Jetrax99 Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Wait, what's the confirmation that the Protectors are all dudes? Holding onto the barest of hopes, here. Hoping for what? It's been confirmed since LEGO put up the description with the whole "father to son" bit. Even then people questioned it, especially in Kivoda's case, but now we have even more concrete confirmation and you're still questioning it? Why? Quote

Even then people questioned it, especially in Kivoda's case, but now we have even more concrete confirmation and you're still questioning it? Why? The "father to son" bit is something that could have easily just been poor phrasing, since it was copied and pasted for all the Protectors. LEGO used male pronouns for Breez on the Hero Factory site at one point before correcting it, so it's not impossible for them to make mistakes about genders, especially if they're not even talking about the characters individually in the first place. However, the (NOT copied and pasted) description of Gali's "powered up" mode on club.LEGO.com that identified the Protector of Water with male pronouns was a little bit harder to dismiss, so unfortunate as this is I basically saw it coming. Hopefully future story years might have better gender ratios. Edited July 16, 2015 by Aanchir Quote
Scarilian Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 (edited) In other news - I am really annoyed with myself for missing out on an SDCC Skull Scorpio mask for $17. I just hope I can find some others that go that low now... but as is the way of the world, I probably won't see them go that low again If it was the Ebay one, think i might have accidentally brought that ._. Though yeah, they've appeared on Bricklink now so check there? Hoping for what? It's been confirmed since LEGO put up the description with the whole "father to son" bit. Even then people questioned it, especially in Kivoda's case, but now we have even more concrete confirmation and you're still questioning it? Why? I think its the 'rule of 6' that most of Bionicle has presented - the idea that the Water tribe normally is female dominated and that one of a group (usually the water tribe member) is female. Even though the masks were mentioned as being passed down from 'father to son' the animations kinda hint that all villagers and protectors have similar/identical masks. There could also be exceptions to this rule, to add more lore, such as a father not being succeeded by a son and thus passing it onto a daughter who must prove herself worthy? something like that i guess is what fans were hoping Edited July 16, 2015 by Scarilian Quote
One Very Agile Cat Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 It really makes me question some of the folks here who consider "Korgot" hard to pronounce. Quote
Dorek Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 >"give us Protector names!" >"those names suck give us better ones!" Never change, fandom. Never change. Quote
VBBN Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Please don't tell me I'm the only one who saw Korgot and immediately thought of escargot Happy they have names though, and good to see they are just as random as ever. Quote

Hopefully future story years might have better gender ratios. Well, I'm just glad that the whole one-gender-per-type thing from the original has been tossed. Not to mention that all the Protectors being male fits more with the whole tribal aspect, as most tribes are lead by male elders. I hope to see more female leaders should Bionicle progress past 2017. C'mon LEGO, female Toa of Fire. Quote
One Very Agile Cat Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Korgot (PoE) is consistently refered to as "she" and "her" in the book, though. Quote

One Very Agile Cat Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I dunno, dude's not usually wrong about this kind of stuff. Is the preview the entire book? Quote
Tazakk Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Nope. Read the whole preview. I don't know where Mechafire got that but it wasn't the book. Different people get different previews. Cat could've gotten a part with Onua and Korgot. Quote
Mesonak Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Correct; everybody at TTV got vastly different stuff when we opened it up. Could we get some screenshots of the page in question? Because that would be pretty great if true. Quote
Jetrax99 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 (edited) Ok, so Korgot is indeed female. Edited July 17, 2015 by Jetrax99 Quote
Tazakk Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 (edited) Is the preview the entire book? Basically, every person gets a few randomly selected portions of the book. Unless they are limited (they don't seem to be, we've got people getting parts of the final battle) then theoretically the whole book could be pieced together from different previews. On the one hand, cool, on the other hand, we don't really want to discourage book sales. Edited July 17, 2015 by Tazakk Quote

One Very Agile Cat Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Well, that's just excellent. We get female characters, and we're not conforming to G1 gender roles. Bionicle G2, I dig you, bro. Quote
Jetrax99 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 (edited) I said it on TFW and I'll say it here. Korgot is best Protector. Also, LEGO, you have a catch all description to fix. And, will we ever see the Mask of Time? Edited July 17, 2015 by Jetrax99 Quote
MakutaOfWar Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 (edited) Saw PoW is male- No!!! *Grabs Pitchfork* Sees PoE is female- *Puts Away* Now that's better. Also, Names!!! Yayz! N that photobucket link ain't working for me. ;-; Edited July 17, 2015 by MakutaOfWar Quote
Phoenix_Flare Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 (edited) We get female characters, and we're not conforming to G1 gender roles. Bionicle G2, I dig you, bro. Quiet literally too !But yeah I'm excited! Also about the name being "hard to remember". Well when we were younger I'm sure that we all had trouble with G1's names (I know I did). The only one that I would have trouble remembering is PoS (Nilkuu). But Izotor is just an awesome name, epic too! Edited July 17, 2015 by Phoenix_Flare Quote
Refy L.S. Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I'm a little sceptical about Korgot being a girl as the page being referred to has no header or page number. Still, I hope it's real, as it'd be nice to get some gender diversity amongst elements. Quote
Bigger Fish Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Are we all forgetting about the best name in the history of ever, Bingzak? Quote
One Very Agile Cat Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Bingzak sounds like a Grunt's name from Halo. Quote
Kalhiki Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 (edited) Bingzak is the best name in Bionicle since Tiribomba. So. Names. That's cool. PoE being female is great. Though I can't help but think Korgoth of Barbaria every time I see her name. The others are cool. I don't think they sound too weird. Edited July 17, 2015 by Kalhiki Quote
Toa_Bomb Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 (edited) Pretty sure Bingzak is gonna be the new Takua, seeing as I'm pretty sure he got to witness the summoning of the Toa. Also, I think people are forgetting this - he's witnessing the Toa get summoned, which happened 1000 years before the story. I think. I am totally wrong Edited July 17, 2015 by Toa_Bomb Quote

No, the prophecy is whispered by Ekimu a long time before the story, then the modern protectors summon the Toa with it once the Skull Spiders get out of hand. Quote
