I also hate the Crazy Scientist's Pepto-Bismol flask. They had so many other colors to choose from, and they choose solid pink? It doesn't bring to mind anything related to the Horror or Halloween theme like green, orange, or even purple would. I know it may be a lot of fuss over details, but it's those kinds of details that help me decide if I should buy those figures in the first place.

If only he had a surgeons knife and the spots on his suit were red. But that might be a bit too scary for them kids.

I get that. I really appreciate that at least four of the characters in this series are brand-new monsters, though. If all of them were repeats, I would have had much less interest. But since we've never had a gargoyle, Fly, Grim Reaper, or a humanoid (or female) ghost, I'm satisifed.

But I do understand the want for a more diverse series. On the other hand, everyone has different interests. I didn't like Series 10 as much because it had too many present-day civilians in it (although the wonderful Medusa made up for it in spades), and I really liked S11, 12 and 13 for its fantastical and historical characters. Even though this series is more specific, LEGO must have seen a demand, and took the opportunity to have this and Scooby-Doo sharing shelf space. If there were a Western or Pirates series, I would be disappointed because of a lack of seasonal, fairy-tale, or space characters.

There were some series with a dominant theme among series 1-13

Series 3 - Sports

Series 6 - Fantasy

Series 10 - City

With this series, despite being a Horror themed series, it seems they wanted to include other subthemes of the CMF theme

-Gargoyle: Castle subtheme

-Zombie Pirate: Pirates subtheme

-Tiger Girl: Costumed characters subtheme

-Bigfoot: Fantasy subtheme

-Zombie Cheerleader/Businessman City subtheme

-------------------------

About the Specter/Ghost, I've been reading some speculations about him/her being a ghostly version of a previous CMF, as this series seems to include monsterized versions of some of them:

-S8 Pirate Captain -> Zombie

-S5 Lumberjack -> Werewolf

- ????? -> Ghost

Even one of the posters was specific enough to point out that this Specter would be a ghostly version of a warrior CMF

Of course, there wasn't any reliable source for this. So it's just speculations but I think that's an interesting point.

Lego is all about fantasy violence, where the figures just break apart, free of blood and gore. For this reason I can see why they haven't introduced a red version of the flask. However, they've included body parts and even a shrunken head in some liscensed themes I believe, so I don't see why it would stop them here, but who knows. Maybe it'll happen eventually. It's just that it's the #1 color variation I want to see, whether it's solid red or trans-red, so not seeing it in a theme that it would be perfect for kinda stinks.

I skipped most of Series 10 for that reason as well, though I am kicking myself for not getting a Bumblebee Girl. I want those wings...

"Monsters" is a broad concept with many interpretations as to what a "monster" is, as you can tell by Lego's selection of 16. Many of the figures seem to touch territories of other themes, as Robert8 mentioned. So if they were to create another series with a certain theme, they would have to have at least have winks towards other themes so there's some diversity within. I don't expect Lego to ever make a Western or Pirate theme since those seem too restricting to me, as there isn't enough creative space to make 16 unique figures. This series at least has some nice variety of "Monsters," except for the Zombies, so I can't complain too much about it.

I agree though, LEGO saw the opportunity to take a risk, and it definitely has to do with the September release being so close to Halloween. It's the same reason we saw Santa in S8 and the Gingerbread Man and Holiday Elf in S11, because their releases aligned with holidays that were best suited for those figures. I think the problem for me was we saw the "worst" figures first, so that may have caused me to have too much negativity early on.

On another note, Lego sure does love their new headpiece molds. I'm impressed by them for sure, but I hope they at least introduce one new holdable accessory in there. I'm interested to see what certain characters would be holding as accessories, like the Fly Monster, Gargoyle, Tiger Woman and Man-Eating Plant, or if they'll go the way of the Hot Dog Man and Unicorn Girl, where they have enough appeal or details that a holdable accessory isn't necessary for a successful figure.

Perhaps you'll get that red flask with the Lady Vampire? Although, I think it's more likely for her to have a golden goblet or a trans-red chalice.

Here are my guesses for accessories we haven't seen (most of these are just wishful thinking):

Crazy Witch: Skirt, maybe a broom

Bigfoot: Camera

The Fly: Wings, nothing else (unless they make a new swatter piece  )

Grim Reaper: new scythe piece (please!) and/or hourglass, cape

Lady Vampire: Any kind of goblet, spider

Zombie Pirate Captain: cutlass

Werewolf: Wolverine claws (white)

Specter: none

Gargoyle: wings (either Man-Bat arms or Chima bat wings)

Skeleton Boy: Skull mask (Space Police)

The hourglass is a pretty neat idea, but I think that's more related to Father Time than to the Grim Reaper....

I wouldn't be surprised if the Tiger Woman comes with a whip

I don't know. Hour glasses are pretty commonly associated with the Reaper. Death of the Discworld has an hour glass for every living thing, it's pretty common for the Death card in tarot parks to depict Death with one and there were multiple pirate flags that used a skeleton with an hour glass, or sometimes just an hourglass alone, to represent death.

If the Witch does get a broom in addition to her black cat and cloth skirt, then it would be a nice bonus. I could see her without one, too.

Maybe the ghost/specter would get a ball-and-chain, or perhaps those lightning-bolt pieces in a new color?

Would the Zombie Businessman get a hairpiece? I'd leaning more towards no. Probably a briefcase and newspaper for accessories, though it's a bit formulaic.

I would be down for the Reaper to get an hourglass or a scythe. Both sound awesome.

Also wouldn't mind the Lady Vampire getting a new version of the vampire cape, in two parts like the Wizard, so it's easier to fold. That and a Bellville-style goblet.

I'd like to see Bigfoot get a ham piece with a bone sticking out of the end, like the Butcher's steak, as an accessory. That would be nifty.

I never understood why someone would be a completionist. The great thing about cmf series is that there is always some figs you like/need and some you don't. Why would you buy stuff you don't like?

To answer your second question first (and to be a wise guy), "to be a completionist." I understand the mentality all too well... I didn't buy Market Street, for example; I thought it was just ugly. But then I got into the modular buildings, and it's the only one I don't have. As far as CMFs go, I LOVE my fairly-complete display. My interest in them is waning, and I wasn't interested in, for example, the LEGO Movie series - so I only got the ones I want, but so far I've got all the regular series and both Simpson's series, either on display or waiting for me to build more display, and all the displays together is something to behold, with 13 regular series + 2 Simpsons series, that's 240 figures so far.

I've all the minifigures in all the series. Twice.

And I like it.

This is the last picture I took of my CMFs, back in January. It's missing Series 13 and Simpsons 2; I also did not care for the LEGO Movie figures. I also didn't get TGB. But I can sometimes just walk up to those shelves and stare at and scan through all the figures - sometimes I do that just to get ideas for MOCs to build around them.

So except for TGB and the LEGO Movie, I've got them all on display, and I have complete sealed sets of them all for posterity (except Simpsons 2)... maybe I'll donate them some day, maybe give to grand kids (my kids are teens now, not very interested in LEGO). Maybe make a fortune. Who knows. But I also have collected a TON of the figures to use in building my own stuff - so when I do that, I just get the ones I want, but I do want complete series.... however...

I used to be less good and thorough about feeling bags. Now, I don't get multiples unless I want them (I'll need another Zombie Cheerleader to color her hairpiece red and black). But the rest I think I can do with one.

I have decided that what I have is enough - I probably should have stopped at series 10; that's a nice round number to have all complete series, but as I said, my interest is waning, so for the first time since series 3 (except the LEGO movie), I didn't order a case for Simpsons 2 - I just felt packs and traded for what I couldn't find, and have enough to display and a few extras I can use for fun. I think with series 14, I'll just be getting a few of the ones I want; I'm not sure, though, because 14 would make an even number for displays (each display case has two series), but I may just fill it in with the figures from the LEGO Movie I did get, plus some of the series 14 ones - I don't know. But yeah, my CMF completionist days are over.

The gargoyle, the spectre and the grim reaper might be the most interesting minifigs of this series (and I like the gargoyle head piece ver ymuch) but I don't place my expectations to high as looking at the first leaked image of some minifigs, they are all too cartoonish and funny style so I fear Lego might ruin the gargoyle or spectre with stupid, smiley face print or some less detailed body prints.

I wonder about skeleton guy's head from this leaked images. In my opinion this head isn't proper for skeleton. So - from which minifigure it could be?

It's going to be monster fitness instructor, isn't it? :-)

Regarding rehashes - I'm fine with them as long as they designed well and have something that's unique about them compared to their predecessors. Keep in mind many people haven't been around since the theme's beginning (I didn't start buying figures until around series 8), so they may miss out on older series. When Series 13 rolled around, I was stoked to get the Samurai and Disco Diva because I missed out on the Samurai Warrior and Disco Dude in series prior, and felt they were better than their predecessors.

I'm also fine with them, if they have parts I can use. For example, your "Ocean Warrior" in the signature tab. To me that is just a rehash of the Ocean King and the Roman Soldier. Yet it would give another fish tail, probably another bare chested torso and a new colour Roman helmet. Which would be perfect.

-The Specter's face

-The Skeleton's

Or maybe it's misprinted and that's why it looks odd.... especially the eyes.

Well, it's actually not a proper skeleton, is it? We have skeletons - they are not full figures with painted on ribs, they are "actual" LEGO skeletons. That should lead us to believe that it's a skeleton costume, not a skeleton... so it may not look right for a skeleton head, but I think it looks OK for a skeleton mask (or white face makeup). Which, of course, is why I don't like it. I want the ones I can actually use as monsters.

Found this for sale on eBay today. If you want to find it just search "Lego big bad wolf"

Edit: never mind. This is the monster fighter wolf, the "grandma visitor" pairing threw me :shrug_confused:

Is there any more leaked images of this series?

Not yet...

Just the picture with 11 minifigures, the Fly Monster headpiece and Gargoyle headpiece

Oh, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Lady Vampire's cape! So cool, the way it's printed! Crazy Witch's skirt looks like a reuse of Ewok Village Leia's, and I'm glad she has a broom. That treat bucket is a marvelous reuse of the clay pot piece! I would have never predicted that.

I'm very excited to see the rest, although now I'm worried that the stupid-looking screaming face is the Specter's...

NICE! So it's definitely a guy in a skeleton suit, not a skeleton, and that's interesting, I suppose. I do like the Vampire lady, as I never got anything like it during Monster Fighters. HATE Frankenstein rocker, HATE it; if they'd have just given it a normal face, I could use the guitar for something else, but no, they had to give some goofy expression, making it useless.

So the skeleton has legs printed on the side rather than on the front. Shame, I was hoping the previously leaked fig was incompletely printed. Oh, well. At least the head looks good.
