Speaking of attention to detail, I am a bit surprised that they not only did the designer video with the steering wheel upside down, but also did all of the HD press release photos like that as well...

It's certainly beautiful.

Love Ferrari, and I think Lego did a great job with the scale they decided upon.

Sure it would've been nice, but looking at the price and piece count, this was pretty much what I was expecting.

Personally, I find it a bit weird that the model seems to have been done in 2 different scales, as a couple of people have already mentioned. The length is far too short compared to height and width, thus making the whole model look distorted and squashed. I do wonder why that was decided upon, I would have been happy if the car was £10 more if it meant the proportion issues were ironed out. Maybe it had something to do with part and technique limitations, maybe the look couldn't have been so well achieved if the car was longer?

But asidde from the iffy and rather questionable proportions, I love the attention to the little details and it does ultimately look like what it's supposed to (and it has a windscreen!), and the more I think about it, the more I want to get it during early VIP release.

How much longer do you think it should be (In studs) to be in scale with how wide it is?

based on the dimensions of the car I found it needs to be 4 studs longer over all, 1 stud rear or the rear tires, 2 studs between front and rear tires. and 1 stud forward of front tires. that said I would/will personally be leaving the nose as is, and only add the other 3 studs over all.

As a big fan of the F-40 ever since I got one of the posters as a budding teenager, I know I'm getting this one, flaws and all. Overall, the model is an excellent representation for LEGO at the price point. Could it be better, yes, but I am willing to live with a few minor imperfections to get a fine car out of it.

Days ago I said this set could have been a lot better ... now as I've looked over the pictures a lot more times I think that this re-creation of the real Ferrari F40 is phenomenal and captures every little detail. It will look amazing next to the VW T1 Camper Van and the Mini Cooper. So I'm curious what next years LEGO Creator Expert 'iconic-car' will be. Also I love this new 'iconic-car' series that started in 2011 with the VW T1 Camper Van.

I am really looking forward to adding the F40 to my collection. As for the next 'iconic-car' I would like to see a 1960s Citroen DS, but I have a feeling that as they have already made three European cars the next one will be American. So most probably a Mustang or a Corvette.

Reminder, that iconic car series started in 2008 with Volkswagen Beetle http://brickset.com/...lkswagen-Beetle .

P.s.:I'm not curious anymore if they don't stick with one size....

Depends on the vehicle. If they do the Lamborghini Miura SV (lime green parts!) McLaren F1 (imagine its interior and engine bay!), I'm guessing they'll keep it in scale with the F40. If they do the Porsche 959 (imagine its dashboard and wheels!), maybe slightly larger. Edited by XAxles

Maybe they will release iconic car every year like modular buildings.Price point of these cars are very accesible almost for everybody.

But they DO stick with one size? I mean the T1 Camper Van meassures 30 cm in length, the Mini Cooper 25 cm and now the Ferrari F40 27 cm. It sure isn't to scale but still what LEGO does is make them almost the same length so they fit together very nice - for putting on display for example. I like it the way it is, wouldn't want to make them bigger, because then again, it wouldn't match the previous 'iconic-cars' released by LEGO.

Yes, they'll do that (hopefully!).

2008: VW Beetle

2011: VW T1 Camper Van

2014: Mini Cooper

2015: Ferrari F40

... LEGO recognized that there's a lot of demand for these iconic cars, the T1 was the most successful of them to date - to me that's because it has been re-created so brilliantly and cute :)

next years might be a Lamborghini I suppose?

I'm hoping so too. I love my cars, but at the moment there is two that are right on top of my wishlist for LEGO to make into a Creator Expert set:

1. Bugatti Veyron (if they made this, I'd buy three immediately. In fact, it's 10th anniversary is this year and definitely a future classic, who knew?)

2. McLaren F1 (one of the definitive 90's supercars, it's a no brainer. Oh, and it's as old as me believe it or not)

And if they did both, I'd have to clear a load of space on my shelf and build a desert road to recreate the classic Top Gear "Veyron vs F1" race they did in Abu Dhabi

I think a McLaren is more likely given LEGO holds a McLaren license (otherwise how would they have made a couple of McLaren sets in the Speed Champions line). But given Bugatti is owned by Volkswagen, a car company LEGO has had a license for in the past, I'd say it's not entirely out of the question.

But for now, the direction they are going in with the F40 definitely hits all the right buttons for me, and I hope they do more classic supercars so I can have a whole "garage" of them. And at £70, they are much more affordable for me than the high-end diecast model cars I used to collect (a similar size model car can cost >£150). And you can put these together, making them more fun

Oh, lest I forget: TLG might just go full plaid and announce an Audi. Nope, not the R8, the Sport quattro S1 E2, you know, the rally car from the insane 80's drug known fondly as Group B?

I'd like that.

Or a Lotus Esprit. Also a car with angular style that may render well in Lego.

That'd be amazing, let's be honest, there's so many iconic cars LEGO could turn into a Creator Expert set ... the only thing we can do is wait for the unveil of the next one. Can't wait to collect all of them and put it on display together, nr. 3 is joining my collection of 'iconic-cars' mid July :)

Also why doesn't LEGO provide a list of iconic cars and let us vote on the next to turn into a Creator Expert set?

They should step it up, though. I WANT WORKING QUATTRO ALL-WHEEL DRIVE!!!

Though there are literally at least a hundred cars that could be considered to be an "iconic car", the problem is and always will be licensing. Therefor, it's far more likely that we'll see a GTO or a 911 then a GT40 or a DB5.

But being honest, I would kill for a GTO, since in terms of real cars I think the F40 is just meh - a racing chassis with a huge engine covered up to be barely street legal. Ferrari has made some far more iconic cars.

Isn't that what they did for the Beetle?
