legofanatic12 Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 (edited) Maybe a Vampire Hunter minifigure could be a villainous hunter since a S2 Vampire and a Lady Vampire in this series looks like heroic unlike the ones from MF Theme. Not all Vampires are bad, but some of them they are good to help people who got trapped and lost rather than biting people. Edited February 21, 2015 by legofanatic12 Quote
Robert8 Posted February 22, 2015 Author Posted February 22, 2015 (edited) That's not going to happen, especially when the pictures weren't intended for release. But it's one themed series that's trying to take advantage of having a lot of Halloween LEGO out at the same time. I never saw anyone complaining about the Monster Fighters villains being obvious rehashes of the CMFs, But MF and the CMF are different themes. Here the CMF theme is copying itself. I would be ok with this Halloween themed series, if all the minifigures had been new monsters. like this one: You just need to give a look to the "predictions" thread or the suggestions on this thread to see is actually possible to get 16 new monsters Edited February 22, 2015 by Robert8 Quote
vexorian Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Here the CMF theme is copying itselfWe always have this discussion when a new CMF series has a new version of a previous one.But really, this theme has gone on for 5 years already. Most of the children that will buy this series probably have no idea series < 10 even existed. Quote
CMP Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Most of the children that will buy this series probably have no idea series < 10 even existed. I think you should have more faith in children these days. Most know how to count to 10. Quote
vexorian Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 99% of Series 1 for example was probably only purchased by scalpers and AFOLs thinking that it was going to be a one time deal. Most kids would not have figures similar to those in series 1 without repeats. Quote

8BrickMario Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 (edited) A series of all new monsters would begin to fall into obscurity and be less popular to kids. The most recognizable and iconic monsters (witch, Monster, mad scientist, zombie, werewolf. vampire) have all been included with new designs that kids would want to collect. And again, these monsters serve as a way for kids who have missed out on the previous CMF monsters and/or Monster Fighters to get some in this series. If we had a new series including Phantom (opera), Sea Witch, Skeleton Man, etc, some of them could veer out of Halloween territory and some would be less known to children and would be overlooked for more well-known monsters. By remaking some recognizable monsters, LEGO adds diversity to the monster archetypes they've done before, and gives a way for newer collectors to get some spooky figs. I don't hate this series, but I do wish there were fewer (read:none) costumed characters. Edited February 23, 2015 by 8BrickMario Quote
gedren_y Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Phantom of the Opera, like my CMF wish Scarlet Pimpernel, is a bit of a stretch. Easily doable, but character recognition among kids could be a mitigating factor. Quote
Robert8 Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 So, you want a Licensed Theme? If done appropriately, it could be released in a regular CMF series, like the Swamp Creature was a non-licensed version of the Creature of the Black Lagoon, a Universal monster. Quote

But that's not even a non-liscensed version of something else, that's just straight up Jack Skellington from Disney's Nightmare Before Christmas. Quote
MAB Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 (edited) If Series 14 had five or six Halloween themed characters but then covered other ground, I think that would be a success. After all, Series 11 had three strongly Christmas themed characters and a few that might stretch for it. I think series 14 will be a good seller. It is themed pocket money toy and coming out at the right time of year for that theme. I think mixing it up, having half monsters then half regular CMF completely unrelated would have been a terrible idea. They couldn't market it as a halloween theme, as kids would be disappointed if they wanted halloween figures and got a fitness instructor. I was hoping they would forget the Halloween-themed series after the poor reception the pictures got..... but it seems that wasn't the case Anyway, I'll pray the designers will be visited by 3 ghosts this night and tomorrow they will rectify about that horrendous idea. Maybe they decided to keep it going after the positive reception it got. Although as they were not official photos, and no doubt the parts have all been made already anyway it'll go ahead as planned whatever the reaction to the unofficial leaks. Actually, I wonder if this Series 14 is a reboot of the CMF theme: they are rehashing a lot of minifigures under the excuse of a themed series. I don't see that many rehashes. I see transformations of the characters into monster forms, but not rehashes. Sure the witch, and the (rock) monster are rehashes, the zombie business man is probably a rehash too, but the zombie cheerleader, pirate, etc are not rehashes to me. Borex Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 I like Lego is trying something new with this cmf concept. And i like they've chosen for a halloween theme. Although the leaked pics were a bit messy indeed, i will most definately buy me some characters. Quote

The Monster, Mad Scientist, Witch, Zombie(s), Werewolf, and Lady Vampire have all been done before at least once. But I feel like these characters are unique enough to make them less "rehashes" and more "reimaginings" Quote
Cagast Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Lady Vampire was never part of CMF. I don't see that many rehashes. Werewolf, witch, rock monster, some zombies (they didn't change pirate captain much, eh), scientist.....there are many rehashes. And who knows what the five other figures are, they could put so many new monsters that haven't been done before. But now only 3 out of 11 minifigures are original, that were never made before. I' m only excited for the Plant guy. Quote
8BrickMario Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 But a female vampire has been made rather recently, albeit in the MF theme. I would like to see some new monsters, but I think two or three of the five will be costumes instead. Quote

8BrickMario Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Don't ask me. But since there are three explicit costumed characters already, I would expect a couple more to balance it out. Quote

I like the fact that the pirate captain doesn't change much, he is the same character after being transformed into a zombie. If they changed the colour of his coat, or a completely different outfit, then that would not be possible. Same with the lumberjack, it's great that he is wearing the same shirt. He is the same person, just after transformation into a werewolf. For the same reason, I would have preferred the zombie cheerleader to be wearing the blue vest rather than the new one. The rock monster is a pretty clear rehash - essentially just another monster but with a guitar. Same for the witch, it is just another witch (even though new). To me, the transformation characters offer much more than the rehashes. Edited February 24, 2015 by MAB Quote
Cagast Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 To me, the transformation characters offer much more than the rehashes. I agree, they have better parts. I still don't see zombie businessman as a transformation. Since these are prototypes, I hope they make him look more like series 8 businessman. It would fit with other transformations. Quote
8BrickMario Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I think "prototype" is the wrong word. Most of these look fairly final, so it's likely that only a few colors or accessories will be changed or added. I wouldn't expect any major differences, since these designs are too clean to be prototypes. For LEGO, the term usually refers to the earliest stages of development, where new molds haven't been completed and characters are still quite far from what the final product would look like. Here? These came from the factory in China, which means the parts are already in production. Quote
9v system Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I don't understand why people like this series. the monsters look really bad with the exception of the tiger girl as she is quite good. I can understand why kids will like it , but what about us, what if we don't like the series, then what do we do? Quote
8BrickMario Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Not everyone will have the same opinion. Some people can't quite understand the level of hatred the series is getting, either. As for what to do? Speak with your wallet and don't buy the figs if you don't want them. I will avoid the Simpsons Series 2, but I'm sure there are enough people excited for it and looking forward to buying some. Quote
obsidianheart Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 (edited) but what about us, what if we don't like the series, then what do we do? Don't buy it.You don't have to understand why some people like it, but you probably should accept that some do. I get that a lot of you think this is a bad series (because 3 or 4 of you bring it up at least 5 times per page), but I think it's pretty cool, and this hardline stance that you guys have taken that anyone who likes it is dumb is frustrating. *EDIT: Sorry, I was a little too antagonistic, language-wise. I apologize. Edited February 25, 2015 by obsidianheart Quote
8BrickMario Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I agree. I understand that the series has been rather unpopular for various reasons (unoriginality, theming, being numbered, theming, unoriginality), but the constant venting has gotten old quickly. I am not innocent of that, though, and I want to apologize for "white-knighting" the series, as I may have come off as pushy and overly defensive in my enthusiastic support for the series. I shouldn't try to make people see things the way I do. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but once the opinions are known, it admittedly gets grating to hear them again. But is there anything else to discuss other than the reactions? I suppose it'll be a long while until we see the rest, but is there more to talk about? That's the problem. Besides guessing games and comments on how you feel about the series, there's not much left. (And to the detractors, I will give them the "rocker monster" argument. I mostly want it for the stitched brow, otherwise it's a lame concept, even if it does try to reference "Monster Mash".) Quote
