I don't understand why we get them in sets. Most of the Toa have their upper arms in grey, and then black forearms, and it just looks terrible.

In sets from 2014 onward, no bone comes in both grey and black, and there is a system to which ones come in grey and which come in black. Specifically, odd-numbered A bones and even-numbered B-bones only come in Black, while even-numbered A bones and odd-numbered B bones only come in Dark Stone Grey. The reason is to make it easier to tell them apart. If all the bones were black, then it would be very easy for inexperienced builders to accidentally use a bone of the wrong size or the wrong type in a set, or for ANY builder to have a hard time finding a bone of a particular size and type in a pile of parts.

Just hypothetically speaking, imagine you have a hundred 4M A beams, a hundred 5M B beams, and a hundred 6M A beams, but only one 5M A beam. If they were all the same color, finding that one 5M A beam would be a chore — every time you pick up a beam you think might be the right part, it's much more likely to be a 4M or 6M A beam or a 5M B beam. However, with this system, only the 5M A beam will be black, and the other three types will be Dark Stone Grey. Even if you had other Black beams as well, you wouldn't be likely to confuse them for the one you're looking for because they'd be either a much different size (3M, 7M, 9M) or both a different size and a different style (unless, of course, they came from older sets before this system was fully implemented).

This kind of system is nothing new. Technic cross axles have alternated between black and grey since 2002, for the exact same reason: making identifying and finding the parts you need less of a chore. That system is a bit simpler, though, since it just has to differentiate between sizes instead of between both sizes and "A" and "B" varieties.

Here, you specifically said colour schemes that don't feature metallic pieces. By that definiton, the IFB beasts do not count.

Hey, guess what? I was referring to the sets, and said the word "sets" whenever referring to the IFB Beasts. So by that context, they actually do count.

And here you're pointing fingers at the majority of CCBS sets then getting angry when people give you examples of sets where metallic colours aren't part of the colour scheme, saying you never pointed fingers at them, when you pointed fingers at nearly every CCBS sets. For the record, IFB sets count as CCBS sets, therefore they fall under that accusation.

If you're going to point some fingers, give some solid examples and don't get surprised when people do give you examples of sets that don't have metallic colours in their colour schemes after you said that nearly all CCBS sets suffered from overuse of metallics.

1) I never got angry

2) Are these colors present in the sets? They therefore count in the statement "nearly every CCBS set has metallic colors in it". They may not count in the overuse of metallics at a singular level, but on a whole, they still contribute.

You want an example? I can't give you one because people have opinions. What's an overuse to me isn't to you. Sets like Fire Lord or Drilldozer, and Breakout Bulk (that might sound ridiculous considering silver is Bulk's main color, but gunmetal is the main color of that set) feel like they have needless overloads to me. And then there's sets like Ultrabuild Hulk that use metallics to give the appearance of armor when Hulk is rarely ever seen wearing armor, let alone that kind.

I'm at a loss at how you can say that how Gali doesn't have an overuse of metallics when she has an imbalance of gunmetal and silver, yet say that Onua has an overload when Onua has a lower metallic colour to non-metallic colour ratio than Gali does. Gali has gunmetal and silver, possibly the worst combination of metallic colours out there, with azure and transparent blue, not helped by yellow. If anything, Gali is the perfect example of a mess of a colour scheme. Similarly how do Lewa's knee piston attachments not look out of place? It'd be fine if they were gone, but they just disrupt the colour scheme.

Onua's is more blatant with his usage of both gold and silver. Piece count doesn't matter if the parts are huge.

And for the record, Gali looks amazing. She doesn't look like Tahu who has gold pieces strapped on for seemingly no reason, and she the colors aren't out of place like Kopaka's silver torso. Gali balances out her metallic colors by using the contrast of azure and gunmetal/silver very well. And frankly, Lewa looks perfectly fine. But what about Pohatu? Pohatu's burnt orange is almost (keyword: almost) the secondary color in the set.

Also, can we not call them Toa Okoto? What about just "Masters"......Or the Toa New-va?

I just call them the "Toa Masters". Not sure what else to call them, really.

No. The IFB beasts don't count, but you are not being consistent with your argument. You said yourself they don't count a page back. If one small minifigure torso attachment counts as an overuse of silver, then nearly every Generation 1 BIONICLE set overused silver too by having silver weapons.

You are coming across as very hostile and refusing to listen to others, especially in the tone of your text with phrases like 'Hey, guess what? Statement!'

You want an example? I can't give you one because people have opinions.

You know, your own view that metallics are overused is your opinion. Also, Onua is far less blatant with metallics than Gali is... all but one of his shells are black or purple. Only his piston attachments and claws/shoulders are metallics. Gali, in comparison, has only five azure shells and three transblue shells. If you looked at them, I cannot comprehend how you can come to the conclusion that Onua is more blatant whereas Gali isn't, considering her torso is ENTIRELY metallic and that. If anything, Gali is much more blatant with metallics, and for someone that says they are sick of metallics... that's kinda hypocritical. Like it was said a page back, I'm suspecting you're complaining for the sake of complaining, seeing as you are not being consistent and even accusing someone who pointed something out to you as a troll. For the record, disagreement with your opinions is not called trolling. That is something else entirely.

Just to throw in my opinion, I usually don't mind metallic colors, but all the silver hands and feet is kinda redundant. I think tahu would've looked better with black hands and feet, as it matches his skeleton better. And the silver torso on kopaka looks out of place. And pohatu has way to much silver. And I would've liked to see more blue on gali, but it's not a huge thing.

I think what we need is the piston add on in a bunch more colors, so we don't have to use either Metallica or white.

and one last note, elemental colored weapons were awesome and need to come back.

Heavy metal piston add-ons? I can dig that. Rock on.

On your second point, totally agree. Maybe some more stuff like Tahu's swords. As much as I hate those pieces, I love the sort of elemental core in the middle of them.

I didn't know you could use one of the most famous metal bands in the world in constraction building  Now I realise what I was doing wrong with my Linkin Park inspired figures, I should have actually used Linkin Park themselves instead. Okay I'll stop with the bad music/constraction related jokes

Jokes aside, I completely agree with you on everything. Silver hands and feet really get on my nerves.

WOW! All this talk about set colors is very diverse in opinions... Personally, the colors of these sets don't bother me. It's just a toy in my eyes, and I'm 19! Red axels, blue pins, Metallic, and "Clashing Colors" - I've learned to let these things go. These are aimed at Kids 7-14 yrs. old and do they complain? I'm sure most of them don't, so why should we complain? We should just have fun and play! That's what LEGO is mean't for... But of course this is just MY opinion.

Garrdus FTW!

The previous members who continued to argue in this thread are currently facing administrative action. Im not sure why hostile arguments continue to be an issue in this thread, but if I have to close it down while people cool down then I will have no choice.

The argument ends here, and I suggest everyone read over the site guidelines- becoming hostile, disrespecting others opinions, or going off topic are not recommended.

Thanks

I have to disagree. Elemental-colored weapons would blend too much with the set itself, and then there is no contrast between weapon and person. (When the Mata first came out, I thought their weapons were actually part of them).

I think what we need is the piston add on in a bunch more colors, so we don't have to use either Metallica or white.

Oh dear. The joke has more depth to it now.

In regards to color schemes, I do think it would be nice if the Toa had more focus on their elemental colors (particularly Gali; wish she came with more of those pretty dark azure shells), but I understand why TLG puts in so many metallic colors. While the colored shells are technically armor, the metallic stuff looks more obviously like armor. It's somewhat of a "buy me because I'm ready for battle" statement.

Does anybody think the Mask of Control will play a key role in the plot?

Certainly. It was one of the three that were scattered in Makuta and Ekimu's clash, so it's safe to assume that it's lolling about somewhere... As is Makuta himself, unless Ekimu destroyed him.

The silver hands and feet match the heads, though. That's part of why I like them. If anything bothers me about the Toa's hands and feet, it's Kopaka's hands. He's the only one of the Toa with transparent hands and I'm not entirely sure it works in his favor. White hands might have been better.

Strictly in terms of their skeletons, I think Lewa's colors are especially well organized. His "bones" alternate between black and grey/silver — his hands and feet are silver, his lower limbs are black, his upper limbs are Dark Stone Grey, his torso is black, and his head is silver. It's quite nice in my opinion, and I frequently use similar alternating colors on the MOCs I create on LDD.

Lewa's color scheme in general is organized rather nicely, with its three main colors (Silver Metallic, Bright Green, and Flame Yellowish Orange) spread out very well throughout the build. Of course, it's a bit frustrating that he is the only Toa without any transparent accents, and even though I haven't made any permanent mods to my own Lewa set, I have tested to see what he looks like with Tr. Bright Green in place of his Flame Yellowish Orange shells, and I have to admit it's one of the better-looking mods out there. The loss of contrast is offset by the flashiness the transparent shells add.

I honestly sort of wish that Gali's upper legs had been built with Dark Stone Grey 5M beams and friction joints like Lewa's instead of Black 6M beams. Not only could the extra friction be useful when posing her, but it would make the color blocking of her skeleton more consistent. But of course, her piece count is already higher than Lewa's and I believe the friction joints are a relatively expensive part to produce, so I can see why she didn't use them. She's still my favorite of the new Toa regardless.

oh dear. Quite the typo I seem to have made. I now have the urge to moc something and name it "master of puppets"

I guess I can see your point in the mata, but I think if done right it can look great. Take the glatorian for example, skrall and Gresh in particular. Some nice blades right there.

I see your point, but can't say I agree. seeing as 99% of the time a colored mask is on the head. And I agree that Lewa's color scheme is nice, as he has other silver parts. And I guess pohatu gets away with it too seeing as he has a bunch more silver shells. (A few to many IMO) It's just with sets like tahu or ekimu or the silver chest on kopaka that seem out of place to me.

I really like multiple metallic colors, my only problem with Onua's silver is that, in my opinion, it'd look better in gold (though not really vice versa). I love the silver in Gali and Kopaka, though.

Yeah, I think I said the exact same thing a while ago, I would have preferred to have seen Onua's silver body armour (not weapons though, they're fine as they are) be coloured gold. I can see why they chose not to include 2 colours of the same newly released part (the digging claws) though, but really there was little excuse for the HF shoulder pad on Onua's abdomen, given silver was a new colour for that part anyway.

I'm a bit late here, but anyway, I wanted to give my thoughts on the Toa too, since I recently completed all six.

When it comes to ranking the Toa, I guess my favourites are Gali and Kopaka (can't decide which one of 'em would be first though), with Tahu as a 3rd, Onua 4th, Leva 5th and Pohatu on the last place.

Kopaka got a very nice design (I really like his bulky shoulders), great coloration and cool features. My only gripe about him would be that his spear looks kinda underwhelming in comparison to his blade shield.

Gali has a unique build, a wonderful coloration where the bright blue and the gunmetal form a nice contrast, and it also helps that she has this wonderful axe weapon. The alternative to the axe is a bit so-so, however.

Tahu has overall a nice design with the gold blades and the large lava blades (I generally like how the gold is patterned on him), my only gripes about him are the shoulders and the silver feet and hands, as they really stand out on him due to having rather warm colors otherwise.

Onua would have probably worked better with one colour less, though I'm not sure which one should be dropped. I like his beefy design sans the arms, who look kinda thin unless he dons the claws instead of the hammer.

Lewa suffers from the TECHNIC bits necessary for the flight mode, and I still think his mask isn't that awesome (even though it grew on me since I own him). His colors and overall design are pretty neato though.

Finally, Pohatu ranks so low because his weapon is only awesome in theory, and the eye slits of his mask are annoyingly narrow. His colour scheme is solid though, and I really appreciate that his arms can rotate at the elbows - especially since this is something I use to incorporate into my MOCs, which constantly means I'm running low on the needed bone pieces, while I have a whole pile of the original upper arm bones lying around (not really though, being the neat freak I am).

It would be interesting if Makuta was laid in a tomb by the Skull Guys, just like Ekimu was laid in a tomb by Protectors.

But if the skull villains have been in the ancient city (where we know Ekimu is, right?), that would mean Ekimu and Makuta were buried very close to each other. If your theory ends up being true, of course.

As awesome as Pohatu's boomerangs look they are horrible when it comes to play. They break apart too easily. Funny because there isn't much more for me to complain about if it wasn't for the low price count.

Yeah, those boomerangs are just terrible. Floppy, oversized, weird (seriously, who decided to give him boomerangs that turn into jet engines?!)

Hmm.....I think I may actually like Skull Slicer more than I do Pohatu. At least Slicer has a cool function/weapons..... :sceptic:
