ToaDraco Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 (edited) I'm starting to wonder if Skull Grinder will end up being Makuta and this is his 'first form', before returning to full power later in the story or something when he regains the MoUP. He didn't get the special burial Ekimu did so perhaps his body decayed like the other skull villains and must be rebuilt using the MoC. Regardless I have little doubt we will eventually get a Makuta set in the future with the MoUP. Regardless, the more I look at Skull Grinder, the more I like him. He is such a bad@$$, heavy metal-looking bad guy. However, 'Mask Stealer Staff' is probably the worst name for a weapon I have ever heard. It is even less intimidating than the name Blue Eyes White Dragon. Seriously, I get that naming weapons isn't high up on the designers' list of priorities and I don't expect anything great for the names of weapons, heck the weapon naming and featuring in general is probably better than gen1 ever had, but-- wow lol. I actually don't mind that the skull villains reuse masks as the two new molds we are getting look amazingly sinister and there appears to be a cool story reason Slicer reuses a silver Skull Spider mask, unless the description is referring to the golden skull spider mask, after all it says skull spider mask, not skull spider. Even these small promotional descriptions add some nice potential for future story and world building, Skull Slicer in particular. Edited May 10, 2015 by ToaDraco Quote
MakutaOfWar Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 (edited) ^Well all departments of a figure add to the overall value, I would think the designers would have put more thought towards the weapon names, but I don't mind it too much. Besides, if the customer wants to change it then what's stopping them? It seems people like to mod the actual sets anyways. :P I do hope they add more to the sets selection then just Toa and bad guys in the future though, like Rahi and Matoran(villagers, whatever), and maybe even a character with a neutrality mentality, or something. I just want more to the story then just simplicity, but I suppose not as far out as Gen 1 got, because personally I don't even know allllll of the story. c_c Even though I've been a fan since 01'. But like I said, a barrier keeping people from putting their own modifications to something doesn't exist, I guess that could apply to the story. But I understand the people who are against that, I guess it's just my inner child talking. *Sigh* the care free days were good ones. Also, although I think Gen 1's story was overly confusing at times due to the vastness of it, I think it was easier to put a personal touch on it, like creating characters and storylines for example. But still, it's not even a halfway through the first year yet, and we have two books coming our way, so it must be my lack of patience writing this. XD Edited May 10, 2015 by MakutaOfWar Quote

I'm more okay with it now but it's still just really lazy. Think if one of the 08 summer makuta's shared mask with one of the shadow matorans in the exactly same color. I'm starting to believe that Grinder is enlarged decomposed Makuta too. He also shares some similiarties with Mask Maker build. Much longer torso compared to limbs than average toa. Large shoulder pads and on legs, in the same place where Ekimu has his. Those large feet that would be a must for a set syle Makuta MOC and the overall matching color scheme. Could be Makuta, could not. Quote

It would give some reason for the fight between Grinder and Ekimu. He is such a bad@$$, heavy metal-looking bad guy. If Grinder is Makuta, and Grinder looks heavy-metal.....#HeavyMetalMakutaVSFunmetalTakanuva2016Confirmed!! (You walked right into it..) Edited May 10, 2015 by LN-01354 Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 I highly doubt Grinder is going to be Makuta. Considering that Ekimu only got knocked into a coma, it'd be weird if Makuta actually got killed, and weirder still if he went from gold/purple or black/red to silver/black/trans-orange by way of being dead. And then got horns and new weapons out of nowhere. And somehow his head decomposed into a skull that's about twice the size of his actual head. And I think that's probably a good thing, really. People seem to be desperate to have one of the 2015 villains be ol' Makuta, but I think it would be better if they were their own entities, subordinate to him, but not a part of him. Let them have their own identities, not just be "Makuta in disguise". Quote
One Very Agile Cat Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Yeah, I like the idea of Makuta being saved for later. Took three years in Gen1 for him to get a set, afterall, and that story moved way faster. I would certainly like if he'd amass a legion of subordinates. Quote
GK733 Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Makuta didn't got killed by Ekimu. He got knocked out and possibly ended up dead because of the environment, fauna, whatever torn him apart. And then he decomposed into his current state. I'm pretty sure Makuta's color scheme later on will be Gunmetal/black/trans-orange. The silver is there because they are bones. Like skeleton bones. Not basic constraction bones. If this guy proves to be Makuta which is like 50% change. I'm pretty sure there will be a version where he has regained his ultimate form and power. A humongous titan in the pricepoint of 30 bucks. Skeletons tend to be smaller than the average human anyway. Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 You're still missing the part where his maskless face somehow doubles in size as it rots, and sprouts horns. If Grinder is Makuta, then that isn't Makuta's body. It's someone elses' being possessed. But they're not going to play Makuta this early. They'll save him for when the flavour of the day is the MoCo or MoUP. THis year's about the MoCr, which is only tangentially related to Makuta. Quote
MakutaOfWar Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I'd rather Grinder not be Makuta as well, but how do you all know Grinder's head is larger? Quote

The face more than likely appears the same underneath, probably not decomposed. The horns, though, are unexplained. Quote

Well, actually, The Avengers was summer of 2012, plus he was in GotG, so... a bit less than three =P (no the alleged Infinity Gauntlet in Thor doesn't count) Anyway, I'm on board for a "it was Makuta all along" twist, since really we all know he's behind it, so why are we putting it off? Nekchir Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Dunno how reliable this site is, but the release date of the summer sets is in July: https://www.wonderlandmodels.com/products/lego-bionicle-mask-maker-vs-skull-grinder/ But didn't lego officially say is was August? Quote

Nekchir Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 gWhat's the total amount of cash the summer wave will come to? Got to buy videogames too. Quote
Leewan Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 The four skull guys being 15$ each and Mask Maker VS Skull Grinder 30$, the whole wave shouldn't cost more than 90$ for the US. Quote
