Ekimu's character spot is original animation that won't appear in the episodes. None of the villains are going to return after their defeat by the Toa.

Good. After how the Toa completely trashed Slicer, it would be way too convenient for him to somehow reappear completely fine again to fight Ekimu.

That glorious moment when you decide to mod your Protector of Ice's arms, you remember that in 2014 you bought Jaw Beast and that that set contained the shortest bone piece in transparent light blue.

It just looks so good with elbows matching the correct colour scheme  now it's literally a mini Kopaka, thus making it my favourite Protector set along with Korgot.

Anybody think the 'world is a giant robot' thing carries into G2? Probably not because of how small scale the story seems to be compared to the overly expansive lore of G1, but who knows.

Posted

It's not impossible. I mean, we never saw it coming with G1, even with Metru Nui's sunholes being a massive hint. So we wouldn't necessarily see it coming with G2 either.

I don't think it's likely, though, because even if they were planning some sort of large reveal late in the story, they wouldn't do the same thing twice. Firstly, it wouldn't be received as well, and secondly, it would make it hard to slip in little hints like they did with the Sunholes, because G1 fans would spot them instantly and the big reveal would be spoiled.

Certainly not as the Big Story Engine. Though the "universe inside a giant spacefaring robot" idea could certainly be reused, if only in passing. Okoto, however, is most likely what it seems (though the Ancient City being in the shape of a Bonehead face is interesting...)Whatever the Big Twist is, assuming there is one, I imagine it'll be of a considerably different nature.

On the topic of the 14th episode: I gotta say, Ekimu's voice has grown on me.

He kinda sounds like Old Peculiar from the Yogscast's Shadows of Israphel Minecraft series. Espicially with the way he says "Heroes!"

(I hope someone knows what I'm talking about  )

All in all, a pretty good Ep emotion wise (got me tearing  up of how happy and epic it was).

Any news on the Villain Pack? As in when/how will it be available?

Yeah, I'd like to know more about that as well. As far as we know, it won't be a S@H giveaway for September, but perhaps it could be October?

Pretty sure you can scratch October, also.

In the US, yes, but I don't think we've seen the October promos for Europe yet, so there is still some vague hope.

But if it's clear that it isn't coming out this year, guess I'll be heading to BL or eBay for it. After all there seems to be a rather plentiful supply of them on both sites (even outside Russia) for a polybag we don't even know the origins of yet!

If I recall correctly, we got the Hero Pack polybag in Europe a month or so before the Americans did. Maybe this will hold true for this set, too.

It certainly does seem plentiful, though. I've been tempted to pick one up on eBay. They seem to be coming from Croatia, I believe.

in regards to weather we'll have the same Big Story Engine as G1 i personally doubt it not only because how it is old hat/treading the same ground but the whole appeal was how it was the reveal of the very character that started the whole series. it wasnt the cool factor alone of the setting being a humungus mecha all along but the godlike ruler and guardian of these little robot people's legend wasnt just real but true in the most literal sense, mata Nui was their universe. as well as having is devil adversary makuta seem near supernatural throughout the series leading to a great payoff as to how this powerful being took down the supreme being of that world.

we already have the catalyst event getting solved this year, with the mata nui analogue not only being awakened but available as a toy and character from here on out. so that is proof they are not gonna go in the same direction as the first series. especially if they planned the series in such a way that it can be wrapped up fully in 2 more years if the line stops selling.

if i should hazard a guess to what this series' story engine would be i wanna say it's gonna be this series' Great being analogues. from what i have seen in fiction nearly every mechanical character was explicitly stated or strongly implied to have been the creation of some other race/species/class for whatever reason so maybe this time around instead of merely being the explanation to why we have a giant robot full of robo-villagers the Creators would have a more direct and integral role to the plot.

like off the top of my head it wasnt a magic artifact that summoned the masters to Okoto but the Creators directly answering the protectors' call, probably generating said Toa wholecloth just for that instance. could explain how they have no memories since they were just born and how they just so happen to wield the elements Ekimu's premade masks possessed already.

heck i can see this tie into the Mask of Ultimate Power being a sentient force capable of destroying the world. the Creators were so shocked at fearful of what makuta has wrought upon the island that they pulled all stops and did what they can to nullify this threat: make a local legend manifest to do what legends do and take down the badguys while instilling hope to a fallen people.

it can tie into the series catalyst by bringing back some classic characters. like it is revealed that the toa were just legends brought to life to take down an ultimate evil made by combining everything possible for power they can probably do the flipside and combine their strengths into gestalt beings, one who has the wisdom of heroes and one with the determination/viligance of heroes. Waiura and Akamai in other words. they can be the two good titans that would fight whatever titan the MoUP will come in as the epic final battle.

this is all my wild mass guessing though but bottom line i doubt they will reuse the giant robot again.

Too bad. That was awesome animation.

We heard his voice as he attacked the Skull Villains.

Right, I forgot.

Interesting stuff

That's not a bad idea, and one I'd fully support (especially if it means we'll have sets or clear images of the Great Being analogues, unlike last time  ).

One of my earlier ideas was that they would try something similar to the original plot device, but with a twist (like Okoto being a sentient spaceship or an organic computer, or the underground massive mecha being actually a threat the Toa must stop), but something different would probably be better.

I think the twist of G2 is going to be along the idea that the Toa are being summoned from somewhere and each time they are summoned/sent back they have their memories wiped by great beings or something. The twist being the reveal of where that location actually is that they are being summoned from and the impact that has on the story as a whole, whether they are being summoned from the past, future or maybe a different reality.

Alternatively something related to Makuta not being evil but just being misguided and the Mask Of Ultimate Power being the housing for a much greater threat would be a nice twist, that the character that most fans of G1 and G2 will view as the villain was actually just a misguided character who gets redemption and is actually not the main villain.

But if it's clear that it isn't coming out this year, guess I'll be heading to BL or eBay for it. After all there seems to be a rather plentiful supply of them on both sites (even outside Russia) for a polybag we don't even know the origins of yet!

Same here, if the polybag release hasnt been revealed by late October then i'll probably pick it up, its already selling fairly reasonably on some sites.

Though i'm wondering at this stage if perhaps the polybag will be given out at NYCC rather than seeing much of a larger release in other places

i bet the they would do the island-as-computer thing like in hitchiker's guide to the galaxy:D due to how the series so far had time as a major element/theme i can smell time based simulation like i dunno see how a civilization develops so they can solve a problem on their end. and the MoUP ends up being such a huge glitch in the system they deploy plan B the masters.

Transformers had the earth be the cybertronian god of evil unicron right? would lego be comfortable to have a god figure be a badguy, like a malevolent precurser/creator.

this can just be because we are just exiting its very first year but i dont think we saw anything that hints at a supernatural presence that would indicate a sentient place.( i think there was a lot of dialogue talking about mata nui's power and his ties to the MU though). so i dont think we will have any living plane or anything.

curious to how fan reaction would be if the inhabitants of otoko were more akin to Glatorians rather than the matoran they were based on. not a created race but cyborgs that transitioned to mechanical forms form a naturally occurring organic life. transhuman Aliens:D

since G1 had the inhabitants of the MU be artificial constructs in the first place to have the reveal work. bet a cyborg nature would introduce an atlantis type antient civilization that the islanders once forgot and only two members of that civilization survived to carry on their antient craft...until one got jealous of their brother and did something selfish and unspeakable :P

on a tangent i am curious if the story team utlized new plotting techniques that can allow a planned end to be prolongued without seeming clunky or out of place since they did plan for 3 years of story with the conclusion penned out incase they need to end it.

and thinking about it is there a way to write for a literal multi media franchise compared to individual media like comics books tv movies games ect. (but i know that is off topic)

I think the 'big reveal' was hinted at when the Toa said

they recognized Ekimu despite having no memories and how Ekimu seemed quite familiar with the Toa

It's also been made quite clear that time is a very important underlying factor and I think the reveal will be something having to do with the Toas' origins. I actually wonder if they were sent to Okoto from the future so that at the end of the story they are sent back in time to complete the journey they just finished(does that make sense?), or perhaps they failed and had to return the current timeline to try again. Regardless, prior to their arrival on Okoto I think they've been around for awhile and have appeared in the past, the information we have been given thus far indicates they have as opposed to the idea they have just now 'been born'. Aside from what I put in spoiler tags, it is made clear that the Toa had memories but lost them, they use their elemental powers out of instinct despite not remembering or fully understanding them, the villagers had accurate depictions, names and information about the Toa prior to their arrival, including how their weapons worked and had utility functions, and Ekimu forged golden masks that happen to be exact representations of the Toas' elemental masks.

I think it would be cool if the Toa are actually from an advanced space-faring civilization, or at least a high-tech city in the clouds or in orbit around the planet. I would like to see those planets in Okoto's solar system shown in the first story animation become a bigger part of the plot, possibly being explored, but only if the line extends past the planned 3 years.

Remember the Bio of the original Toa Mata? It says:

"After a Series of adventures at Karda Nui, they were put into Toa canisters where they stayed until they were needed. [...] the canisters were faulty, resulting in them

drifting in the sea for the next one thousand years. [...] After floating for so long, their organic tissue had decayed into nothing."

My personal connection of G2 with G1: WHAT IF the Toa were summoned into the past long ago and their G2-Bodies are their originals appereances? They were summoned from a time before they landed on Mata Nui (This could be possible because they were at least 1000 Years in their canisters) and at the end of G2, they will get into their canisters and their organic tissu will decay until they look like we know them as Toa Mata. Later Takua will summon them again.

Conclusion: The Toa Okoto came from the future and landed in the past of G1-Storyline, but G1 only happens BECAUSE they were summoned into the past.

Sorry for some bad english along the way =D

Keep calm LewiMOC :-)

I said its my *personal* connection. This does not exclude me knowing that G1 and G2 are officially separated :-D

And no, I do read this discussion from the very beginning xD

Oh lol of course. "to be continued" pfffft

I think that confirms then that

Tahu and the toa will be wearing completely new masks once they've been revived by Ekimu after his victory against Grinder

Episode 16

Kopaka; "If you called an army of real warriors like me, this would have taken no time"

Ekimu; "You're power comes from your mask, true power comes from Unity, a duty we face. We must hurry. Evil has destroyed so much."

Onua; "Actually that was..."

Lewa; "So Ekimu, its out duty? what is happening?"

Ekimu; "It started just before you arrived"

Gali; "Who done what"

Ekimu; They call him Skull Grinder. An evil minion under Makuta's control. The Mask Of Creation... my mask... he's on his way to destroy it. If he succeeds all is lost"

Pohatu; "Where would he go to destroy a mask?"

Ekimu; "There is only one place, the mask forge"

Episdoe 17

But they have yet to face the true evil of Makuta and his powerful servants. Ekimu; "He has started my furnace"

Kopaka; "Let me cool things down"

Tahu; "Hey, fire is my element"

Ekimu; "Have you learnt nothing? Skull Basher will defeat you one by one"

Tahu; "Lets give him a _____ to meet" (Not sure of this line)

Ekimu; "What are you doing? We will defeat you and get the mask long before it melts"

Makuta (Possesing Skull Grinder); "I will have plenty of time once i have destroyed you"

Ekimu; "Makuta?"

Lewa; "What is the plan?"

Ekimu; "Keep him occupied"

Gali; "Is that it?"

Ekimu; "Just keep on fighting as long as you can"

TO BE CONTINUED

Will do thoughts in a bit.

Oh woow.

Makuta is possessing Kulta? Didn't see THAT coming. So he's actually come out this early. Plus he manages to one up Teridax in that, since he was limited to soulless bodies and couldn't override the spirit inside. But do we really see Kulta talking or was it Makuta all along? Really interesting.
