Toa_Bomb Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 (edited) Thanks! I hope you enjoyed my videos. SCCCRRREEEWWWWW YOUUUUUUUU... Anyways, I'm new here but I've been following the discussion for the past 500 pages. :/ I think the Skull Villans are either draining the Masks of Power to fuel their evil desires or to melt the Mask of Creation to restore themselves, like the Barraki. Also, I think Skull Slicer's description means the Gold mask and it's just manifesting a silver mask on his face through the Dark Magic EDIT: Also, what's the difference between Titanium Metallic and (I assume) black, funmetal gunmetal, and/or silver? Toa_Bomb Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 *sigh* No. Got a problem? It's canon now. [insert deal with it dance here] Quote
Kalta the Noble Mind Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Well, on a species-wide level, some people would argue that the reason romance exists in any form (whether among individuals who can procreate or those who can't) is that having romantic feelings and being able to care for others on a deeply personal level strengthens our ability to support a population. In some species there's nothing romantic at all (as we understand it) about mating, so we know that our "human-ness" is part of what gives us the ability and inclination to feel romantic feelings towards others. It's not a huge leap from there to assume that we are genetically predisposed to feel romantic feelings towards others, and that this genetic predisposition came about through evolution. Even so, it's kind of irrelevant to G1 Toa and Matoran since no reproduction means no natural selection. Thus, unless you think romance is a net LIABILITY for the species that would force it into extinction (which is a remarkably cynical way to think of things), then there's no reason the Matoran couldn't exist WITH romantic attraction as easily as without. when exactly did GregF have that "no reproduction = no romance" rule put in place? was it after we learned that the MU was artificial/constructed and the matoran are more or less nanobots? if so i took that to mean that due to being an entirely artificial species matoran and the like would not have had any drive to form such bonds let alone pair up like humans would .especially after we learned that they come from factories fully formed making traditional child rearing unneeded. i think GregF missed a lot of clever opportunities that both quashed those hard questions as well add to the world and tying into the series' themes. like since matoran were built to be mere workers they could have been originally "born" in batches of six, enough for a worker cell or something. and that could explain why so many toa teams come in six, it's their version of Couples or a family unit which is why they call each other brother and sister. and that 6 point unity formed the basis of the first of the 3 virtues. what really got me is why in G1 each tribe was monogendered. was it an extension of the initial character lineup, like since they designated the water character female al water characters are female now? I think the monogendering was to help the kiddies. But then Gahlok, Gahdok, Gahlok-Kal, Guurahk, Bordahk, Boggarak, Krahka, Roodaka, Vezok, Takadox, Morak, Vamprah, Gorast, Female Makuta, Tarix, Berix, Nektann, Female Skakdi, and Orde happened. Edit: Also Maku's mask and Hahli Inika's mask how exactly? it simplified roleplay? like rather than designating a figure male or female they just need a blue fig for the female role? dint think the rahkshi and bohrok or visorak count, and i think the skakdi could fall under the same category as the first two species i believe were genderless constructs and i don't think the visorak were treated as gendered beings. and the skakdi i think were designed with the same "lack of gender" as well. but do agree with the rest as i think it made it easier for the story team to assign characters to toys. but from what i hear orde was brought in the worst way. he was essentially a cheat/copout for a contest that had two female elements in a serial and we still only got one female in nikila. and the explanation was incredibly insulting as it fed into two horrible gender stereotypes . agree with hahli inika but disagree on macku. i think the original G1 masks were fairly gender neutral which made them very versatile. and with the noble huna i think it was the upturned eyes and the pointiness of the mask that made it feminine for that character, like you can see that mask fitting for a perky young girl type character as well as the old wise priest elder for vakama. if i make sense. Leewan Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Remember guys, we have a topic for discussing G1. Also, what's the difference between Titanium Metallic and (I assume) black, funmetal gunmetal, and/or silver? Titanium Metallic is Gunmetal. Quote
Kalta the Noble Mind Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 ooh wonder if the revelation of the skull warriors give insight to the nature of the G2 bionicle characters:) are they biomechanical with 85% mechanical and 15% organics or vice versa? maybe these guys ar emore glatorian esque with bionics implanted hence why they could rot into skeletons. i think. Considering how G2 has unfolded so far, that's probably going to be "unnecessary lore that confuses the target audience". At this stage, I don't really care about it that much and it'd be a bit odd considering how most characters don't have proper names. Quote
Mandate Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 I just want a decent story explanation for the Skull villains. Eg, why one of them has four arms, why there's some with horns sticking out of their heads, etc... because those problems still haven't been resolved in a certain other LEGO franchise. And never will at this point. Quote
MakutaOfWar Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 ^Only one logical conclusion- Cosmetic Purposes. Quote
Lyichir Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Remember guys, we have a topic for discussing G1. Titanium Metallic is Gunmetal. Well, to be specific, Titanium Metallic is "gunmetal" from 2010 and later years. The previous "gunmetal", Dark Gray Metallic, was significantly less dark and had a warmer, almost olive-colored tint to it (rightly so, since it was introduced as a sort of metallic counterpart to the OLD dark gray). I just want a decent story explanation for the Skull villains. Eg, why one of them has four arms, why there's some with horns sticking out of their heads, etc... because those problems still haven't been resolved in a certain other LEGO franchise. And never will at this point. Considering Makuta is likely responsible for the "revival" of the Skull Villains, it's not unlikely that he rebuilt some of them for his own purposes—which would, incidentally, make him a bit more like the classic Makuta, who was by trade less of a craftsman and more of a mad scientist. Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 I think it's likely that none of them were the same species when they were alive, and they're not the same species now, they just work together and share some features. Quote

I always liked that side of him. Mask Maker Makuta is great and it's a pretty fresh idea (though G1 Makuta did have some traces of mask making skills on his own), but I hope G2 Makuta gets to show the darkest parts of his imagination in some way or another. The idea of him rebuilding/modfifying the Skull villains is awesome and creepy. I think it's likely that none of them were the same species when they were alive, and they're not the same species now, they just work together and share some features. I think this is the case, even the only parts that might link them together, their skull-like faces, are hinted to actually be masks (which might have powers on their own). Quote

One Very Agile Cat Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 ^Heh, yeah. Grinder's is the mask of grinding, Slicer's is the mask of slicing, Basher's is the mask of bashing, Warrior's is the mask of warring, and Scorpio's is the mask of being a crap set. I really hope in year two mask-specific powers come back. Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Mask of Warring would be pretty badass. "I. Vant. Vorld. Var. THREE!" Quote

The Outsider Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 ^No, you weren't. Not sure if anyone else noticed, but they fixed the text on the Region of Fire in the site: The Region of Fire is volcanic and fierce. Magma spills from the huge mountain ranges and run south forming broad, burning rivers that meet the Great Sea in huge, hissing clouds of smoke. The region is home to the Protector of Fire and Tahu, the Toa of Fire. Quote
