Mencot Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 "Well chaps, I suggest we fan out. If you can't read, you can stick with me." The vampire whipped out a pair of spectacles and headed for the section marked Debts & Slights. "Only one of these subjects is the right one, so if someone finds it holler out so we don't go wasting time in other categories." Okay (not ok-ey), Boris thou say that but what is Karl´s responce, your the quest leader this time. But spreading out and look for that what we are looking for sounds good, it would be good if we had any hints what it would be what we are looking for? Keliim though to himself before going to a section,on what Grady said "Henribald hasn't had the kindest life. The younger brother, never the heir, he's served his family valiantly for many years. He lost his wife when their only son was very young, and his son a short time after that to your organization's 'quests'. And it all comes crashing out around Grogmas and the Winter Feasts." " He won't tell me why the time of year depresses him, but Heinrich tells me he's been this way since he was young." maybe the thing answer to what we are looking for will be found in Family History & Journals. Keliim goes over to that section. Quote
bionicle_fanatic Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 "W.... wait, I'm quest leader?" Karl's eyes widened and he took several steps backwards. "Woah... ummm.. I think maybe someone el..." He stopped. Wasn't this what he had wanted? Not really, if he was honest with himself. But that wasn't going to stop him from backing out of such an esteemed position. He'd have to rise to the challenge. "Umm.. Right. I think the most likely places to find it would probably be debts and slights, family history and journals, or possibly shipping records. I'm probably gonna try for the first. But, y'know, feel free to pick which isle speaks to you the most." It felt weird being in charge of a team. He had always been in the background, never in the limelight. Quote
Zepher Posted January 4, 2015 Author Posted January 4, 2015 Karl and Boris both look into Debts and Slights, while Kellim begins to check out the shelves with the Family History. U'Or begins his work in Shipping Records, while Elba and Grady follow Kellim to the Family History section. Grady hangs back a little while Elba and Kellim start to look through the titles of different tomes. "I don't believe he is a strong reader," Elba says to Kellim. Boris and Karl search through the titles in their section, but find very few books that appear to be from more recent years. They open up a few, but they make few mentions of actual members of the family, and most of them are scratched out with the words "PAID" or "FORGIVEN" or "PUNISHED" written next to them. They feel that they are most certainly in the wrong section. Any debts or slights between family members, it appears, would not be here but rather in the Family History Section. Elba and Kellim have better luck. Simply by opening a few pages of various books they see that Henry is mentioned in quite a few tomes. They can tell they're on the right track, but must choose between two distinct set of books. The first is an analytical history of the family, written by a number of historians, a sort of compilation of history. Surely here the details of Henry's life can be found. The other side is a strange set of mismatched books, journals of various family members. The topics range from personal thoughts to favorite recipes. Where will the heroes look? -Analytical History -Assorted Journals Quote
bionicle_fanatic Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Karl plunked the book he was rifling through back on the shelf with considerable force. Then looked at Grady with a feeling of guilt. His frustration at not finding anything that would relate to Hinkwell's depression, coupled with the sluggish pace he was making due to his less than stellar reading skills, was steadily getting him worked up. He took a slow, deep breath and turned to Boris. "I think we're in the wrong isle. There's nothing here," he gestured to the lines of books "which relates to anything troubling enough to disturb Henri like that. Maybe we should head back and held Keliim with the family records. It's the next most likely area." Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 "Sounds good." Approaching Keliim, Boris noted, "Perhaps if we could find something like a journal?" Quote

Keliim took a glance at Gardy and responded, "Yes, I believe that can be true but the concern over his master seems to trouble him also" Then he continues to go through the shelves with books about the family. bionicle_fanatic Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 (edited) Karl mutely invited Boris to look down the Assorted Journals isle with a jerk of his thumb a raised eyebrow. Edited January 5, 2015 by bionicle_fanatic Quote
Zepher Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 Karl and Boris continue to search alongside each other, while Kellim and Elba check the more analytical history. U'Or, apparently dead certain that he's on to something, has a difficult time tearing himself away from the shipping records, even as he tsks and sighs and grows more frustrated. Elba and Kellim peruse the most recent articles to see if Henry is mentioned at all. The most recent tome ends with a mention of a Foundation Ball and a marriage that was called off, and going back the heroes find an account of a stolen magical trophy. Further back still is a tale of Heinrich's rise to the head of the house. Scattered throughout are little mentions of other notable deals and investments, but Henry's name only comes up once or twice in passing. Kellim is on the wrong path. The other heroes are able to find mentions of Henry's name in a myriad of journals. They take note of the ones in which it appears. -Haymitch Hinckwell's Journal, Henry's Father -Harriet Hinckwell's Journal, Henry's Mother -Heinrich Hinckwell's Journal, Henry's Brother -Henry Hinckwell's Journal -Mary Sue Hinckwell's Journal, Henry's Wife -Roderick Hinckwell's Journal, Henry's Son -Lorcan Hinckwell's Journal, Henry's Nephew Quote

Even if Henri read something in one of the others here, he'd still note down his thoughts about it." Karl took down Henri Hinkwell's journal, and proceeded to read through it carefully. Quote

Mencot Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Karl, Elba and Keliim was looking through the Journals, suddenly Keliim looked around himself and asked the others: "Where is Boris? Have thee seen him for a while?" Keliim left what he was doing and went to look for the vampire! Quote
bionicle_fanatic Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Karl was deep in an intriguing story about burnt cakes and a king, or something to that effect, so he just mumbled "Uhuh..." and went back to reading. Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) Boris came to the side of the duo intent on reading the Journal of Henry Hinckwell as well. Edited January 6, 2015 by Waterbrick Down Quote
bionicle_fanatic Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Karl took the tome to a reading table and pulled up two more rickety chairs for his friends to join him. He studied the leaves carefully, turning each one with utmost care. "Not too dusty. Might have been used recently, then.." Quote
Mencot Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Boris came to the side of the duo intent on reading the Journal of Henry Hinckwell as well. "Ah, Boris good. I nearly though thou has gone missing" Keliim sat down beside Karl again looking through the Journal. Quote
Zepher Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 The heroes all crowd around the journal and flip to the beginning, remembering that Henry's sadness in the holiday season started at a young age. But as they flip through the journal they come to realize that there is no mention of anything that would cause sadness. The first few years of the journal are sketchy, but seem mostly happy or are written with a taciturn tone. The only mention of the holidays are some vague and meandering holiday wishes and hopes for certain presents on Grogmas. It appears that Henry has always been too proud to document any sort of disappointment, sadness, or even failure. The heroes flip through the journal a little more, but it's all in vain. They've picked the wrong book. -Haymitch Hinckwell's Journal, Henry's Father -Harriet Hinckwell's Journal, Henry's Mother -Heinrich Hinckwell's Journal, Henry's Brother -Henry Hinckwell's Journal -Mary Sue Hinckwell's Journal, Henry's Wife -Roderick Hinckwell's Journal, Henry's Son -Lorcan Hinckwell's Journal, Henry's Nephew OoC: You each have one guess left! Mencot Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 "There is nothing here" Keliim dashes annoyed the journal aside. "Now we need to think, who would write down everything, from happiness to saddness?" Keliim looks over the journals and "says a mother´s love is the strongest, a mother is always honest!" "Shall we look that through Harriet Hinckwell's Journal, what do thee others think, Boris, Karl?" Quote
bionicle_fanatic Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) Karl resisted the urge to join Keliim at throwing things at other things. Curse his flawed logic! Of course Hinkwell wouldn't want to put his in most thoughts down on paper, where everyone could see them. He swivelled on his chair to turn to the others. "I'm obviously not too good at thinking in other people's shoes, but I think Keliim he the right idea about Henri's mum. However, what if it's not the right book? Will Grady kick us out if so? I'd rather make sure we get Daneeka his book and miss out on some experience than otherwise. How about we each choose a separate book?" Edited January 6, 2015 by bionicle_fanatic Quote
Zepher Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 OoC: Someone else will simply find the right book if you guys don't. This is just for XP. "We're not leaving until we find this answer," says Elba as he rifles through Henry's journal, still sure there must be a missed clue. The heroes can see through the bookshelves to U'Or, now has a large pile of shipping logs stacked next to him one aisle over. Quote
bionicle_fanatic Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Even in his frustration, Karl couldn't help but crack a grin as he saw the U'Kin with his ridiculous pile of scrolls and parchments. There was something quite endearing about him which Karl couldn't quite place. He turned to his friends, took a deep breath, and nodded to Keliim. "I'm with Kel, let's look at Mrs. Hinkwell's journal." Quote
Mencot Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 "I don´t know what has happened here, I don´t even know the history of this family but we might as well find something in the mother´s journal." Kellim nodded back to Karl and glanzed at Boris for his opinion. Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 "Well if we're all in this together..." Boris joined Karl and Keliim over Henry's mother's journal. Quote
Zepher Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 The heroes flip through the mother's journal to Henry's childhood... and find some mentions of a certain Grogmas... many years ago... "Let me see that!" Grady says as he snatches the journal from the heroes and brings it to a nearby table. U'Or wanders over as well. "I was so close!" Elba affectionately shakes his head so only the heroes can see, and Grady starts to read the piece aloud. His voice is halting, and he falters with some of the tougher words, but he makes it through alright. This year for Grogmas Heinrich has asked for a toy boat. It was a great pleasure to see Haymitch swell with pride. He says that Heinrich will make a great merchant some day. Henry's Grogmas wishes disappointed him though. The boy asked Father Grogmas for one of the old family swords. He says he wishes to join Heroica some day, and fight for the good, like Haymitch's great-grandmother Lady Luck. Haymitch told me later in private that no son of his would join Heroica. We are a merchant family, and apparently we must stand strong if we are to keep our grasp on the city. He seems certain that Heinrich will need Henry's help in the future. Father Grogmas will not be bringing him a sword, and my heart breaks. I see so much good in my son. But what am I to do? Grady clears his throat. "Well, there you have it." Before the heroes can react to the stories they hear the sound of small feet rushing towards them! All their activity in the oft dormant sub-basement has bothered its residents. Rats swarm forward, and one hops on the table. U'Or cries out in shock. "Get them!" cries Grady as he starts to kick the rats at his own feet. bionicle_fanatic Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Karl gasped as Grady read out the exert. "No way! Lady Luck was Henri's ancestor?" He frowned. "Wait... so he wanted to join Heroics, but his dad never let him? That was really mean of him, the dirty vermin!" Then the rats arrived. "Ugh! So many of them!" He was used to the creatures, but not in this multitude. Karl swung into action. "Keliim, target the filthy rat. Boris, bash the big ugly one." Karl smashed his vial of venom over his shrunken, then attacked the Big Ugly Rat with it.
