piterx Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 helo guys :) This contest really inspires me a lot! So here's the plan: I wanna build, or at least try to build this car for the contest! I wasn't that happy to build something usual like an offroader, so i moved to a car that might look more original :) A few ideas for this model: - It's gonna have 4 motors or maybe 5 depending if i need two XL motors for drive... so 2 L or XL motors for drive 1 servo for steering 1 servo for breaking 1 servo for changing gear - the gearbox will be the 3+R i recently developed wich i think is gonna work great - I hope i can add a manual high-low reduction as well... - There will be the usual auto clutch - I'd like to have brake lights like in the pajero - 4 wheel drive - the model is probably gonna be red (sigh) - Mcpherson strut - i'd love powering it with two RC motors but im not sure it will work... Anyway, i haven't checked out if it's possible building this model yet....but you all guys can be sure it will be a car, it will have a gearbox and it's going to be performant enough for its size :P hope you'll like it! ps: here's the gearbox i'll use ;) Quote
pint14 Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 When i saw the headline, i knew it must be your entry :D. Can't wait to see more progress! Quote
TheItalianBrick Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 When i saw the headline, i knew it must be your entry :D I had the same feeling!! Peterx it's one of the best and for sure my favorite designer when it comes to cars!!!!! Can't wait aswell......this looks so promising!  Quote
XAxles Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Wow... a Fiat Panda as a Dakar racer. I never thought there would be one. Let alone a Fiat Panda from the generation before that which looks like Town cars! Quote
Epic Technic Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 This is a hilarious vehicle   :iamded_lol: I'm sure that its going to to be a machine. Quote
vliet Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 I knew there was a 4x4 Panda in real-life but I have never seen this one, it looks nice. Quote
piterx Posted December 29, 2014 Author Posted December 29, 2014 (edited) im checking proportions by now....seems like i'll need to make it a little bit wider because of the 4WD...i might find another way tho :) im happy you liked the idea! it would look nice in black as well! or maybe like this XD Edited December 29, 2014 by piterx Quote
sm 01 Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 This looks so promising. Great functions, amazing gearbox... I can't wait to see it finished! Black with big tires would be awesome. Quote
piterx Posted December 29, 2014 Author Posted December 29, 2014 i think i might go for completely black, white rims and red seats....it would look good i guess :P big wheels would force me to change the way it's built, id need to add live axles instead of mcpherson... if i have time i can try to find a way to convert it easily :D Quote
Milan Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Exactly the way I make my proportions :) Good luck! It loos awesome! Quote
LeocornoProductions Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Great work and planning, there is not a single moc of yours that I dislike because they are all amazing, well thought out pieces of genius. But one thing I ask, when you test your 4wd mocs and offroad mocs, please drive them offroad as well. I hope this moc turns out well. Quote
piterx Posted December 29, 2014 Author Posted December 29, 2014 yeah i will :D even if this kind of building is not for real offroad performances i'm pretty sure it will go on some offroad paths as well :) i really hope it turns out the way im figuring it.... actually as i said before i'd love to use two RC motors for this one just to give it a nice maximum speed when it reaches the third gear.... otherwise it's gonna have only decent performances just like the pajero....wich turns to be really god for something that weighs over 1 kg :) Quote
Doc_Brown Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 This is looking so cool! Can't wait to see more man. Do you have red panels? Quote
CobyCobie Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 I will be extremely impressed when I see something this small with so many features. I am actually excited for this. I love the Dakar and other rally raids Quote
Rishab N Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Looking forward to another one of your great compact MOC's Quote
Rockbrick Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 if a normal 2wd 2cv can complete the dakar (and many have) then a 4x4 panda can too Quote
captainmib Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 How do you make these nice and clean proportions. I'd like to try that. Nice entry, and I had the same thought: this has to be a piterx entry Quote
piterx Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 :D thanks for the feedback guys! i really can't wait to get back home after christmas holydays and start building :P in the meanwhile have a look at this little car having fun on some sand Quote
5imon Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 if a normal 2wd 2cv can complete the dakar (and many have) then a 4x4 panda can too Not so sure about that. No modern car has the suspension travel of a 2CV, unless heavily modified. Quote
XAxles Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 No modern car has the suspension travel of a 2CV, unless heavily modified. Are you looking at the X-Raid Mini Racers? Because I am looking at those when you said that. Quote
Lucio Switch Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 I like your choice, I look forward for this MOC! Quote
Rockbrick Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Not so sure about that. No modern car has the suspension travel of a 2CV, unless heavily modified. the dakar panda is heavily modified i suppose.... Quote
5imon Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Are you looking at the X-Raid Mini Racers? Because I am looking at those when you said that. I wasn't thinking of a specific vehicle. But that's about what I wanted to say. I'm not even sure if I'd call the Mini "heavily modified". It rather seems to be a rally car with a body that looks like a Mini. The Panda however seems to be closer to the real car. Which brings me back on topic... Interesting choice piterx, and I'm looking forward to the result. I'm actually quite fond of this cute little car, and we get a lot of them with 4WD in the swiss mountains. Quote
piterx Posted January 3, 2015 Author Posted January 3, 2015 i was wondering on how to make the front lights....hmmm mumble mumble :P anyway i think i'll go for the 5 doors version just because it's gonna be lighter even if i like more the one from the first pic in 3 days i'll start building and i'll update this thread...if you have any suggestion for the front lights let me know :D Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Use trans clear dishes for the two big lights? Quote
