Maybe I'm the last one to notice it, but look at the small ledge just above the right plug's wire. To the left is the original PF plug, the way it's been since 2007.

This obviously helps to disconnect the plug without pulling at the wire. The interesting thing is, I found it on all my PF Servo motors and all PF V2 receivers, but not on the PF L motors which suggests that they've been produced quite a while ago. Anybody seen it somewhere else?

Hi I have the new type connection ( the one on the right of you picture) on all my v2 recovers , servo motors and on all my large motors . I also have in on 4 new medium motors I got from Lego the other day. So it must be how all newer pf stuff comes . I can take pics tomorrow if any one likes .

I have get new expansion cables last month and they have the connector on the right. My older ones have the left type. I think the round edge is to prevent cable breaks in tight environments.

Yep, i saw them first time about 1 year ago on 41999. Also the compound around wire is more softer(like rubber).

Interesting, one of the IR receivers I ordered from a year or so ago has it. I never really noticed it since I use the orange brick separator to disconnect them.

All of the dark bley plugs I have feature this little "lip", but the light bley plug on the extension cables does not. Without some of the older plugs to compare, I can't say if this makes them easier to pry apart (I use two brick separators due to concerns about damaging them), but...

I think the round edge is to prevent cable breaks in tight environments.

...this does seem to be a likely reason for the change.

Well, I can confirm it helps when separating. You can't use the brick separator when plugs are connected to the IR receiver because of the receiver's wall, after all.

Ooo this makes some sense. Admittedly though, I have had some technical hiccups when something didn't respond - and it was because a plug stack came loose from the IR receiver. The designers move in mysterious ways.
