thought. I do hope the new skull masks - Grinder/Warrior's and Basher/Scorpio's - get names or powers, like the Mask of ___________. I really do dig their designs and I hope Lego won't just leave them as 'generic skull faces'. Quote
Bigger Fish Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I voted water, but it has the least number of votes. Quote

Ordinarily I'd say they were supposed to be just generic skull faces, but the teaser at the end of the magazine insert certainly makes it look more "mask-ish", so I think it's probable that we'll get some kind of power for them. Ikaatril Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Noted that it misspelt Toa as 'Tao' on the Mask of Fire slide. 'Tao Tahu', heh. Didn't know Tahu was that important in relation to the universe. Fire all the way because it has quite a few practical uses. Quote

Clone 01354 Productions Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I chose Mask of Ice! Man, if they made that mask in green.... Also, just wanted to ask two things: What do you think the odds are of BIONICLE getting a movie? I mean, they made The LEGO Movie, their making the Batman and Ninjago one, so I would really hope that BIONICLE gets the same treatment.....But, I guess it all depends on how sales are going. Quote

If we get a movie, i guess it would be after 2017. The animations will probably cover the story until 2017, after that if it continues we'll probably get a movie or a series. Personally i hope we get an animated movie in the current style... Quote
