The Specter and the Grim Reaper are two entirely separate characters. Both will have hoods, but the grey one is the Specter's, while I imagine the GR will have a black one. They probably did it to mess up bag-feelers.

I just noticed the Spider Lady's new scalloped collar! I was hoping they'd do that, but I didn't see that they did!

For what it is, the Specter's okay. I love the idea, and the face bothers me a lot less than it did before. He's a playful spook trying to act scary. I think the MF theme is for the scary monsters, but CMFs are more lighthearted by nature.

I can see so many forest MOCS with the Bigfoot minifigure.

Now the question remains: whose wild hair were we looking at before?

These look mostly good. I'm not a fan of Bigfoot or the Specter, but everyone else is great. For Bigfoot, they should have given him the new two molded legs--so that his flesh bottom half, with their printing, would look like giant feet. On the Specter, the thing that kills it for me is the face. It's just awful; it looks like a parody, and worst of all it reminds me of those horrible contorted face meme drawings. I do however think all of his individual parts are good, it's just the combination that doesn't work.

Even more disjointed thoughts and observations from someone who clearly can't pay close enough attention the first time  :

Just realized the Gargoyle can join the "minifigures with noses" club. I do wish they had been more thorough with the stone speckles and cracks, but that might have been too expensive.

I can see why people hate the Specter, but for some reason, I can't. I do agree that a ghost like him should be threatening, but I can't be too upset. Perhaps it's relief that it's not the GR's head, or maybe I'm envisioning everyone in the monster party scene I plan to set up.

I love the vine curling around the Plant Monster's leg and foot. Great printing there.

Bigfoot needs more printing. Why does the Yeti look hairier than his cousin? I do love his toes, though.

I like the foggy effect of the Spider Lady's cape. Much better than it would have been if it were fully transparent.

Zombie Businessman lost his newspaper somewhere along the development!

I'm really looking forward to this series! It seems like the designers went all out, and all those new pieces... The gargoyle is a definite day one buy, along with the fly and the specter and maybe the skeleton guy. the level of detail is like nothing the collectible figure series has seen before.

It's interesting to read the comments here. I originally was really psyched with the gargoyle headpiece, but after seeing the final product I may be the only person that doesn't care for it. I'll pick up one, but I won't army build like I originally intended. I think the wings should be more folded back. I do like the idea of them using these for flying monkeys if that ever gets created.

The bigfoot looks decent. It was safe to say they'd re-use that headpiece. I'll probably pick up a couple of him. Skeleton trick or treater may be the best in the bunch for me. I'll pick up a handful of him for sure. The spectre has a few neat pieces so I'll pick him up. The face could use some work, so I do agree there.

Well, we're down to only four females. Unless the Fly or Grim Reaper are somehow girls, we've only got the Tiger Girl, Crazy Witch, Spider Lady, and Zombie Cheerleader. Odd, since the number's been consistent since Series 6.

There is nothing consistent in this Series 14, compared to Series 1-13. So, I'm not surprised.

It looks uninspired, to say the least.

I think it could have been way better than this

Not to be rude, but I think we understand your distaste. I get that you dislike this series, but such continued venom just seems needless and unhelpful.

As to uninspired, I think they were going for "recognizable". It's a classic gargoyle.

I know what you mean but that particular post wasn't exactly an opinion, but a fact.

This Series 14 is different to Series 1-13. It's true :classic:

As for "The Fly", we know its name can't be "The Fly" since that's a licensed character.

I've seen him listed as "Mutant Bugman", including that site that posted this pics. I wonder if that is the actual name.

My problem is that they need to choose: A) someone in a costume (like the skeleton costume), B) a "real" monster, or C) Ambiguous.

Because of the torso (or lack thereof) of the specter, it can only be a "real" monster... but they gave it a cartoony, mask-like face, as if it was a costume.

It just doesn't fit.

I am a bit disappointed in the series, overall, but then I'm a grumpy middle aged guy, not a 7-12 year old kid, so I realize they are trying to make a "fun" Halloween set, and not a scary one.

Maybe the actual name for that Fly monster could be either "Fly Mutant" or "Mutant Flyman". The Fly is actually a series of novel that was written by James Clavell.

About the Specter; think Casper the Friendly Ghost, without the licensing fees. The wispy leg piece would probably have been better swirled from white to trans-clear. I can think of a few uses, though.

The Specter reminds me of the mischievous (but not malicious) ghosts from the old Disney cartoon "The Lonesome Ghosts" with Mickey Mouse and gang.

Only wearing a hood.

I totally agree. I hated the series because of that. But these figs look great, I change my opinion. Gargoyle is amazing, I love his printing!! I know it's impossible, but I hope this is unfinished Bigfoot. No body or leg printing? What?

And I don't know if it's just me, but some facial expressions look wrong. Zombie business man should have more scary face (similar to the old zombie), Specter's face is just so weird.

Mutant Bugman rumor came from Brickipedia so I don't trust it. Also if you click on the link it redirects you to "The Fly" page. There is no legit source the fly's offical name is Mutant Bugman.

Fly might be good for Baxter Stockman. (RIP TMNT 2012 - 2014) It took us long enough to realize that there wouldn't be *sniff* any new sets :cry2:

Also, is that a new camera piece for Bigfoot or is he holding a weight? Looks more like a weight to me.

Not sure if this has been noticed, and we must allow for typos ( since the Bigfoot is called a 'square foot') but the listing of characters on the Argos instore scenes suggests one figure is a 'Banshee'. That could explain both the big hair we haven't yet seen and a fifth female?

The list is :

Crazy scientist

Fly monster

Wacky witch

Gargoyle

Monster rocker

Spider lady

Banshee

Spectre

Skeleton guy

Square foot ( ... Must be Bigfoot!)

Tiger woman

Werewolf

Zombie pirate

Zombie cheerleader

Zombie businessman

Plant

Which implies, if correct, that the spectre with gray hood in the photos we have seen is what was taken to be the grim reaper perhaps?

Yes, you're right: http://www.argos.co....ber/4041948.htm

That explains it all about the 5th female: The Banshee

And this is the Grim Reaper, as I suspected:

The Grim Reaper was the last hope I had on this series but my god, they screwed it

I guess, but I don't think anyone has ever thought of the Grim Reaper as a ghost with chains! He should be a cloaked skeleton with a scythe. If this is supposed to be him, I really think someone's got a screw loose at LEGO.

So. there's no Grim Reaper on the translated list, we haven't received an official list, and the complaint is the Grim Reaper looks dumb?

Okay.

I mean, am I the only one who thought that maybe, just maybe, the personification of mortality might be a little dark to throw into a theme for 8 year-olds to stand shoulder to shoulder with a guy in a Skeleton Costume?

Posted

I guess no GR makes sense, and the Banshee isn't really a ghost, so I suppose she can coexist with the Specter. Where, then, did the Grim Reaper come from in the original Czech translation?

Okay.

I get what you are saying but Just2good confirmed there is a Grim Reaper in this series:

Grim Reaper has the old hood, however, the Fly has a new moulded head :classic:

They already did it.... sorta

These exceed expectations!

I'll definitely be buying the Bigfoot and Gargoyle, probably the Werewolf too. I'll also buy the Grim Reaper/Spectre- even though the head looks awful, the rest of him is great! Looking forward to the pics of the Fly and Banshee!
