Logan McOwen Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 "Hi here's how Ekimu looks. Okay, and here's Skull Grinder. And finally, the Mask of Creation. lolthxbye" No concept art. Nothing about the development. Just a look at the set. Quote
Dorek Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Interesting bit about the runes on the mask, but nothing particularly new aside from that. I always like watching John Ho present, though. He's so quirky and silly. Quote
Aanchir Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 "Hi here's how Ekimu looks. Okay, and here's Skull Grinder. And finally, the Mask of Creation. lolthxbye" No concept art. Nothing about the development. Just a look at the set. This is what LEGO designer videos are usually like: a short explanation of the set's key features. The designer videos for the Toa were out of the ordinary, to say the least. It would have been cool to get some concept art like last time, but it's not a given (and besides, the main mask in this set is the Mask of Creation, which we've already seen plenty of concept art for on the LEGO Bionicle Facebook page). TheDesuComplex Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Looks like the orange highlights are indeed put in with the intent of showing Kulta's influence. Interesting, but I think it might have been confirmed before. Pretty basic, but still good information. Quote
GK733 Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 And also the idea that scorpios were part of an actual species rather than a mess of bones that was given life. Which seems like missed potential and could had rendered their design somewhat acceptable. Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 (edited) On another occasion, Kopaka appeared in the Lego Technic site, only to be the background for the Arctic Truck set. http://www.lego.com/en-us/technic/videos/hit-the-slopes-51b7a519d16e4cf5b504c2ae710fbe94 Edited November 26, 2015 by nguyengiangoc Quote
ZORK64 Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I was kinda non-active around here for various reasons, but I finally found the time to get into the Skull villains of 2015. Recently I bought Skull Basher (purple), and I plan to get the green four-armed fellow and the big VS. set. I just realize that I haven't really bothered myself with the names of all these skele-dudes. Oh well. Just a quick question: Does the silver skeletal bone piece only come in one size? Or were there any longer versions of it found in other sets? Quote

Dr_Chronos Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 (edited) Well... this is different. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want some. They just have that sort of derpy charm. Gali and Pohatu are my favorites. In other news, the Month of Earth scenery has been released. (Facebook wasn't working so I had to grab the image from somewhere else.) You know I think this might be the weakest scenery so far. That's not to say it's bad, I think it's quite good. Compared to the others it simply does not stand up as well. The rocky texture look is fantastic, but the randomly dispersed purple is what really kills it for me. If it was in pockets it might have looked better. I know it would have been hard to implement, but this diorama really needs some color. That Korgot is fantastic. I particularly like her. Edited December 2, 2015 by Dr_Chronos Quote
Shakar Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 >they revamp Korgot >the red axles are still present and plainly visible Is that dark bley or light bley? If it's light bley, a mix of dark bley would've made the cave a lot more lively and natural looking. If it's dark bley, a mix with black would've done the same. I would've put some dark tan too. Overall, while I'm no master MOCer, it looks too uniform, I think. The overall structure is really good however. And the lake is a great idea. Well... this is different. And they don't even have exclusive recolours! Quote
Aanchir Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 >they revamp Korgot >the red axles are still present and plainly visible Is that a Korgot revamp? I thought it was just a generic Earth villager. But anyway, I don't mind the red axles here any more than I mind them anywhere else. I certainly wouldn't have changed them. Quote
Shakar Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I just find it funny that they go out of their way to build a character exclusive to the diorama, yet they still keep the red axles which are incredibly easy to fix. Though I suppose not everyone is irked by them as I am. And yeah, I forgot (..must..not..make...puns..) all villagers wear the same mask. It's probably just a generic villager. Also forgot to mention, I do like how s/he's using the Breakout knee caps/shoulder pads. Show that the designers haven't forgotten about the HF era parts. Darth Vader used them, but I don't count him as a BIONICLE figure of course. Quote

Darth Vader used them, but I don't count him as a BIONICLE figure of course. I for one definitely prefer red axles to black in most scenarios, and Onua is no different. They're small enough that they don't adversely affect the color scheme, and in fact serve as a neat little mechanical accent that helps break up boring blocks of solid color. As for the HF parts, keep in mind that this MOC was technically done by Corvin Stichert, who may be both a set designer and a Bionicle fan but is not in fact a Bionicle designer (he's on the Lego City design team). Quisoves Pugnat Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 (edited) Well... this is different. Those make me oddly nostalgic. You see, when I first saw the Turaga, at the age of five, I assumed that they were keychain miniatures of the Toa. Not being able to read led to some interesting assumptions, on my part. I also initially thought that the Bohrok were a new kind of Toa. =P Re the Onua MOC: Quite cool. I'm particularly enamored of that Earth Villager. If I can get hold of those shoulderplates, I might try to recreate him. Edited December 3, 2015 by Quisoves Pugnat Quote
wghost Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 (edited) [...] I liked BIONICLE (and still do) because the line's beginning was marked by a fantastic, mythical story that mixed nature and technology in a brilliant way, with core conceits of mysticism and fantasy lightly sprinkled with science-fiction concepts. It was a larger than life story, and especially as originally told from the angle of the villagers instead of the Toa, it had an epic scope. I totally agree and that's something I really, really miss post-2003: the original athmosphere. Exploring a mysterious island, gathering at Kini Nui, the whole tribal vibe and the obligatory MNOG music made so much of a difference back then. I had hoped 2015 was going to replicate that feel, but it didn't quite work out. Edited December 4, 2015 by wghost Quote
DraikNova Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 I think Onua has won snowball fights. Forever. Quote
Dorek Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 I think Onua has won snowball fights. Forever. Onua does not win snowball fights. Winning implies a certain sportsmanship, a chance for each side to achieve some sort of parity. No, Onua does not win snowball fights. Onua obliterates them. Quote
Bigger Fish Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 I think Onua has won snowball fights. Forever. I like how Tahu is just making a fire shield to melt the snowballs like a chump. Well... this is different. Someone should try building these things. Also, I hope Gali doesn't run with those scissors! Quote
Takanuinuva Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Has anyone kept the cardboard stand from there villain pack with the gold grinder mask? I'm debating throwing it out and building a stand for my gold grinder mask. I'm keeping the hexagonal poster as it works perfectly with my toa mask stand. One thing about the mask of creation. I don't like how open it is in the top. It does let a lot of light in but fiction wise. It would be useless in a battle as an enemy could impale Ekimu through the top of his head without the mask getting in the way. Quote

Ekimu may know how to fight, but he's primarily an artisan, not a warrior. Quote
