I'm not a minifig expert at all, but I don't think that's entirely true? In any case, it was a selling point of the actual book, and they've obviously been trying with the exclusives this year. Possible? You betcha. Probable? Well, your perception of that is likely where the disappointment will stem from.

Not a single thing listed on that page is a Scholastic or Ameet activity book. In fact, not a single thing listed on that page is an activity book at all. The only books listed there are the deluxe Dorling Kindersley reference guides which, needless to say, cost a lot more than any activity book of this kind.

The mask being a "selling point" is meaningless. The bricks and minifigures in these activity books are ALWAYS selling points, but not one of them has ever been exclusive.

Even saying it's "possible" is making some big assumptions about what kind of budget LEGO has to devote to a freebie in a $9 activity book. Sure, a lot of things are "possible" for a company LEGO's size, but that's not reason enough to shape your expectations around that possibility, especially when it flies in the face of all precedent.

Aanchir is referring specifically to Ameet's activity books. Those never come with anything exclusive. DK Publishing's visual encyclopedias and things along those lines do often come with exclusive minifigures, but that's a different deal (and company) entirely. So it really wasn't likely at all with this one.

Ah, I thought that some of them were also Ameet books. Oh well. I was kind of expecting the Trans-Orange Mask of Fire, since they often have a surplus of those polybags, but maybe they got their stock right this time.

But who would want a lone mask when they can get the ACTUAL SET that goes with it??????????

Anyone who wants more than one of that mask, for starters. Sure, most hardcore fans will get Mask Maker vs. Skull Grinder for its exclusive Mask of Creation... but if you had any sort of project that required more than one of that gold Protector mask, it'd be a heck of a lot easier to get multiples from a $9 activity book than from a $30 set.

Beyond that, the mask is not being sold on its own—it's packed in as a little something extra for buyers of an activity book. Activity books like this are popular with the target audience for themes like Bionicle, and a mask like this is a great incentive to take the plunge and buy the book whether or not it appears elsewhere.

Awesome to get confirmation that MMvSG does indeed come with a stand for the MoCr. I know we saw that at Toyfair, but I wasn't sure if it was just there to display the mask.

Anywho, they all look pretty good. Hope to see them in stores soon (didn't see anything on my outing today).

Hey guys, apologies for the delay, but I'm back with more photos! Clicky hereto see the full set of 56 photos!

Beautiful. Do you have any major complaints? How good are the functions?

Now send them to VBBN so he can review them

I was only going to get Skull Grinder, Skull Warrior and Skull Scorpio. But now I think I'll get the other 2 as well. I already have mods planned out for each of them.

Nice! It appears the new armour is just in Titanium Metallic (some of it looked Flat Silver on the boxart but guess it turned out to be lighting). I'm not sure how I feel about it now, it sticks out very far as opposed to "cupping" around the bone like many other add-ons do.

Now, hopefully on Monday I can get to buy these sets for myself, but in the meantime, I want to buy two of one of the £13 sets but having a tough time deciding which one to go for. Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking Skull Warrior - lots of the new parts in useful colours there and it has my favourite of the Skull Masks... but Skull Slicer has the trans-bright green bones though... I can't decide!

And alluding to the activity book, I'm rather sad to hear that the mask is just Ekimu's Protector mask. I'm really quite concerned that Gali's transparent mask is going to remain an exclusive that I'll never have and forever will my 2015 mask lineup look incomplete :cry_sad: I swear, if the only time it reappears (if ever), it's as an SDCC exclusive... :damn:

It's already confirmed that the Transparent Blue Gali mask distributed at the LEGO Inside Tour will remain exclusive. Only 250 were produced, 200 of which were reserved for distribution to Inside Tour guests and the other 50 of which were kept for internal use.

Now, whether there will be any OTHER type of transparent Gali mask release yet (such as a blended gold mask like the ones in the Skull Villain sets, or a Transparent Light Blue one, or who knows what else), we don't know, but don't get your hopes up for that particular one to get a wider release.

Thank you so much for the pictures! It is awesome to see these guys in-hand. Could you take some more photos of the new pieces, like the masks, armor, and weapons?

Yeah, I am going to wait unitl I get the armor piece in-hand to see if I will keep it for the reason that it is far too bulbous and bulky looking.

I would recommend Basher and Warrior. This means that you get all of the new parts and plenty of good pieces.

So far only the Skull Grinder calls out to me - Skull Scorpio, not at all (which is a shame because the combiner model with Grinder/Scorpio looks very good). I'll ned to see what the next wave looks like before deciding to commit to G2 Bionicle. I had collected almost the entire G1 line before I had to part with most of it, and was delighted with the inital Toa characters (apart from Onua). I'll wait to see them in person in September in the MK Lego shop before I decide whether to budget for them this time round.

Can we get a clearer picture on how Basher's function is built. I want to know just how far back his arms are set.

Here's a model that someone on here (sorry for not remembering who!) made, reverse engineered from Toy Fair pics:

Even though that's a rough idea, it should give you some idea.

Personally, the only things that interest me are the tr. green limbs, the skull torso shells and the new armor add-on, which has a nice claw-like aesthetic now that I see it better. I may pick up Skull Slicer, though, just in case those skeletal limb pieces turn out to be useful for MOCcing, which seems unlikely.

I improved it from that but didn't post here. https://40.media.tumblr.com/9ad58df44c912da615dec1a42e2fc39f/tumblr_no20lll5v41ti9evco1_1280.png Should give the idea, only things missing are the rubber bands, if there is any.

Bad news, I'm afraid! Just opened Skull Warrior (photos coming soon), and checked the back of the instructions. Looks like they're located at the same place as the other instructions but, obviously, they aren't live yet :(

Ah, that is unfortunate. Though congrats on getting the sets early. What are your thoughts on them now you've built them?

But who would want a lone mask when they can get the ACTUAL SET that goes with it??????????

I suppose those wanting to replicate the scene in the animations with the several gold protector masks spinning? Either that or those who just want extra duplicates of the mask to have a golden protector and an Ekimu figure.

Only one that screams out to me is the potential of beefing up Skull Grinder, hopefully when the instructions come around we'll get to see the combo models in set form and that'll fix some of the issues i have with the set. Though will be revamping them anyway when it comes to getting the Star Wars sets :3

Wow,that was sudden, and so early! Not that I complain.

The sets look pretty good. The trans colour+metallic colour(s) combination really pays off I think. The sets are mostly well designed, though I'm still not sure if I like the bones and the trans orange pieces. Otherwise, very creepy looking, and Ekimu looks quite regal.

But most importantly, I look at these sets and their box art and, despite the new building system, I think "Yup, these are Bionicle sets". And despite them not being flawless, that's what counts. Bionicle is back, and that's great.

I'll probably add some more in-depth thought later.

Well, I caved in and went to Watford, and came out with one of each new set! I was going to buy two copies of Warrior, but I then saw the Ant-Man set and decided to buy that over a second Warrior.

For now though, I'm going to go and build them all and then do my planned modifications to them (the random trans-orange is definitely going!), then probably start a Skull Villain mods thread (well, why not? We have ones for Toa and Protectors).

Nice! And some of your photos descriptions are really hilarious (especially the last one).

What about the instruction comics?

I'm not Fatoran, but I've scanned the comics in the instructions for you and anyone else interested

70791, 70792, 70793, 70794, 70795

Also, if you fancy talking modifications of the Skull Villain sets, I've made a topic for it. It's here.

If those comics are at least partially canon, it seems that Skull Grinder wants to destroy the Mask of Creation... interesting, I'd say.
