bionicle_fanatic Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 "I..." Karl struggled to keep conscious. He felt like he was about to be sick. The thin but deadly scars from the beast's teeth were burning from their recent forging, further clouding his thoughts. "Keliim.. the Big one.. finish him.. Boris, the poisonous one..." The world thankfully stopped spinning, and the nausea subsided. Karl blew out his cheeks. "That is NOT an experience I want to repeat." He gave the vampire a grateful smile, then remembered he was meant to be giving battle orders. "Right. Yeah. Boris, but back row this round, you're gonna take some free hits. Keliim, see if you..." He noticed the barbarian wrestling the leader rat on the floor. bionicle_fanatic Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) Karl grinned in satisfaction as the rat slumped lifeless to the ground. It wasn't that he enjoyed the killing, more that he was satisfied with the justice dealt. Or so he told himself. Every inch of bitten skin felt like it was on fire, but he pushed it out of his mind, focusing on finishing the vermin off. He didn't need to give battle orders; it was obvious what the team should do. The team... Strange, to be part of a group... almost like family... He mentally jerked himself back to the present, lashing out at the last remaining rat with a fancy kick he'd seen a Ji Pei warrior using on poster outside the theatre. Waterbrick Down Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Boris watched as the last rat was finished off. As the party dusted themselves off the vampire expended 3 ether to heal them all to full health before grabbing the big rat and dragging it behind one of the bookcases. He gave Grady a steely glance. bionicle_fanatic Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) Karl sank to the floor in relief. He hadn't died. He'd fought off a whole hoard of evil... rats. Well, they were big rats, right? At least he hadn't passed out from the poisoning... That was largely due to Boris. He'd have to buy him a drink later, although it didn't really count in the Hall, as everything was free. Grady shot a snarky remark at the team, which Karl was too exhausted to respond to. The man was probably just blowing off steam anyway. He himself certainly felt the need to unwind, but his ideal was a nice long nap and a mug of hot chocolate, not throwing insults. "That was.... Intense. I think I'm just gonna lay here for a while." Edited January 9, 2015 by bionicle_fanatic Quote
Zepher Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 "Sometime's you've got to work with what you've got. Excuse me a moment." To the credit of Elba, U'Or and Grady, none of them so much as flinch when the vampire excuses himself with the rat. "That was.... Intense. I think I'm just gonna lay here for a while." "I don't think you are." Grady sneers. "U'Or, thanks for the help. I've got some shopping of my own to do at the moment. I'll meet you at Guffington's Mansion at the end of the day with your book. But I think your services are done here." Grady shepherds the heroes and their two employers up the staircases and our of Villa. He gives them a curt wave good bye before locking the door behind them. "Well, then." Elba shakes his head. "What a nasty man. The Hinckwells..." he lets the sentence die off before it begins. "Well, since we're done with obtaining your present, U'Or, are we all prepared to go get mine? Karl, I'm sure your fellow heroes could use some of that gold the rats had with them." Elba tosses Karl a few coins that he apparently took off the rats' corpses. Quote
bionicle_fanatic Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) Karl lolled his head to the side to look at the retreating forms of the other heroes, before scuttling over to the dead corpse of the venomous rat. He grabbed a couple of vials full to the brim with venom and stashed them inside his ragged cloak. He didn't think you rat would be wanting them anymore. Grady shepherds the heroes and their two employers up the staircases and our of Villa. He gives them a curt wave good bye before locking the door behind them. "Well, then." Elba shakes his head. "What a nasty man. The Hinckwells..." he lets the sentence die off before it begins. Karl heartily agreed, but didn't say anything; they were standing directly outside their HQ after all. When Elba chucked him the gold coins, he promptly dropped them, and spent a few minutes groveling about in the street to retrieve the precious metal. He finally stood up with them all secure, and glanced at the other two heroes. "Okay... twenty pieces... three of us..." He bit his tongue, trying to do the maths. After a short but frustrating struggle with the numbers that ended up with Keliim getting nearly double what everyone else had, he split the gold into three roughly similar piles. Zepher Posted January 10, 2015 Author Posted January 10, 2015 "Our back up plan?" Elba chuckles. "You heroes are our back up plan. Those rats are exactly the sort of reason we hire heroes! It isn't a safe world out there, you need someone to watch your back." "Regardless, it's time to go collect my present. While U'Or may be friendly with the Hinckwells, I've made the acquaintance a bit of a less stuffy house." "An oft unruly one!" "They're good folk. It's a little known fact about Danneka - he doesn't drink much or drink often, but he does have a particular weakness for Charisan Wines. I happen to know a man who can get us a very old vintage. See, his employers hail from the country, and though they have been exiled they still have a contact or two." "House Shadeaux..." "We are to go meet Samuel Shawe near the hovels. He will no doubt ask for something in return, though half the time with him that's simply sitting down, having a drink, and swapping old tales. Nevertheless, we ought to be off!" Elba begins to lead the others away. U'Or and Boris hang back. "Boris, you said you are from this city you said. What do you think of the Hinckwells, or the Shadeaux? I thank the lords in the heavens every day that I was recruited by Guffington and not the others. Especially with my Dastan homeland I may have been taken in by the Shadeaux, considering how close Dastan is to Charis and my Dastan homeland. I do not have anything against the Count of course, and Samuel has always struck me as a kind if... questionable man if not kind, but one hears stories of course." Elba, meanwhile, leads the way with Keliim and Karl. "Damn politics, huh? We're just trying to get a book and we end up cleaning out the Hinckwell cellars. These damn houses. There is a reason I left the Bonaparte fleet, I'll tell you that. Politics, in my opinion, has no winners and many losers. Guffington's a smart man for keeping his distance from them all. He keeps friendly with all of them that way, and I know he loves that. He can rack in gold alongside any house, and be friends with whomever he likes, no strings attached." He glances over at them. "What about you two? Are you from the city itself, or are you only now realizing the horrors of the tit for tat system we've developed here." Quote
