Robert8 Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 The Brick Fan reviewed the Halloween set: http://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-seasonal-trick-or-treat-40122-review/ Quote
parksroad Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 With the extra pictures, it seems more to me like the porch and grave builds are good but the colors are all over the place. White, purple, green together say "spring," then the randomly bright red spider doesn't really make sense, and then there's some black thrown in. More purple and black would have helped, but there's so much white in the house and the girl's shirt that it just doesn't feel so much like Halloween as a bunch of bricks stuck together. Quote

More purple and black would have helped, but there's so much white in the house and the girl's shirt that it just doesn't feel so much like Halloween as a bunch of bricks stuck together. Anything would have been an improvement. A different torso would complete the witch look and maybe some dark gray instead of the white on the house would look better. I might experiment with some colors when I get the set. Another disappointment of the set is the candy piece. They used the Friends soft serve ice cream piece instead of the much better looking flat white 1x1 tile with the red swirl design used on lollipops. Putting that in the Pumpkin CMF bucket would look great. Edited August 27, 2015 by Legocity2713 Quote
8BrickMario Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 The Wicked Witch of the West's torso could complete the costume well. I would have wanted a new candy print, maybe a chocolate bar on a 1x2 tile? Quote
ResIpsaLoquitur Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I think they went a little overboard in making it look "Halloween." I will say that American households vary in how much they decorate their homes. Some people just put out a jack o'lantern. Others (like me) might go all out with decorations, fake graves, spooky music, etc. Back in April, I bought an extra Easter Egg set and rejiggered it into a front porch that matched the kitchen. I didn't go overboard decorating it--I kept it consistent with the kitchen in terms of colors, and just added a pumpkin. I wish they'd gone with something a little more muted that matched the previous set. That might work for future seasonal themes--make them interlocking with Technic pegs so that you can build a larger house that showcases different seasons of the year. Quote
8BrickMario Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I think she's trick-or-treating at a haunted house, not a decorated one. Quote
Kretnica Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Will the Halloween set last until they sell out or will they be available until actual Halloween? I'm thinking of Lego stores, not S@H. For how long are these smaller seasonal sets usually on sale ? Cheers for the info Quote
Lego Dino 500 Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 This is awesome, I can't wait for 40138. It's been 9 years since the last Christmas Train. Quote

Cheers for the info If I recall correctly, the Valentine's Day set sold out pretty quickly at my store, but the Easter set actually did last until Easter. Since this one's released a full two months before Halloween, though, I kind of doubt it will last the entire time. Quote
Borex Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Gingerbreadhouse. Hopefully i can put my fairytale cmf figures in it! Quote
fred67 Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 This is awesome, I can't wait for 40138. It's been 9 years since the last Christmas Train. Pretty sure it's a mini train, like the Emerald Express, not a "real" train. I suspected that from the first time I heard about it, and the set number bears that out. Quote
CM4Sci Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 (edited) First picture of the Anglerfish Monthly Mini Build.. eh and the Christmas Train Edited August 28, 2015 by CM4Sci Quote
Legocity2713 Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Thanks for posting CM4Sci. The fish is not bad and as for the train I'm a bit disappointed. Didn't really like that Christmas train polybag from a few years back either, but atleast this time around there are some cool pieces. I don't have high hopes for the gingerbread house now either as it will most likely be miniature and not minifigure scale as well. Do you have the calendar btw CM4Sci? If so, do you mind posting it somewhere? Please… Quote

Legocity2713 Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Thank you so much man. Ooo, those VIP points are 4 days only? Odd, but I'll only need one day. Quote
TheLazyChicken Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 The train isn't that bad but too bad it's not minifigure scale... Quote
fred67 Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 The train is pretty bad, IMO. The wheels are like what they used on the mini Hogwart's Express, and it's really not good - but I agree it's got interesting parts. The dark green slopes and red windows are interesting, and I surely wouldn't mind getting them for "free." Now, I've never done the monthly mini build - my kids were never that interested and are now too old, but it looks like some cool parts on that angler fish, too. The wing pieces and the tail are interesting. Quote
just2good Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 The train is like an update to that polybag one from a couple years back, but I wish it was minifigure scale (or just minifigure-fitting). All the other threshold holiday promos have been like that (since they started in 2011). Quote

dr_spock Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 Train is ok. It's like one those trains to rent or hire for kid parties. I would MOD it to fit minifigures. 4 wide is enough width for them like this: Friends Party Train by dr_spock_888, on Flickr Quote
sunhuntin Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 what parts would be used to make a track for that train? just a basic oval or similar. Quote
