Faefrost Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Woot! I have opinions and I'm sharing them! What does everyone else think? I'm actually in love with this lineup. I know some hate it. But there is just so much cool stuff for a demented weirdo like me to work with. 1. werewolf - probably the figure I'm least excited about. I have so many different ones now, and yet they're all the same. 2. Zombie Pirate Captain - undead pirates are always cool. I have plenty of places for him. 3. Mad Scientist - while I always have room for more mad scientists, I kinda hate this ones head a bit. But love the torso and legs. 4. Witch - too cute and too fun not to like. 5. The Fly - nicely twisted. I suspect he will quickly become a Moc'ers favorite for bad visual puns and horror. 6. Plant Guy - definitely weird. Very weird. 7. Phantom - has a nice fun feel to him. I can see lots of odd genre and SuperHero things to do with this guy. (This will become a running theme.) 8. Zombie Cheerleader - my main display has a Winchester sitting in the middle of it. I'm never gonna say no to Zombies. 9. Cat Lady - I can't look at this figure and not see a potential stand in for Tigra from the Avengers. Beyond that just an awesome figure. And the whip! Lego Fetish Furies for the win. 10. Gargoyle - wow! What a great and yet oddly useful figure. I want a dozen. Actual Gargoyles. Demons. Gargoyle from the Defenders. Potential for Etrigan from DC. I'm working on a modular Dr. strange house. He will be perfect. 11. Skeleton Guy - too adorable not to get one. But a little goes a long way. 12. Rockin Frankenstein - seems very 90's? Kind of cool. Definitely different. As above a little goes a long way. 13. Zombie Businessman - I can always use more Zombies. But he seems a bit bland. 14. Banshee - totally cool fig. No idea what to use it for, but I want one. 15. Bigfoot - really cute. Neat touch with the Camera. At least in this color you can hide extras as short Wookies or something. 16. spider Lady - totally awesome figure. Witch/Goth Chick /whatever an easy to use creepy figure. Quote
Technic Jim Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 (edited) A whip?? The Tiger Girl has a whip??? My god LEGO And why not... There also appear to be a lot of new moulds-the werewolf's; head the lizard man's neckpiece. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought moulds were expensive to make so it seems a bit weird for Lego to spend so much money on making new moulds for just one set, namely this range of minifigures Edited July 29, 2015 by Technic Jim Quote
Shib Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 I've seen a few comments about the werewolf's head being a new piece, but I'm almost certain it's the monster fighters werewolf head in a new colour. CMFs are often used to introduce new moulds that might be used in sets later, yes moulds are expensive to produce, but the average price per piece of a CMF is normally at least 3x that of most standard sets...thats part of the reason for the high prices of CMFs, they are using it as a development line. Eggyslav Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 (edited) They look ok, I guess.... 1. Werewolf Lumberjack: Not sure if Monster Fighters Werewolf head, or new mould, but finally Lego got it right, and made a Werewolf with a TAIL. 2. Zombie Pirate: I love him, the torso print is amazing, plus I think it's the first time we have a printed pegleg assembly, he instantly brings to mind LeChuck from Monkey Island..... 3. Mad Scientist 2: Too cartoonish for my liking, but the torso can be useful. 4. Witch: very fun minifig, at least she's not bald, the new hat mould is great, I would love to see it in other fantasy/horror themes..... 5. The Fly: Absolutely genius, the Davy Jones pincer hand looks pretty cool, gives the fig that sweet asymmetric look.... 6. Carnivorous Plant: Yes I think that's a plant, not a guy in the costume, Have you noticed how terrified that face is? It might sound too gruesome for TLG, but, If I were devoured by a Venus Flytrap on steroids, I would scream in pain and terror, would be cool if the head had printing of gaping, teethed maw at the back.... 7. Phantom: I think that guy is cute, plus I really want his hood and cloak..... 8. Zombie Cheerleader: really TLG? REALLY? Well, at least it's not a zombified S1 skater... Oh, Wait....... 9. Cat Lady: Rrrrrrrawwwwwrrrr......... 10: Gargoyle: Amazing fig, I totally adore him! Perfect for some gothic buildings, or fantasy settings..... 11. Skeleton Guy: pretty cool, but not very useful..... 12. Monster Rocker: Hmmm, a creature brought to life by a struck of lightning, playing a electric guitar, perhaps in a Death Metal (pun absolutely intended) band... Totally makes sense! Kinda makes me think of Rocky Horror Picture Show, dunno why..... 13. Zombie Buisnessman: Meh, another zombie... I like his hair though.... 14. Banshee: Great Minifig, but I'd prefer her rather with a printed skirt slope, or regular legs, rather than Ninjago ghost wisp.... 15. Bigfoot: Good, cheap way for getting a lot of cameras, if you don't have one (like me ), but other than that, he looks a little bit bland..... 16. Spider Lady: Clearly Lego's Lawyer Friendly version of Elvira, Mistress of Dark. Still, a very cool minifig, dat transparent cape...... Edited July 29, 2015 by Eggyslav Quote

It's a new piece. Look at them side by side. There are ridges on top of the new part and more defined cheek bones. Quote
Dorayaki Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 (edited) Overall thoughts: Werewolf: .... new mold? But still not too into it..... Pirate: Not a bad design, honestly. It can still be an addition to any Pirate scene. Scientist: Love it! Being another one yet very original. Witch: Not something new though the design is lovely. Plant/Fly: Very good works, though I'm not too into these. Spectre: Uh... looks like the lowest level of the Death Eaters from HP... Tiger: Lovely!! Cheerleader: She's nice, but mostly because the red one was uninspiring. Gargoyle: Great reference yet original in LEGO world. Skeleton Guy: Very good idea, at least its not a real skeleton :p. The latern seems to be the real star... Monster Rocker: yet another "Uhrr....." why don't at least change to a new instrument? Businessman: Not a bad look, though not sure if he's a popular one? Banshee: YES! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS! Bigfoot: Uhmmm... reasonable recolor I guess? Spider Lady: Neutral to me, not bad yet not too original. Excluding the rehashing ones, it's definitely a good series. Not sure if I'm willing to see another themed series, but hope that we can still see (original) monsters in later series. 8. Zombie Cheerleader: really TLG? REALLY? Well, at least it's not a zombified S1 skater... Oh, Wait....... That reminds be of LEGO ROCK BAND. In all unlockables those alien imposters occupied almost the half roster. Edited July 29, 2015 by Dorayaki Quote

It's not the same, which makes me think it could be a mask, because it doesn't make any sense to produce such a similar headmould in less than 3 years. And why not... It looks good but kinda.... mature Back when the first pics leaked, I posted on this thread that she was only missing a whip to complete the sexy costume look... and it came to be the case, which fairly surprised me Quote
Shib Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 I'm still unconvinced on the werewolf head...I can see the differences described but it looks like it could equally be down to angle/post processing, in the same way that there is a slight glow effect on the ghoul's head, it doesn't necessarily mean the part will be GITD, it could but might not. I don't think it could be a mask piece either, it doesn't look the right dimensions to accommodate a mini figure head inside. It could be a new part, but until I see it in hand I'm going to assume it's the same part in a new colour. If it is new, I do think it was a bit of a waste of money developing it when there is a near identical mould ready made - even if they needed to remake the moulds because they were damaged, etc they should still be cheaper to reproduce than design a completely new one. Shib Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Ah, hadn't seen that image, only the one from the checklist. From that photo I do see what you mean about the possibility of it being a mask too...which could explain the development of a new mould as there is likely at least concepts for a wave 2 of the Scooby Doo theme so more villains to unmask would be a necessity. gedren_y Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 (edited) The Monster Rocker is a parody of a parody of a movie version of a character in a 19th century novel. He is one of the band members from the Monster Mash music video. The biggest difference in the werewolf molds, and what makes me believe this is a mask, is where the head meets the shoulders. The MF mold goes over the shoulders, the upcoming CMF does not. This is closer to the Chima molds. I'm betting the head will be the Lumberjack's face in a balaclava. Poltergeist Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 I'm so excited for these. I loved the Monster Fighters theme. And monsters are just fun. Quote

Bugbot2008 Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Wow I did not expect to see a reuse of the Davy Jones claw! I'll be picking up a few of these for sure Also who also thinks the two ghost figures look like they could be a mr & mrs coupling? Quote

I kinda want to pick up Mr. Krabs from Spongebob now and give him those claws. And yeah, they could make a "cute couple." Dignik13 over on Flickr would probably love this idea as she usually posts pics of Lego CMF figs that make good couples. Quote
naugem Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 I'll get the Fly, The Cat-Lady, the Gargoyle and maybe the Plant Costume Guy. Quote

Given that this is the LEGO Minifigures: Monsters series and not LEGO Minifigures: Costumes, I'd say there are more chances he is a monster rather than a costumed guy. But you have an interesting point: He could be reused later in the SD theme as a villain with a mask. So, my guess is that he is a monster and has a unprinted gray or black head inside I love how they tried to hide it with the black background on the sheet. Major props Lego. If The Tiger Girl has a second face similar to the S12 Fairytale Princess', she will be the most outrageous minifigure ever Edited July 30, 2015 by Robert8 Quote

To me some still look like costumes, though. Edited July 30, 2015 by Dorayaki Quote
Shib Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I would guess that if there is a head under the werewolf head it would probably have a print similar to the older CMF werewolf - in the same way that the Chima heads had a print like a flattened version of the moulded head. Could be blank though, but it seems more likely to me that there would at least be something on the head. Quote
Fuppylodders Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I seriously doubt there is a minifig head underneath the werewolf head. Look at the size of a minifig head, amd how wide it comes out in relation to the shoulders. Now look at tue lower inward sloping part of the wolf's cheek. There is no way a head would be inside that. It'll simply be a typical moulded head that slots on instead of a minifig head. Quote
Shib Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 To my eye it doesn't look any smaller than a Chima head. It might be a moulded head, that's what I originally thought, but it does seem strange making a new mould so similar to the Monster Fighters werewolf head so soon after for no apparent reason. The mask idea does have a certain logic, of course we won't know until it makes it to the shops or images of the head on it's own leak. Quote
obsidianheart Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Kind of feel like if the Werewolf head were a mask, there would be eye-holes in the mold like every other mask (and the Chima heads). Quote
AmperZand Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 It's strange that some are clearly costumes (e.g. Skeleton Costume Guy), others clearly real monsters (e.g. Spectre) and others indeterminate (e.g. Witch). Quote
Legocity2713 Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 If The Tiger Girl has a second face similar to the S12 Fairytale Princess', she will be the most outrageous minifigure ever Well, when i get her I am officially changing her head to that. Thanks a lot... Should we expect MOCs with this? But seriously, I'm loving how that werewolf is actually the lumberjack from one of the other CMFs transformed. (Even his axe transformed into a bone) The same goes for the other Zombie minifigs, its just a really cool theme for this wave. Can't wait for a picture with the human and monster versions side by side. Quote
Lancethecat Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 This looks like a great lineup, but I just have a few thoughts to add: - I think LEGO went a bit overboard with the new molds here. The Werewolf's head and the Zombie Businessman's hair look almost exactly like pieces that already exist. - The Crazy Scientist looks too cartoony and un-LEGO-like in my opinion, and we already got a really good CMF Mad Scientist a few years back. - The Plant Monster is my least favorite of the bunch (it looks more like a guy in a plant costume than a guy getting eaten by a plant). What I don't understand is that LEGO is fine with gruesome depictions of plant murder, but won't show anyone getting eaten in the Jurassic World video game (which is about man-eating dinosaurs, for crying out loud). - The Fly's claw looks great (nice to see that part in use again) but I really wish he had two of them. - It's so hard to pick a favorite from this series, but if I had to choose, I'd say it's probably the Zombie Cheerleader or the Gargoyle (can't wait to see that one in upcoming city MOCs).
