Kalhiki Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) So, have any of the artists here tried to draw any of the new Kanohi from the display? I could take a whack at it. Been wanting to draw some of these updated Toa anyway. Edited July 29, 2014 by Kalhiki Quote
SirPuddings Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) Dammit Zenerius you posted it before I could IDK about you guys, but I think that I saw printing on Tahu's chestplate when I zoomed in on the display pic Yeah, that definitely looks to be inspired by some sort of Maori/Polynesian tattoo design of sorts, however, this image is still relatively blurry so I can't be 100% on that. Something I'd really like to see in Bionicle 2015 is having them adapt many of the Maori aspects again (seeing as I am maori myself), but I find it unlikely, and if they did, someone would be bound to take issue with it yet again. toatali Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Greg's reply : 'We are working on the first issues of LEGO Magazine and LEGO Club Jr. magazine for 2015 now. We are NOT working on a BIONICLE comic for 2015.' Source : https://community.lego.com/t5/LEGO-General/Chat-with-Greg-Farshtey/td-p/6605180/page/376 Quote
Dorek Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Figured that would be the update. Poor guy answers one normal question about his job and it turns into "BIONICLE CONFIRMED????". Given the response to Hero Factory comics and books, I think it would take a bit for those to get off the ground for any new constraction line. This wouldn't be the same BIONICLE from ten years ago; it's a new environment for transmedia toylines, and some things work better than others. Quote
TwistLaw Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) I think it's unlikely. The main reason why the LEGO Group had to do that in the first place is probably that BIONICLE was never branded as "LEGO BIONICLE" before (unlike most themes, which are called "LEGO {theme name}". BIONICLE, according to official style guides, was just identified as "BIONICLE". Even though BIONICLE packages always had the LEGO logo towards the bottom of the packages and the BIONICLE movies always had the LEGO logo in the opening and closing credits, it would be easy for people to make the mistake of thinking that the LEGO Group didn't create the BIONICLE brand and characters, and instead just produced the sets under license, or sponsored the movies. So the disclaimer on Hero Factory packages could tell people something they might not realize on their own: that "LEGO Hero Factory" sets and story by the same creators as "BIONICLE". I don't think there will be nearly as much confusion over whether the new "LEGO BIONICLE" is by the same creators as "LEGO Hero Factory", especially since not only do the two theme names disclose the parent company, but also as far as we can tell the two themes will share the vast majority of their parts. I have to disagree with you about this. BIONICLE was LEGO first real success in the constraction area, becoming itself one of LEGO's biggest success of all times. Putting a "from the makers of BIONICLE characters" logo on HF's first wave was just an attempt to capitalise on BIONICLE's strong name among retailers and families. EDIT: the very same way Pixar, to name one big company, puts a "from the makers of Nemo, Incredibles etc." on every new movie they make. Edited July 29, 2014 by TwistLaw Quote

EDIT: the very same way Pixar, to name one big company, puts a "from the makers of Nemo, Incredibles etc." on every new movie they make. I understand that. But I was explaining why that was such a big deal in that particular case. Ninjago was also amazingly successful (in fact, the most successful LEGO product line launch of all time), but the LEGO Group didn't feel the need to put "From the makers of LEGO Ninjago characters" on LEGO Legends of Chima packages, because thanks to the branding and visual direction of those themes any child would be able to recognize immediately that LEGO created both brands. With BIONICLE it was not so obvious. Quote

The whole "putting the LEGO word" in front of a theme's name may deeply change the way people see your product. Quote
Quisoves Pugnat Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 I imagine that any child capable of reading who had bought or received and built a Bionicle set would know that LEGO was the theme's producer. Understandably, there were many adults who purchased them as gifts and did not realize that they were made by LEGO, but I doubt that the person who fails to notice a small LEGO logo in the bottom corner of a package will notice a small "From the Makers of Bionicle" message in the bottom corner of a package. Voxovan Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Somebody asked Greg some time ago, does he think if Bionicle was to come back, would it be more "childish" like Hero Factory, Chima etc. Greg's answer: "I doubt it. The target audience for the sets would probably be the same as it was before, and the odds are the communication would still be aimed slightly older. That does not mean the story would be as complex as the last time, but I can't see them turning it into a "young" line either." I know that Greg's opinion doesn't matter that much, because we don't even know if he is in the new story team, but that gives us a little hope that the new Bionicle series will keep the "epic and mature" tone of the original series. Good to know, as long as we get something a slightly bit more mature than Ninjago, I'll be happy. :P Also, do you think the "ice defender/matoran" has the XT4 buzz-saw in an trans-blue colour? I hope it is, could be using that piece in said colour. Quote

TheGreatSpirit Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 If you type in Bionicle on the Lego Shop search bar, it redirects to this page: http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Coming-Soon Credit goes to SailorQuaoar on BZP for finding this Quote

arc Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I've wanted to believe this for a long time, but tried to remain skeptical incase it was fake. But now I'm 100% convinced. And 9 year old me is flipping out. It's getting hard to keep him inside. Quote

Dorek Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Hey, I asked for definitive proof. I'd say this is the closest thing we're going to get before the typical retail catalog leaks. I am satisfied. Quote
Sir Walter Maugham Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 So this is why Lego.com went down for a while today. Man, those hi-res leaks just can't come soon enough! Quote
Kamen Rider Kiva Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 GUYS! What if this little easter egg leads up to a Brickfair reveal? It seems likely to me. :D Quote
TheDesuComplex Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 GUYS! What if this little easter egg leads up to a Brickfair reveal? It seems likely to me. :D Seems unlikely, as they just got the domain back and will probably be putting in the time between now and November getting it back up and running. I'm betting on the NYCC reveal mentioned before, if there will be one at all. Quote

I'm betting on the NYCC reveal mentioned before, if there will be one at all. They've never let the domain expire. It was last renewed in 2012, but it was updated in March for some unspecified reason, according to the WHOIS records. It's been redirecting to LEGO's main page since BIONICLE.com was taken down. Aethersprite Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Wow. How do you guys find these things? If we're lucky, we'll get retail catalogue leaks within the next month or so. Quote
TheDesuComplex Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Ah, sorry. Had forgotten that they had kept the domain. I was thinking for a moment there that they had lost it completely. I think that an NYCC reveal is the likeliest because it will give them time to finalize the product, finalize the website, etc so that it can be launched at the press of a button. Wow. How do you guys find these things? Slow trawling of databases and records, by frantic fans rooting from the source itself for any sign. I'm honestly not at all surprised. Quote
