Frozen Assasin Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Nah, we're all Bionicle fans. -tahu_nuva- is for sure and he doesn't like HF as far as I know. Can't say for Sergey Degay, he gave us a lot of reasons to hate. He became a *fan* as soon as he got an invitation to NYCC. Well, БДЖ is something most don't get at all. It was made of two different sites, and there's still nothing but a forum. I can name only one AFOL there who's still active, Lehvak. Well, yeah. Some of us are surely mlp and warhammer fans. Not me, though. I drink vodka, play the balalaika and count topol m's in my basement. :P Go fight Stallone, Ivan Drago. :-) Oh, I don't see anything bad or humiliating in inviting fans of BIONICLE as fans of HF. Both of them are Action figures. More, BIONICLE transformed into HF in the past and then HF transformed into BIONICLE again. But I believe that Rusbionicle AFOL was invited because of word Bionicle Nah, they were invited to not discriminate us.And even then , there were better people from the Russian Community to invite. Nekchir Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Us Russians are discriminated against in the Lego community all the time. Quote
Mutant Orc Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 (edited) I've noticed when looking at the friction joints in these new sets that the inside part is black now rather than transparent, which makes me think how silly it is that they haven't recoloured the rest in black as well. Not that it's a bother with these characters due to their silver and grey intensive colour scheme, but when building with a non grey style it'd be nice to have black ones, such as on Onua and maybe Kopaka and Tahu too. Seeing as they've phased out the short upper leg part it black though and are only making it in dark grey for several reasons we've discussed in the past it's probably not going to be made in black at all is it? Especially seeing as there have been several opportunities to do so that've been missed. Edit- I've been messing around with making some mods to Warrior, nothing impressive or groundbreaking of course, and I'm finding that this new armour add-on is a right pain. The shape and size is rather awkward, so it's not my favourite at this stage. I think I prefer the piston add-on that the first wave introduced Edited July 10, 2015 by Mutant Orc Quote

Like, in a month? As far as I know, it roughly goes like this: August- first rumors and rumblings September- concrete rumors October- early leaked pictures November- better leaked pictures December- actual lego pictures January- release (in some places) Remember that getting the leaks so early last year was an anomaly. In G1 didn't we get pictures as early as late august? Even during HF we had pics by september. Quote
Nekchir Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 I'm pretty sure we're going to be seeing the 2016 winter sets at the NYCC in October, if the 2015 winter sets were any indication. Which means that August is the month we should be getting concrete rumors, and September-ish we'll be getting legit preliminary images. Quote
Mutant Orc Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 (edited) Can you share the dimensions of it, and perhaps some comparisons with other armor pieces? I'm afraid I don't quite know how to upload an image nor do I have the means of doing so on hand. I can tell you though that the top part is roughly as wide as this bubble armour but some of the spikes on it stick out slightly more. The problem I had with it is that it sticked out significantly from an armour plate. Whereas say with this the sides come down to the same level as the bottom of the side-panels* of an armour piece, this new one sticks out so far that the bottom of its sides reach the same level as the top of the armour piece, so if you want it to fill some kind of gap, say around the shoulders to make a character look bulky, it can't do it so well because it sticks out leaving a big gap making it look weird. I hope that makes some sense to you, but I'd like to quickly add this next point that I imagine it'll depend quite a lot on the build of the model you're using it with. There's bound to be a use for it, but I've only just got my hands on them and I'm not a talented MOCer. Someone will find a way to use them it'll just take some thought and the right build. They don't look too bad on Skull Grinder/Kulta afterall... I'd advise you to try and keep an unbiased view on them as you might have great fun with them, but currently for my skill level and the build I was doing it was a bit awkward. Admittedly, I did manage to use them in the end, not on the arms but connected to the top of the shoulders on the body, however I'm not sure if I'm very fond on the way I have done it... *(what I mean by side panel are the bits that would cover the side of a bone when you snap the armour on the front of a bone) Sorry for no pics, maybe someone else will be able to help, and sorry folks for the long post. I doubt it, they were at the NYCC last year because LEGO wanted to make a big event around BIONICLE's come back. I see it more as the exception than the rule. Sorry for no pics, maybe someone else will be able to help I've also made comparison pics for the torso armor and the blades (sword - axe). I also have close-ups for the chestpieces of all of the Skull guys except Kulta, but I'll upload the pics for his review soon, tomorrow maybe. Quote
Mutant Orc Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 (edited) Ah thanks Leewan. http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=111753 and an example of what I meant by talented people implementing them well. Arguably simple, but undeniably effective. I saw this before starting to mod mine and so I tried to do something slightly different but this seems to be the best way. MakutaOfWar Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 (edited) Anybody else note the Phatoka Makuta ribcage similarities with that new piece? XD I mean, it's just a ribcage but I'm just pointing it out... yeah this post was pointless but I have nothing better to do until summer sets come out in the states so... Probably just looks that way since it doesn't have the whole chest area. That and the hollowness since it is a ribcage. Either way, that piece is looking cool. Can't wait to have it in hand. Quote
ToaDraco Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 I really look forward to using the new ribcage torso armor for shin guards-- ah la Tahu. I bet it would look really sweet, although I would like 2 of the gunmetal ones from Grievous for that purpose. Quote
Dorek Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 As with NYCC, LEGO is offering a free SDCC mask to a random retweeter (figured it would happen around now, as the giveaway in person was slated for 12:30 =P). And they're going for about 120 on eBay, so for those gotta-have-it people, there you go. Quote

As of 40 minutes it is sitting around 800, so your chances are at least better than the minifigures. Also, they are giving away a total of ten, not just one. Edit: here is the link to the tweet! I really look forward to using the new ribcage torso armor for shin guards-- ah la Tahu. I bet it would look really sweet, although I would like 2 of the gunmetal ones from Grievous for that purpose. The good thing about it (thank you Leewan for the comparisons!) is that since it is smaller at the top it will work better as far as articulation goes. I have some troubles with Tahu's ankles because the armor is so bulky. Edited July 11, 2015 by TheDesuComplex Quote
Dorek Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Apparently tomorrow they'll also be doing a single "Bionicle Grand Prize Pack", valued at 90 USD, so that sounds like all of Summer sets. Also the mask listings are hitting 50's now. I love watching competitive eBay pricing in action. Quote
Leewan Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 I still don't like it, but the mask looks better IRL than in CGI : (I got the pic from ebay, I'm not at the SDCC ) Quote
Nekchir Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Just got one for 40$. Sounds about right since I paid 30 for the NYCC one. Quote
BrickBuilder3213 Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Kinda tired of these masks that can't be obtained so easily. I really want the Gali and Skull Scorpio masks. Quote
Dorek Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 I paid about 40 for the NYCC mask, so I could go for the same here. Prices for that one bottomed out at about 25 before going back up to what it is now, which is 40's-50's, so I'll see if I can snag the SDCC one in the 30's range. Quote
Kalhiki Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 The mask looks cool, but... Maybe not $40 cool. It'll take more (or less, in this case) to convince me. Quote

Oh boy, the last time I paid $50 for a mask was in 2009, and it came with an extra 365 pieces for free! For real though, I am glad that the exclusive masks aren't as expensive as minifigures, but that is due to supply and demand. Quote
Scarilian Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 (edited) Might be trying to track down some of the exclusive masks, though feel it's impossible due to the exclusive nature of the Gali mask I paid about 40 for the NYCC mask, so I could go for the same here. I saw one of the Gali masks go for sale on eBay, ended up being about 100 bucks plus exorbitant shipping from Australia or something. So not actually too terrible, considering the general rarity, but slightly outside of my comfort zone for Bionicle purchases. As for the SDCC masks, I dunno the quantity, but people had multiples, so it looks like a similar stock to the NYCC one. So the prices will be similar, I think. Quote
