wghost Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Looks like they're offering an exclusive mask to promote the weakest set of the year. U talkin 'bout LoSS, right? Jokes aside it's pretty subjective of course, but I haven't seen such a hideous-looking set with such a boring and ineffective function in a long time. That chestplate print is just no. Quote
TheOneVeyronian Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Well, there goes any chance of me having a complete Bionicle 2015 collection I guess I can't pay SDCC exclusive prices. Makes me feel less bad that I didn't get the trans-clear Hau now though, but it's a pretty cool mask nonetheless. Quote
TwistLaw Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Since I've often read people whining about the scarcity of new names in G2, while other people said it made it easier for parents and other adults to remember the names, I have one important thing to point out. Not everybody understands english, at least in non-UK Europe and Asia. And sadly the new Bionicle are sold there with their english names, which sound meaningless as much as Pahrak or Keetongu to the average mother. So I'm quite sure when I say that names, while useless most of the times, are a great gift to fans without hurting anybody. When I wanted Suukorak I just told my mom to go buy me the white spider, and guess what she made it! Quote
MakutaOfWar Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 (edited) ^People might argue that those regions are the primary targeted market. I'm not saying that, I'm just a consumer, but others might state that. On a side note, got my magazine today. :D A whole two pages of Bionicle. Mmm. Edited July 7, 2015 by MakutaOfWar Quote
Dorek Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 They just uploaded the digital version too, good stuff. Quote
Kalhiki Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 That mask... I may have to buy one once someone inevitably sells theirs. The Trans Neon Green Miru was one of my favorite masks back in the day. It'd be nice to have this as a sort of homage to that. (aka, nostalgia's forcing me to want this) Quote
Darking Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 I was taking a look at the instruction manuals for the summer wave, and I noticed that both Skull Warrior and Skull Slicer have this piece attached to their torso bones, which Kopaka also had. Does anybody know what's its function there? It's also interesting to note that on each skull baddy the piece is attached on a different side of the torso bone, which may mean that it has a different purpose in each case? Quote
Vinyl Scratch Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Just realized, Lewa has the arm blade things backwards. Quote

Noticed this too and it's still total mystery for me too, disassembled my Kopaka and put him again but didn't find any reason to put the piece back. Thought it would interfere with warrior in a way that his chest place can't be pushed invards, but it still leaves 1 stud of space there so I have really no idea. Quote
TheDesuComplex Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 The best option I could think of is that it is either an extra piece to bolster parts counts a tiny bit,but it is a better idea to think that it is a sort of building guide to keep kids from putting the gearbox too high? Quote

It may be, but I fail to understand why they didn't receive at least a german translation, and I think nobody here has a doubt that Germany is LEGO's #2 market, almost for sure as far as sales are concerned, without a doubt as long as brand history is concerned. Leewan Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 it is a better idea to think that it is a sort of building guide to keep kids from putting the gearbox too high? Absolutely. This part is simply here to prevent the kids from making mistakes during the build (at least on the Skull guys, because you can still attach Kopaka's gearbox one module higher if you want). I fail to understand why they didn't receive at least a german translation Didn't they ? The names have also been translated in french, and slightly modified in italian (only MMvSG's name is translated). For Spain they did keep the english names, though. Quote
VBBN Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Not thrilled about the exclusive mask, I don't really like using much trans parts in MOCs so I don't really feel like I'd get much mileage out of it. Doesn't help that my least favorite trans color is trans neon green. I felt the same way with the clear Hau, as cool as it is, I'd totally have taken a different solid color or even a red/green or gray/brown mixed one any day of the week. Quote

Germany is actually the company's primary market for total sales. It outsells all other regions in total sales. Not percentage, but actual sales. North America is second. THAT SAID, the primary market for BIONICLE is indeed North America. And Hero Factory became Russia as the line went on. Quote
Quisoves Pugnat Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 (edited) And Hero Factory became Russia as the line went on. Interesting. Was that due to some particular appeal over there, or did the line simply not sell as well elsewhere? Edited July 8, 2015 by Quisoves Pugnat Quote
dviddy Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Interesting. Was that due to some particular appeal over there, or did the line simply not sell as well elsewhere? I don't know. During the ramp up to last year's NYCC event, we talked a bit with some of the LEGO employees in charge of promoting the lines, and they sort of off-handedly mentioned that Hero Factory had become the best-selling theme in Russia, and that Russia's HF sales were higher than anywhere else. They seemed as baffled by it as we were. It's actually the reason that LEGO Russia sent a delegation of RUSBIONICLE fans to NYCC with LEGO Russia's money. They wanted to ride that popularity into BIONICLE 2015. Quote
Logan McOwen Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 >exclusive mask >its for the worst set But yeah, hey, it's super cool. Quote

For Spain they did keep the english names, though. The names were also translated in Polish (not in the website, but in the catalogue). However, my main complaint about the non-unique names is that the translations suck. Seriously, they translated Skull Basher into "Strażnik Czaszka", which basically means Guardian Skull. No, not Skull Guardian, but Guardian Skull. And there's no consistency between the names (like in English they all have "Skull" at the beginning), like each of them was translated by a different person. I mean, I haven't seen that problem in other languages (well, I may be wrong, 'cause I only looked at the German translations :P), but still - problems like that have never existed in G1, when each character had an unique name. Kinda noticed too, but it's not that bad. Made think of why my language even calls skull as pääkallo (headskull) and not just "kallo" possibly it's too similar to kallio (peak, cliff) So it's like headskull warrior (pääkallosoturi), headskullscorpion (pääkalloskorpioni) the rest are verbals like kallonleikkaaja (skull cutter), kallonmurskaaja (skull crusher) and kallonjauhaja (skull pulverizer and don't use the word pää/head. Kinda odd that only the two confirmed as hordes are translated that way. Edited July 8, 2015 by GK733 Quote
Scarilian Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 So, been wondering, does Okoto have any landmarks or locations detailed yet? Wondering how much we know about the Island before the Summer wave Quote
Mandate Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 (edited) So, been wondering, does Okoto have any landmarks or locations detailed yet? Wondering how much we know about the Island before the Summer wave Temple of Time, Ancient City, the "Greatest Volcano" and a bunch of generic shrines. If you're looking for particular places, there's the Forge, the crater where Ekimu and Makuta fought and uh... yeah that's basically it. Edited July 8, 2015 by Mandate Quote
Mutant Orc Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 My Skull Slicer, Skull Warrior and MM V SG arrived today. They're all rather nice with their trans colours and designs, but there is of course room for tinkering and improvement. Ekimu is alright but I'm not really bothered by him. I'll probably just rebuild him closer to the design of one of the better protectors and use his gearbox and that for mocing. Quote
