Karl listened as Elba announced who they were dealing with next, and gave his views on the political position of Eubric. He gave a non-committal jerk of his head, idly fidgeting with a gold piece in his pocket.

"Hinkwells, Bonapartes, Ji Pei... Before all this, they were just another power to avoid, another group not to get on the wrong side of. I never really cared who was in power, as long as they left me long. Now, though," He glanced back at the disappearing Hinkwell villa. "I guess I see them in a new light. Or, I see Henri in a new light..."

He lapsed into silence, contemplating what it must have been like, to have to live a life where you had it all, but we're never allowed to truly do what you wanted. He thought that must be worse even than his own position, because at least Karl was allowed to strive for whatever profession he desired, unlike Henri who was trapped by his deceased parent's wishes.

[Mencot]

"Politics and diplomacy, no I have always left that to other people,people wiser then me. Keep it simple I said..." Keliim goes silent and looks away for a while then responces "but as we all know that isn´t always an option."

"If it was I wouldn´t be here right now. I have always tryd to find the answer in the nature, that was the way of our tribe. Before the war, before I ruler of our people I was studing at the academy to become a druid.I had already learned the ways of nature from young age, teached as a ranger and warrior, living in symbio with nature. But the war changed all... The big man goes silent again.

"Boris, you said you are from this city you said. What do you think of the Hinckwells, or the Shadeaux? I thank the lords in the heavens every day that I was recruited by Guffington and not the others. Especially with my Dastan homeland I may have been taken in by the Shadeaux, considering how close Dastan is to Charis and my Dastan homeland. I do not have anything against the Count of course, and Samuel has always struck me as a kind if... questionable man if not kind, but one hears stories of course."

"'No man can pledge himself to two overseers. He shall be devoted to one and spurn the other, or despise the one and be enraptured with the other. Ennoc and Olegia cannot be served at the same time.' The sixth of Matthias stanza twenty four." Boris quoted in a matter of fact voice. "Like wise one cannot hold the Hinckwells and Shadeaux in the same regards. Both have done their fair share to see to the improvement of trade in this city and some money has made its ways into the coffers of the temples, though mostly for show, but I believe it is the house Shadeaux that works for Eubric's true good. After all, being immigrants themselves I'm sure they are quite familiar with the lot of the wandering individual who finds their way to the shores of this island seeking a better lot in life. I can't speak for all who fly under their banner of course... How came you under Guffington's employment, did you meet here or in your homeland?"

"A simple sentiment, but a wise one. The trouble, of course, is that the big people always end up affecting the little people. But it appears that you already know that." Elba drly chuckles. "But I imagine that's enough talk about politics. We will deal with them when we must, but never more than that. That's why you're at the Hall and I'm with Guffington, instead of employed by one of the houses."

"Yes, yes, the Count is indeed an honorable man, as is his wife. But if I must deal with a house as a whole, I have always found that the Hinckwells have more discipline as a whole. It is nice that you can find enlightenment in your god. I have never found any reverence for the pantheon in Eubric myself. I guess that is one of the things that I lost when I lost when I left Dastan I guess I lost that." U'Or sighs. "Guffington found me when I was very young. He has always been a world traveller. I don't know if you know anything about Dastan, but it has not always been the kindest place for the U'Kin have not always been treated well in Dastan. Recently things have begun to change, but it is still a slow battle. When Guffington visited on one of his trips he became friendly with my father and mother. He offered to give me a better life. It is something I struggle with sometimes, but I believe that both he and my parents made the correct decision."

Elba comes to a halt as someone shouts at him from an alleyway. He backpedals a step or two and then returns the greeting.

"Samuel Shawe!" he calls out, and the man jogs forward. His face is a little red and the heroes can smell that he too has apparently been doing some light drinking. He gives Elba a firm handshake.

"Good to see you, Elba! You too U'Or." Shawe looks the heroes up and down. "Hello, heroes. Good to meet you. Your Hall has got quite a few faces in its repertoire, I was hoping I might run into an old friend, but new friends are good as well. My name is Samuel Shawe. I'll be supplying the fine Captain with some wine today, but I've actually got to ask him a favor before hand." He throw up his hands. "What can I say. I'm sure you were expecting that it wouldn't be free, right Elba? I am a Shawe, after all."

"Of course."

"See, I've got a little bit of trouble. Every year around this time I meet my pal Johnny Everyman for a drink or two, to bring in the new year, talk some shop. You know how it is. But he's no where to be found. He's never no where to be found. I have to admit I'm getting a little worried, and would really appreciate some help tracking him down. He's usually in the Hovels, so I figured that might be a good place to start?"

"Lead the way!"

The heroes set off for the gate leading into the Hovels, led now by Samuel Shawe.

Keliim looks at the man that had joined them, politely greats Shawe but thinks to himself what kind of a man is this and what kinds of shady business does he do.

As the party continues on their journey towards the Hovels, as it seems. Keliims turns to Karl becuase Boris is still speaking with U´or and Elba speaks with Mr Shawe, and whispers to Karl:

"What do thou know about this Mr Shawe and Mr Everyman,thou heard of them, what do they do?"

Boris continued in his conversation with U'or, "I heard a little of the recent unrest going on in the country, but am not very familiar with it's history or culture. Your lot in life does seem a fortunate one." The vampire listened in on the conversation between Shawe and Elba before falling in behind the two as they made their way to the hovels. "So what is Guffington's interest in the city? Why did he decide to settle here?"

[Zepher]

"So what is Guffington's interest in the city? Why did he decide to settle here?"

"I do not know. I believe he was born on one of the Free Islands, but not Uland itself but one of the Free Islands. He came here when he was young. He became very successful. I know he is not as rich as any of the other houses - he can only afford the three of us in his employ - but he is a self-made man, which I believe anyone can respect. I do not know why he came to Eubric though. He does love it here I know he loves it here. He speaks of things such as the smell of the sea, the diverse populace, the sound of the bustling streets." U'Or blushes again. "He is a much more poetic man than I am. Sometimes I worry to leave him in the house alone - I imagine if I did not take care of him he would forget to eat or pay Daneeka or sweep or respond to any of his correspondence."

As the party continues on their journey towards the Hovels, as it seems. Keliims turns to Karl becuase Boris is still speaking with U´or and Elba speaks with Mr Shawe, and whispers to Karl:

"What do thou know about this Mr Shawe and Mr Everyman,thou heard of them, what do they do?"

Karl leaned towards Keliim so as to avoid being overheard. "Shawe's new to me, but I've definitely heard of Everyman before. If only I could remember where..." He furrowed his brow, trying to recall the episode. Everyman... Everyman... It had been something to do with a party... No, a show... But he couldn't place the details. He shook his head in defeat. "Ah well. At least We'll be on home turf here, 'Cuz I know the Novels like the back of my hand."

[Zepher]

As the heroes approach the gates leading into the Hovels two confrontational guards hop up, prepared to stop their entry.

"It's your turn."

"Name and business?"

Samuel Shawe flashes them a business card of sorts, and the two mutter between themselves before letting the heroes through.

The heroes make their way along the interior of the wall, looking around for anyone who might be named Everyman. It soon becomes apparent that just about no one knows where to start searching.

As the heroes make their way through the streets, they arrive at a congregation of people all crying in excitement around a table.

"He's won again!" one of them exclaims.

"It's simple," screeches out a shrill and condescending voice. "You must keep your eye on the cup with the pearl in it. Have any of you tried doing that?"

"I believe that I know that voice! Heroes, Elba, Shawe, if there is a man who will be able to find Everyman, this is the man to find Everyman." U'Or makes his way through the crowd and the heroes follow. "Everstien!"

"U'Or. It is good to see you."

"What are you doing here?"

"I am winning gold from this man. He believes he is able to perform slight of hand, I have found no evidence to support that claim."

The man glowers.

"One more round? Double or nothing again?"

"Certainly." He glances over at the others as the con artist places the pearl under a cup and begins to move them around. Dr. Everstien doesn't even bother to watch. "Hello Captain, hello Samuel, hello heroes." He looks them up and down. "New to the job. Looks like you've already had a battle today. It didn't go as well as you'd hoped." The cups stop moving around.

"Alright wise guy, where is it this time?"

Dr. Everstien barely glances back at the table.

"This time you slipped it into the folds of your robes in a failed attempt to fool me."

"Oh dear... I'm not certain you should be so rude."

"You wants I should kill him?" asks the hired muscle. The robed man shakes his head sadly.

"I didn't want to have to do this. But yes. Kill him. Kill them all. If we can't win their gold, we'll take it by force."

Everstien squeaks in surprise and flaps backwards. Elba grabs U'Or and shoves him behind him, and Shawe backs away a step or two as the two goons approach. The crowd scatters. It is time for the heroes to shine.

"Now listen here Bub, just because Beaky here's a tad smarter than you, doesn't mean you have to go home nursing wounds as well as an empty pocket. No?" Boris swung his mace experimentally before bringing it crashing down on the Street Thug's head from the front row.

Karl sighed. The second battle of the night, this time with a street magician and his hired muscle. Mr. Impossible and Olaf the strongman. All they needed was for Boris to spray some red makeup around his mouth and for Karl himself to do some acrobatics and they'd have a fully functioning circus.

He casually watched Boris knobble the thug, and turned to Keliim. "Let's take out this guy, shall we?" He jerked his thumb in the direction of the magician, before spinning to face him and flinging his shuriken from the back row.

OoC: It appears my Street Magician lost his helmet between shooting the scenes and shooting his icon. I have added SP to him, and a helmet to the drops.

Round One Street Fight

Boris v. Thug - Special Damage (8 Damage, Boris Stunned Special Guard Successful [Roll of 3])

Keliim v. Magician - Hit (6-1=5 Damage)

>Karl v. Magician - Hit (6-1= 5 Damage)

The Street Thug barrels into Boris and tosses him roughly onto the ground. Keliim, however, is able to whack the Street Magician in the side of the head, rattling his helmet and giving him a splitting headache, no doubt. Karl uses his disorientation to his advantage, throwing his shuriken deftly and slicing his arm.

Boris staggered back, a verse about taking another beating to his other side came to mind, but the vampire decided it was best to just be selfish and stay down for a quick moment to regain his breath.

Keliim gets ready for a new attack. Uses his axe on the Magician from the Back row

"I'll be fine just going to lay here a sec." Boris righted himself and used his healing powers upon himself from the back row. "Think you chaps can keep them busy?"

"I've got you covered, guys." Karl sprang forward and aimed a spinning kick at the thug from the front row.

Boris heals self - Heal (+6 health, -1 ether)

Karl and Keliim get roughed up pretty bad though Boris is able to patch himself back up.

Karl silently cursed his poor combat skills as the thug bet him into the dirt. He rolled out of the way of a final punch, grabbing his shuriken as he went."You're so gonna pay for that, big guy."

Karl retrieves his Shuriken

Boris is able to hit the Thug hard, but the Street Magician patches him up and slashes out at Keliim, cutting his arm.
