I'm not sure why that's a really big deal. But in any case, the winners of the Mask of Stone, Mask of Water, Mask of Ice, and Mask of Earth have all shared pictures of them to the LEGO Bionicle Facebook page (scroll down to "posts to page").

This pic is probably my favorite! But I'm a bit biased there — Gali is my favorite of the new Toa, after all!

I think the idea is that people want the winners to be actual fans of Bionicle, whether they be new fans or old, so that we can see more pictures of the mask and know it is in good hands. I know one of the winners was boasting on facebook about how they were going to sell it. I suppose most the community would just prefer that the more rare aspects of Bionicle be in the hands of the community who know how to care for it.

Currently only one winner seems to be active in the community from what MonkeyChud mentioned, so there is the possibility that with some of these masks we may never see or hear about them again, which from a community standpoint would be a great shame. Personally i dont mind whoever wins doing almost anything with the masks, but i feel it'll be a loss if they were lost or sold or just if we dont see more images of the masks and them being worn by their respective Toa.

The contest wasn't built around old fans but the new. What you can expect from a kid who shows a legit certificate to their parents that mentions word "14-Karat Gold". Said kid would possibly enjoy more of the actual sets than a piece of gold. It's not like most of the 14-Karat Hau's disappeared too back in the day.

There's still that MOCr. If it's not given in this running year it probably be just kept by the designers But as there's an actual set involving around the mask I find it hard to believe that the gold mask wouldn't be involved. It's only been half of the year anyways.

Seen some names and set numbers floating around recently that correspond with a rumored 4chan play testers reports that were mentioned prior. Not sure how legitimate they are, currently skeptical on them myself, however given we received names and images around this time last year thought i should share just incase;

70890 Ghost Crawler

70891 Ghost Striker

70892 Ghost Crusher

70893 Ghost Sleeper

70894 Ghost King

70895 Mask Hunter

Not entirely sure the policy on leaked names/numbers... hopefully sharing them is fine, if not i'll remove them

Yeah, true. It would probably be better honestly if they ebay'd the masks so they could wind up in the hands of a collector, just so a few years from now we can see someone displaying all the collectibles together.

Just plausible enough to be believable, but probably fake =P. Ghosts would be a neat enemy, though, since there would be gitd parts and they would be glorious.

Yeah, i agree they are probably fake. Just wanted to share them just incase as it may help people find them :P A ghost line could be a good way of keeping with the undead theme and allow them to re-use and introduce new skeletal pieces though.

Apparently the source told them Bionicle would return 2 days before the Bionicle Winter leaks appeared online, along with a few other things though they were not too specific. Personally skeptical of that and the information provided now. Though wanted to share the names and numbers, as if real, it may help people track down information on the new sets when they arrive online - plus i'm personally anxiously awaiting images of the 2016 sets.

Well, Ninjago is doing ghost ninjas this summer so, wouldn't be surprised if they redid the ghost thing with BIONICLE next year.

Plus, skeletons, ghosts, maybe zombies in 2017. Horror villain tropes.

I haven't seen anything from that guy before, so unlike the Skull Villain leaks where the guy posted lists for every theme, I'm going to have to call fake on this one until further evidence.

(pretty plausible though)

Ghosts in Bionicle too? While I doubt this is legit, I hope that, if these are real, they use actual glow in the dark. Perhaps blended with elemental/translucent colors. If they use more horror villain tropes in Bionicle in both 2016 and 2017, I don't want to see zombies in 2017. Skeletons are too similar to zombies. Perhaps half-animal villains could be used, although I do hope they introduce more actual wildlife first. And now, of course, I'm imagining a were-Tarakava.

So I got Mask Maker vs. Skull Grinder today. From some random Toymaster in Norwich, which had the whole range. If they're there, they must be all over the UK.

Ekimu's pretty hype, and Skull Grinder looks pretty badass. However, I do have a few beefs: The chin of the MoCr is just long enough to limit his neck movement, and both are lacking in limb length, something I've been able to fix on Ekimu, though not on Grinder due to his limbs.

Could've got more (Either a wave two, or the two last Protectors I haven't got), but I have to keep money for the Smash 4 DLC.

To keep on the 2015 topic and 14K gold mask; People just need to grow up! Yeah it's a little disappointing that others haven't been posting pictures but you guys gotta understand: THE WINNERS CAN DO WHAT THEY WANT WITH THE GOLD MASK. It's their property now and they might just want to keep to themselves. Also this contest was aimed at younger kids and I'm sure that their parents shall keep watch over something this valuable. Trust me I know, my parents done it for me. Just get over it people! Sheesh! Sorry just needed to vent and throw my two cents in.... again sorry.

It is it just me, or does all these 'leaks' have ghosts in common? Lets just assume for a moment that that guy who supposedly got those names didn't know about the individual who, again, apparently saw a kid play-testing the future sets.

Could it be just a big coincidence? Yes. Could he just be riding that bandwagon in order to trick people like us? Yes.

Ghost in the CCBS Shell, eh?

Also it's possible, the other leak mentioned 3 large sets, and 4 medium, right? One being Ekimu while the other two were villains. Who knows though.

Even if we ignore all the other hints at this list being fake, how plausible is it really that we'll go an entire additional wave without any new hero characters? By the time the 1hy 2016 sets are released, the 2015 Toa and Protector sets will already be on their way out, meaning Ekimu would be the only widely available "good guy" at that point. I find it incredibly unlikely that the LEGO Group would let that happen.

And if this list is in fact supposed to validate the "leaks" from that supposed playtester, then why are other sets they mentioned like the new Toa and the new version of Ekimu not even mentioned? I can't fathom why the person who supposedly saw this "leak" would not have gotten a complete list? Unless they were trying to insinuate that the new Toa would be released in a later wave. As mentioned above, that's unlikely. The 1hy2015 wave would need to fill a vacuum left by thirteen sets leaving the shelves, so why would it only include six sets which, as villain sets, would be far more redundant than new hero sets?

The set numbers are about the only thing that's remotely plausible here, since set numbers can't really continue sequentially for very long after Mask Maker vs. Skull Grinder or they'll run up against the LEGO Movie set numbers (70800–70819). But we've got an undisclosed source (we're told by the person who made the original post that they've been right before, but not what they've been right about), a range of characters that seem almost purposefully redundant, and a theme that seems to be based strictly on an equally dubious "leak". Maybe one of the "leaks" might turn out to have some authenticity, but for right now I see no reason to give this rumor the time of day.

On a separate note, cache.LEGO.com has hi-res summer set pics.

Is it possible Lego could be concerned about releasing a new wave of Toa so close to the old wave going out of retail? Especially if they are the same characters just in new forms. Alternatively they may want to pace it so they have more to vary the new wave of Toa from the previous wave, releasing the new forms of the Toa next summer will mean they'll have sold as many of the old toa versions as possible and will give them more time to design/make/introduce new pieces?

As mentioned above, that's unlikely. The 1hy2015 wave would need to fill a vacuum left by thirteen sets leaving the shelves, so why would it only include six sets which, as villain sets, would be far more redundant than new hero sets?

Possibly we could see a more expensive selection of sets similar to the price ranges for the Star Wars CCBS sets - that could explain the lower number of sets being released as Lego tends to keep the total for each wave to a certain amount. Its also likely the Bionicle sets for 2016 winter would be in competition with both the late 2015 Star Wars CCBS and the Winter 2016 Star Wars CCBS so they may limit the selection to enable fans to get both at an affordable level.

Though yeah, as you and others have said, it could be fake and probably is. I'm still remaining skeptical, but will keep an eye out to see if these names or anything else appear.

Personally would hope for Vampires to be honest if they were going with another undead theme. As others have mentioned Skeletons seems similar to Zombies in terms of what sets it could provide, though i suppose it could introduce a lot of cool half-masks.

Cool :3 Wonder if these means a site update is close

Yes that's what I thought when I saw it too, that it'd be very very surprising if it were true as 2 waves of villains back to back seems a bit silly.

Assuming all the leaks are accurate then Mask Hunter is almost certainly Ekimu. In his original form, his role is to create masks. As a Toa, his mission is to hunt down masks before his brother can claim them.

Notice that that release pattern was abandoned completely after 2005, with subsequent sets alternating between heroes and villains (or featuring both in the same wave). I think Lego did that deliberately due to the nasty side-effect of having heroes entirely absent from the current range of sets.

Guys, on the LEGO product page Bionicle has shifted places, think we might get an update on the site here soon? If so, I really hope they improve the site layout.

EDIT:

False alarm, for some strange reason my reigion on the LEGO website went from US to Great Britian, though I'd still keep the F5 key ready. Especially since the cache updated with those pics.

True, ever since 2008 waves have had a mix of heroes and villains in any given wave, which continued into HF, and new BIONICLE is no exception. Then again, with the desire to emulate past years, I wouldn't put it past them entirely; this year has a fun flip of "all heroes + one villain" in the winter and "all villains + one hero" in the summer.

Note that even 2005 was only in some markets. The weird villains in one part of the world and heroes in the other that year was the only reason this happened.
