williejm Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I think you were caught up on the fact that I used the word 'bull' because the word is unavoidable when describing what a minotaur is. I didn't think I needed to specify that a female minotaur would have the female cow parts. :p hmmm. Since a defining feature would be udders, that might be interesting. Quote
telaruhn Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 And that is why lego would need to slap lipstick on it, to make sure the point that she is female is well and truly made. It used to be that the Minotaur was a specific character, the half-bull of Minos. Yet reasonably modern fiction has turned it into a minotaur, any half-man half-bull (or maybe half-woman half-cow). Same with Medusa, she was a specific character but now seems to represent any snake woman / snake-haired woman. Who knows, in 1000 years time maybe a kardashian will be anyone with a large bum and an elsa will be any mythical creature that can create ice. I feel like the lips/eyelash facial recognition on female figures is only there because almost everyone would assume the figures were male if they weren't there. Especially if they can't/don't have what's considered 'female' hair. It's become something of a mainstay in everything we see, whether it be cartoons, action figures or other media. So I wouldn't really blame lego for including lips especially if it's the only thing that indicates that a given figure is intended to be female. You bring up an interesting point - but because of modernized interpretations, these characters can be generalized without really affecting original variations. Especially since Lego's Minotaur has hooves and an axe, while the Medusa has a snake tail. Original mythological variations had none of those features. And that's beauty of interpretations - they explore what a character could be if their original ideas are altered, and the results are still entirely in the eye of the beholder. And it may just be easier to name all snake-ladies Medusa and bull- and cow-people Minotaurs because that's the most recognizable name for them, as opposed to Gorgons, etc., or other names that are made specifically for their fabrication. hmmm. Since a defining feature would be udders, that might be interesting. Also an interesting point. Though I'm not sure she would have udders, only a cow's head and feet. But it does give me an idea for a "Cow Lady" as a costumed figure, with a cow hood, and the udder piece being a new mold that attaches at the hip, and maybe with a cow tail at the other end. Could be quite funny if done right. Quote
gedren_y Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Now I am flashing back to a Black Adder episode. I believe it was in the second series that the Nanny character dressed in this ridiculous cow costume with lots of udders. Wasn't the Minotaur supposed to be the son of King Minos? The snake tail Medusa comes from the old Ray Harryhausen design in Jason and the Argonauts. The term for the this type of creature is gorgon. There were several women transformed like Medusa, but her ability made her a more remembered figure. Quote
escortmad79 Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Just know that the quality may be bad because these are made in china now. The quality of the recent series has improved greatly on the early ones. The weird smell is no longer there for a start Quote

8BrickMario Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 (edited) Not if they give him a mask that only reveals his eyes. They can't do that since he's wearing a grey hood. Perhaps it's double-sided and has a more skeletal face? Because I can't belive LEGO would give GR a screaming babyish face instead of a menacing skull. So that leaves it to the Specter, which means that the translucent poofy hair won't be in S14...I need answers! Ideally, that head wouldn't appear at all in S14, but they probably wouldn't do that. telaruhn Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 I'm half-hoping that white head is part of the Specter, but more the likes of Casper the Friendly Ghost than a shrieking ghost woman, despite the name suggesting something more horrifying. I can't see that head being used for much else. And it's my last hope for the use of the genie tail mold in white. Considering the playful take on the characters we've seen so far, it seems plausible. *fingers crossed* Quote

crossmr Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 it would be nice if lego produced enough to meet demand. I came into the last one late and my kid wanted a unicorn. They are going for like $20 because everyone was out feeling up bags the moment a box got opened anywhere. Quote

It is just that customers decide which ones should be removed from circulation to decrease the supply at retail price. Quote
8BrickMario Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) That white head reminds me of the "Scream" mask, which has become quite ubiquitous in Halloween costume aisles. It is indeed like the Ghostface mask. But LEGO won't make a serial killer minifigure, so it's probably the literal ghost face. I too am hoping for the Genie tail in white, since he/she seems friendly if that's its face. If it were more malevolent, I'd expect the ectoplasmic Ninjago ghost bottom. EDIT: Here's a crazy idea: What if the Scientist's head is actually a hat on a regular head? Perhaps the fringe of hair and the goggles would cover up the "seam" between the real and fake heads, and the rest could be an elaborate hat. I know it's probably not the case, but I sort of prefer the idea of him having a normal head and hat instead of a specially molded one. Edited July 15, 2015 by 8BrickMario Quote

It looks like the headpiece does fit over a regular head. It will make the piece at least slightly more versatile, because you can use it on different heads. And it makes me wonder what the head underneath looks like, if there is one... Quote

8BrickMario Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 It seems to vary. France says October, but it seems that the US gets them in September. Quote

You do realize he ripped someone's heart out, literally, in Temple of Doom. Not to mention the whole movie was about child slave labor and burning people in lava. The Temple actually made it to a LEGO set form. Not to mention the cannibals from the POTC sets. Quote

I feel like Lego give 'sanitised' versions of these elements. Like, the Nazis in Indiana Jones didn't have any swastikas. The cannibals were glorified Islanders with cartoon bone accessories. The Temple of Doom set featured zero burning hearts. A Serial Killer, though... I have a very hard time sanitising this for the Legoverse. Quote

He beheaded Vitruvius on-screen with a coin and it is implied that he was the cause of the deaths of many master builders, according to Metalbeard's story in the film, so it's certainly not a thing unheard of in the "official LEGO universe". That's a technicality. They've made the Joker, too. LEGO wouldn't make an explicit serial killer whose only character is that they kill people. Honestly, the mystery face only bears a passing resemblance, and the shadows of the eyes seem to be incorrectly printed. Quote
Commander Strax Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 I'm hoping series 14 could be revealed this Saturday, as the Argos catalog is coming out this Saturday. This catalog did previously reveal series 12 so fingers crossed for a reveal on series 14. Quote
Commander Strax Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I've looked in the Argos catalogue which I got today and there is no full reveal but there is a revel of what the mad professor looks like. He looks the same as the prototype, but he has a moustache and a purple flask with a fly on it. Quote
