I like the new bonnet! The wheel caps are cool too, but maybe you should try them in black.

What keeps bugging me are the orange parts in the chairs. Can you try red....or full black?

Keep up the good work, it's an awesome model!

PS fully red chairs might be an option as well.

I was thinking that the wheel caps should be grey. Although they look good in white, I think they are just a bit too bright. I love the car though!

Grey is definitely worth a try. I was considering grey as well.

I think the Orange seat design really makes them stand out. Please keep them. I also like the sharp contrast white makes on the wheel caps, and white as well as black is a color that masks contours, making the design look slicker. Gray will make everi bend and corner stand out...

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I have been busy this morning incorporating all (but one Jim  ) suggestions.

Looking better, but the door looks a bit weird. As if it is not a solid piece with all those angles.

I have designed new doors (see the end of the post)

Wow, what a moc!

The new bonnet is definitely an improvement. The idea with the rims is nice, but the open ends bugs me a bit.

What are the white pins in the white connectors for the flex axle over the rims?

I woke up this morning thinking exactly the same thing. Somehow I must have been subconsciously been reading your post while I was sleeping  :

I tinkered a bit and came up with this:

I'm still not sold on the white. Others suggested grey and black, that is probably better, but unfortunately those skeleton arms are only available in white.

Awesome work man! You should try other coloured wheelcaps as well. Also, could we have photos of the back? Or is it not finished yet? :P

A picture of the back:

Apparently you can keep the orange seats

Done

Final pictures for today 3/4 view + topview:

Wow the rear of the car looks even more stunning than I imagined! Great view up top too. Those seats look really trendy with black and orange, I only noticed them now. Incredibly realistic, my eyes are drooling all over this car, like a toddler on a lollipop.

I think this could be worth presenting as a Cuusoo/Lego Ideas project. I know it would get my vote at least, and it would be popular among car magazines if some promotions are done.

Again, great work! And so different from most "supercars".

Hi,

I have found a solution for the gearbox. Not only does it work with half empty batteries, it is also 100% reliable (as far as you can test a 100% reliability) and it allows for switching both up and down (my previous versions only switched up.

I have made a video of it in action (it is hosted on flickr, so I think I can't embed the video, if anyone knows how link a video from flickr let me know):

Bonus question:

Which part is used to connect the knobwheels 32072.jpgto the 6L links 2739a.gif?

Probably a micrphone... It's a pretty rare part.. I think it only came in one set about 10 years ago...

I have been wondering if there was a part that could be used for that hole of the knob gears to link it to other stuff, that microphone seems to be it lol.

Great find! I might have to get some of these microphones, because I am messing around with knob gears as well and this might save me some space/looks cleaner.

Just looking at those recent pictures for the first time. I have to say, this might be one of the best looking Lego cars I have ever seen. Everything about it is perfection. I dont know if this has already been answered, but I would love instructions for the gearbox/shifter.

You're fast  and right...

It has become a little less rare though. It is available in a couple of minifigure bags I think.

I have uploaded a LDD file to bricksafe to show the mechanism. I use a slightly different setup, but the basic mechanism is the same. The two bionicle teeth that mesh with the knobgear must be pretensioned with some elastic bands. You can fiddle around with the strength to get optimal performance.

Also I used these: 6538c.gif inside the driving rings for a smoother operation.

Here is the link to the file:

Have fun with it.

Using this microphone to create a really compact 4-speed gearbox was a great idea! I would've never thought of that. I like it. With the smooth axle joint, isn't there a risk of failure when the torque in the gearbox is high?

Going by that (and how the ball part shines in your video), I assume it is actually this part

And not the one from the Belville set Paul Boratko linked which really only came in that set it seems.

I ordered a bunch  (and a few of the Belville as well for when I don't want stuff to shine )

Very exciting!

Realism is bluffing.

The finish is very neat, the curves are clean.

Customized rims are sublime!

Too bad we do not see the mechanics.

This is a beautiful entrèe for this contest, congratulations
