Mestari Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Missing 275 parts... Not too good start, but not too bad either. Thanks for the tip, jantjeuh! Quote
sm1995 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Came across this stunning creation while browsing the "hall of fame" thread, and I have to say that this is one of the finest studless MOCs I have ever seen. The gearbox is very clever but what really gets me is how amazing the body is. The panel positioning is perfect, everything is continous, flowing and integrated. I have seen my fair share of Technic supercars but none of them can even hold a candle to this in terms of styling. Superb MOC Jeroen! Quote
Blakbird Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Am I the only one who is getting very excited to build this? Quote
kandykop Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Do you think one L motor is enough for driving? Quote

Jeroen Ottens Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 That would be slow top speed and low acceleration, but it would probably move. You can check the video for the speed. It is obviously not as fast as the double buggy motor, lightweight RC cars that are out there, but it is still a reasonable speed I'd say. Switching to second gear actually speeds the car up , third and fourth gear are not adding any more speed though . Quote
Kumbbl Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 (edited) Switching to second gear actually speeds the car up , third and fourth gear are not adding any more speed though . because i assume that 3. and 4. gear have other gear ratios than second the following question comes in my mind: where do you think the theoretical higher speed is lost? too much friction or too low torque in these gears for the L-motor so the motor is forced to be slowed down itself? BTW: great car  and i'm eagerly waiting for the BI... i bought extra for this MOC a 8450 Mission set for the needed 2 black 19L flex axles ;-) BTW: these axles are really ultra ultra rare (two days before there were exactly zero available at bricklink - worldwide - and 8450 sets for a reasonable price are also quite rare - luckily yesterday one pops up in second hand market in Germany... Duky Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I will take 16L Black flex axles, with 2x 6538b in black on each side! Don't think it will look "that" bad! Quote

I hoped that switching to higher gears while in motion would help to keep accelerating, but apparently the energyloss in the higher gears is too much. I have taken apart my copy, so I can't test anymore... I do feel sorry for having added two black 19L flexaxles . When I was building the model I never had thought that someone would be crazy enough to spend the time needed to make building instructions. So I did not pay attention to the rarity of the parts I used. In my next MOC's that is something I will take more into account as a boundary condition. I think the black flexaxle in the back can easily be replaced by a 16L and two axlejoiners. The one for the windshield is more difficult though. I have tried that solution, but it will interfere with the bonnet. An asymmetric solution of 1 16L + 1 axlejoiner will work better I think, but of course it is asymmetrical... Quote
Zerobricks Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 A thing I learned in my G500 was that silicone spray makes everything run so much smoother, maybe that would help. Quote

No need for sorries... it is not forbidden using rare parts in MOCs, because it is named MOC and not MOCFYCR (my own creation for your cheap rebuild ;-) nevertheless it would be of course very nice and very obliging if this is taken into account by the designer.... Possibly, maybe one of the BI testbuilders can try this out. It is likely a better solution than the 16L flexaxle with 2 axle joiners. Quote

I just finished building this car this weekend. The lack of speed in 3rd and 4th gears is simply because the motor isn't powerful enough. If you lift the rear of the car up on jacks, it shifts through the gears very nicely with a noticeable increase in speed each time. I didn't use any flex axles for my copy; I replaced them all with aftermarket pneumatic tubing. It worked great. Also don't forget that you can use the ribbed version which is readily available. Blakbird Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I see that you're from the US, Could you let me know where you got your aftermarket pneumatic tubing from? I ordered from BlokBricks in the Netherlands and got enough to last me a long time. Red, white, and black. I regret not getting yellow. Quote
Kumbbl Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I can recommend blokbrick too. Great assortment and fair prices. Top quality hoses, IMHO better than TLG quality... Quote

No need to go international. There is a seller selling 3rd party tubes on Ebay US. I bought yellow from that guys. Quote

Thanks, hopefully shipping isn't too bad. No need to go international. There is a seller selling 3rd party tubes on Ebay US. I bought yellow from that guys. Nice! How transluscent are the yellow tubes? I'd really love to build this car in yellow and black, I think that'd look amazing. Quote

sm1995 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Thanks for the picture :) I don't know if it's the lighting, but it seems like there a slight green-ish tint to the tubes. Does it match the yellow panels closely enough in 'real life'? Quote
kandykop Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 The green-ish is a result of combination of Black and Yellow and lighting. I have to admit the tubes are slightly lighter than yellow panels. It looks OK in real life though. Quote
