Timeline15 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Pohatu looks like he has gold running up one arm, but that could be a trick of the light, and the tan you talk about on lewa looks gold to me (though it looks orange on the defender). Quote
Shakar Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I think it's a lightning trick on both, yes. Defenders feature no gold at all, so I think that tan/gold is actually the green sets' secondary colour, just like purple for the Earth guys. Remember it's apparently Jungle/Plant now, not Air, so that colour scheme could be there to make them look like plant beings (just like Tahu looks like a fire entity). Quote
Dorek Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Oh, underneath Onue's gold plates. Possibly. I would assume the gold on Pohatu is actually gold, since I can't see any other gold, and we wouldn't want to break motifs =P. But then, not all of the Defenders have gold... Quote
Timeline15 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I doubt Lewa's element has actually changed. These are preliminaries, so the person writing the set listing may have just seem the jungle-y background and written what he saw. For the same reason, I suspect the "defenders" may end up getting other names. Quote
Zenerius Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I suspect the "defenders" may end up getting other names. Perhaps they used those generic names and similar masks because they would be randomized matoran, like Aanchir thought? Quote

Shakar Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I find it hard that "Air" can turn into "Jungle" in Russian, though. Some elements were translated in a not exactly accurate way but were close enough (like Onua's being Land), the other ones were perfectly translated. Don't get me wrong though, I want Lewa to stay as the Toa (or Master, lol) of Air just as much as you guys do. And, Lewa prominently features silver. I doubt they'd put gold and silver in the same figure... did you not notice the new torso armour on the defenders? look t the fire one. looks new to me :) Actually, I think, that piece is the Toa' shoulder armour piece. I like it, it's kinda similar to the Nuva shoulder pads. Quote
Timeline15 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 These are the people that gave us voltix. All bets are off regarding colour schemes XD. btw, I wasn't suggesting that jungle was a mistranslation, rather that the actual names weren't given, so the were improvised based on what was seen on the boxes. VBBN Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Small spider enemies again? Really? The second wave better have some awesome villains or I'll be extremely disappointed in this big new debut wave, at least as far as enemies are concerned Still reserving judgement until clear photos, but I like the look of the recolors I can make out so far. Chro Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 But early to be thinking about that! It's not even fall yet! Hey, maybe not... there was something going on back in January that (as far as we know) never went anywhere, but the very fact that TLG was asking for people, well... Quote
Evex_Wolfwing Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Is it just me or did they give Pohatu boomerangs? Quote
Takanuinuva Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 (edited) I'll be honest. I had my doubts. But see this leak in color. I'm now aboard the with the Hype. With the defenders all having the same mask. Remember with the first leaks of the winter Invasion from below sets they all used the same preliminary artwork and Evo XL machine used Rocka's helm. So since these are prelimaray as well the finalized defender sets may have different masks. I hope they reuse the Brain attack heads in new colors to attach the masks to. I want that head piece in more colors. I'd hope this ends up as reboot. I wouldn't mind a continuation though. I will get all of the Mata though they will be modded a bit to be more like there 2001 versions. Such as Onua with claws, Kopaka with a shield. Etc Edited July 25, 2014 by Takanuinuva Quote
Still Raindrop Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Well, I guess now we know for sure why they're called skull spiders (or whatever can be badly translated as such)! Quote
Shakar Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 You know, since the golden mask Tahu is trying to grab has an open mouth hole...I'm going to assume the new masks are keeping the helmet-style connection. Quote
exxtrooper Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Pohatu looks like he has the stormer drone pieces. Quote
Zenerius Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 You know, since the golden mask Tahu is trying to grab has an open mouth hole...I'm going to assume the new masks are keeping the helmet-style connection. That banner at the top is made in CGI, so it could just be the artwork. Also, these are preliminary images. Quote
arc Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 You know, since the golden mask Tahu is trying to grab has an open mouth hole...I'm going to assume the new masks are keeping the helmet-style connection. I'm hoping they don't do the helmet style heads for the mata. It kinda worked with the glatorian style, but I can't see it working with the mata's flatter face masks. Quote
King of Nynrah Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I think you guys are forgetting that we've had "skull spiders" in Bionicle before... Quote
toatyger Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I it just me, or do some of the defender sets have silver small beast feet? I hope so, because having those in more colers would be awsome! Quote
KazeMonsuta Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Man, Onua is ripped! The Akaku, Hau and the Pakari look very much like the original masks. The others are hard to make out. But no matter how they look, I'll just buy all of them in the end. Nostalgia kicked me. Pretty hard. Tahu has his lava board, he would have gotten as a Nuva, so maybe we skip them with this reboot. And the facehugger-Style villains just do it for me. Just make them like the Bohrok. Be evil to everyone, but have a greater purpose. No mean Rahi, please. And the "Defenders".. or do we already call them Matoran? I don't care about the masks being the same. The Bohrok were only different in their shields and until 2007, most of the sets were terribly similair. This is such a fresh wind. Aaaand, all those Hero Factory pieces I have collected will actually prove to be usefull. Just got Chi Cragger for olive green bone pieces and hands. This is the best thing this month for me. Quote
Aanchir Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 (edited) Is it just me or did they give Pohatu boomerangs? I think you're right! Awesome decision in my opinion. I wonder what prices these will be. I guess defenders are $10 and Toa are $15? That seems consistent with their relative sizes and recommended age range. I was sort of hoping for $5 Matoran sets, but I guess this is more consistent with what the LEGO Group has found sells best. Edited July 25, 2014 by Aanchir Quote
Quisoves Pugnat Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 (edited) It's nice to see these up close and in color. While I don't like the style as much as I liked the original Bionicle's, I still think it's good. Preliminary masks or not, the defenders are the ones that I find the most impressive. Mind you, they're less obscured, but even so, I find them very appealing. And it indeed seems we are getting more purple-on-black. Yay! The Toa are neat looking, from what I can tell, though, with the exception of Lewa and Pohatu, somewhat unremarkable. I can't see the Lord of the Skull Spiders clearly enough to make much of judgement. The Skull Spiders, combined with the background art, give me the impression that LEGO is returning Bionicle to a more tribal, natural feel, which leads me to an overwhelming question: Will this iteration of our beloved theme be a "biological chronical," or will it be simply "Boneheads of Voodoo Island?" EDIT: Oh, and that face with the red-eyes. Very Makuta-like. I do hope that it's someone else. I liked the character, but I think that he should be put to rest. Unless this is a reboot, which still seems unlikely to me, given that Bionicle's original story-engine is open-knowledge. LEGO kept it secret for so long for a reason. Objectively, it's not a problem, but since LEGO wanted to surprise fans with it, it seems rather a one-trick pony. Edited July 26, 2014 by Quisoves Pugnat Quote
Bfahome Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 I hope this means people will stop calling that thing an Avsa. Quote
TheBatstan Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Damn, Onua 's been lifting! I just bought a ticket aboard the Hype train! Quote
