Jakura Nuva Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Eh, Elves doesn't seem to be a theme LEGO would show off to collectors. Point taken. Still doesn't explain why they would label it a "new" theme, though. Quote
GK733 Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Point taken. Still doesn't explain why they would label it a "new" theme, though. You would name it "returning theme" and that wouldn't open the floodgates? Quote
Aanchir Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Heck, maybe a D2C Jurassic Park set in January to kick off the theme (a la Simpsons). I had completely forgotten about the Jurassic World sets. That's a very real possibility, especially since it's a franchise that's ingrained in popular culture and Comic-Con is chiefly a pop culture event. Quote
Jakura Nuva Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 You would name it "returning theme" and that wouldn't open the floodgates? *Shrug* "New" would still be a misleading term. I'm pretty confident that's what this is. Quote
Mesonak Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 *Shrug* "New" would still be a misleading term. Asger Johansen's initial LinkedIn post regarding a new constraction theme for 2015 specifically used the word "new." There's nothing wrong with labeling it as such; for all intents and purposes, if it ends up being a reboot, it will be a new theme. :P Quote

Look at Hero Factory, for example... :P Kidding! But yeah, you're right - with what I've seen, though, I'm still not convinced it will be a reboot. Edited August 29, 2014 by Jakura Nuva Quote
Transparency for Effect Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Well, HF at least ended with its story complete. There's numerous examples where LEGO has done nothing about the end of a line, eg the missing Comic 40 of Exo-Force, the announcement of who won the "decide the ending of Alpha Team" contest (though the web game did have its own ending), Power Miners had a huge plot twist that was never fully revealed, Mars Mission and Space Police didn't get a proper ending either, Space Police's online blog was cut short at "here come the Space Police Commandos!" and Mars Mission... well, it did have an ending, but it wasn't exactly fully explained. If you really want to get picky, V1 of BIONICLE didn't get an end to its story either. V-What? Don't forget Slizers/Throwbots! Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Hi guys; I'm new here. For the conversation at hand, I think that Bionicle will not be revealed until December, and will be released around January. I doubt we will see any prelims or the like at all; it has happened before. And I just hope that Bionicle will revert back to the technic elements; Hero Factory started out with technic, and switched to CCBS, so maybe Bionicle Reborn will start with CCBS and switch to technic. There are three things that this new line must have to keep me happy with the decision to bring it back: 1) The elements, not guns, used as weapons. 2) The Great Beings. 3) The Three Virtues. If Bionicle Reborn doesn't incorporate those three things, than Lego lost my interest. Then it is just Hero Factory, but with better colors. Quote
dviddy Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Hero Factory started out with technic, and switched to CCBS, so maybe Bionicle Reborn will start with CCBS and switch to technic This will not happen. Designers have said that the CCBS system is here to stay. I talked with a LEGO rep at Brickfair this month, and he said word-for-word "the new system has allowed for more than the old at a lower price, too. I see it being around for a long, long time." Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Fair point, and of course the CCBS allows for more creativity, but I miss complexity. It was very fun to slide in pins and axles, connect the little bars to them, and allow the model to move by spinning another axle. Now, it is just: "snap this onto this, and put this here." Plus, CCBS tends to squeak a lot. However, I'll tolerate CCBS as long as Pohatu is brown, Gali has some trans-blue, and all of the masks look nice. Bring back Lewa's smile; I miss it! Quote

I still have no idea what people have against the CCBS. It's simple, yes, but it can be extremely versatile. I for one am glad that CCBS is staying. Dare I say, it allows for more creativity than Bionicle's old technic system. Quote

I'm going to go ahead, based on the pictures we've seen thus far, and say that you'll definitely not be getting all of these. Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 (edited) As I said, it is more creative, but it lacks a certain style, a certain feel. Bionicle parts felt like more than armor plating; it somehow felt organic, yet robotic, and also had a stylized look. CCBS plates are just flat plates that come in different colors, with no style or feel. Technic was less creative, true, but it looked much better. Individuality was present. And yes, Darth Vader ^. I doubt Lewa will have his smile, but Pohatu and Gali look promising... Edited August 30, 2014 by LN-01354 Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I'm glad CCBS is going to stick around. Especially since the "Make this bit move by spinning an axle" disappeared in 05, unless Icarax's weapon arm counts. I can agree with not having guns, though. That was dumb. Quote
Chro Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Not having guns? The Defenders all have guns Quote
Anexcuse Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 The first wave will probably be simpler than any other wave, like the start of Bionicle and Hero Factory. If they branch out more into Technic like Hero Factory did in IFB summer wave, I'll be happy. Quote
Voxovan Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I actually really loved the functions in sets in 2001-2005 and was really upset when they stopped appearing in the newer sets. Yeah sure, Bionicle vehicles from 2008 and 2009 had some nice functions, but I miss the days when almost every set had its own function. I guess Lego kinda tried to bring it back with Bruizer and Dragon Bolt, but those weren't even close to sets like Nui-Jaga or Boxor in my opinion. And I disagree that CCBS allows more creativity than Bionicle's old technic system. For me, you can build fantastic models with Bionicle system, as well as the CCBS, and even greater things when you combine them both. One thing that bugs me in CCBS - even though the bones are great, you need shells to cover them. But every shell looks the same. Seriously, we haven't got any new shell since 2011 - and it's been almost 4 years! Sure, they come in different sizes and colours, but it's still the same type of armor. And it's just flat and boring. It's a shame that Lego won't give us some new, more detailed shells to kinda make them look more "Bionicle-like". But meh, life is brutal. Quote

We don't know that they definitely won't yet, especially seeing how the image we're basing off of is preliminary and very blurry. I'm glad CCBS is going to stick around. Especially since the "Make this bit move by spinning an axle" disappeared in 05, unless Icarax's weapon arm counts. I can agree with not having guns, though. That was dumb. Glad I'm not the only person who remembers that exception... I'm not too bugged by them having the guns/launchers again instead of 100% Toa tools as long as those guns are pulled off well. And CCBS means non-breaking bal-joints though, so yeah, it can definitely stay around for at least the first year. :3 Quote
Toa of Gallifrey Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 All I want from CCBS are some new shells. I think the bones and add-ons are brilliant and the chestplates are cool, and the smooth shells we have worked for HF but I'd like some new ones that have this kind of piston-y look like the Metru and Inika shells. I'd also like some CCBS bones that have holes in the middle ball, which can allow for new shells that connect via pins. Quote
Zenerius Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I'm not a fan of new shells. Keeping the original ones, while most of the new armor details come from addons. Think of it: you could attach the detailed addons to any shell you'd like and it would give them a more bionicle-esque aesthetic. Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I really don't like the shells, but here is a thought: it makes more sense. Think about it, story-wise: they are living beings, so they need armor for protection. Old Bionicle pieces just looked like robot body parts, but the shells over a skeleton feel for like they are living things!! And, like someone else said, I hate the guns from 2006-on. They went from elemental powers, to lasers and machine guns. And Jetpacks!! Lewa used to be the only one who could fly, Gali the only one who could breathe underwater, but yay modern technology, now we all can!! Also, ^Toa of Gallifrey, we need that on the new Lewa Mask!!
