dr_spock Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 I think the Spider Lady is based on Queen Arachnia, the Queen of the Spider People (just turned into a vampire) I don't think Spider Lady is a vampire. Some species of spiders do have fangs. She could be a black widow if there is a red hour glass on her belly instead of a spider. Or more subtly if they gave her a more pronounced hour glass shape figure. Quote
8BrickMario Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Read her bio, she's definitely a vampire. I've looked two Targets, a TRU, and a Walgreens, and no S14. I'm beginning to worry that I'll never complete the series! Quote

gedren_y Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 About the gender of the personification of Death; in many pre-Roman Celtic cultures the mother goddesses were also goddesses of death and destruction. The Banshee is actually a herald of death, not just ill fortune like the CMF bio. TLG did the softening. Ghosts and other dead things are okay, but foretelling someone's death is not. Huh? I guess since she is in the Minifigures Online game they had to make it so that other characters weren't always dying around her. Her look is another issue entirely. I guess a rabbit's head with sharp teeth is a little "out there" for a children's toy. Given that the word Banshee is an anglicized version of the Gaelic ban-sidhe, translating it into a language from a culture that said creature did not come from would cause problems. Quote

gedren_y Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 (edited) Marvel Comics' Death has always been female. Especially in the Deadpool video game. Thanos is in love with her. That's why he smiles in the mid-credits scene of the Avengers. I swear I've never heard about the Grim Reaper as a woman Never... Have you never seen the Showtime TV series Dead Like Me? Ardelon Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 As a Slav, Death is usually portrayed as female in my culture (and the word "death" itself is a female noun) but not exclusively (same goes for the neighboring Slavic states). But I always assumed that TLG would go with the more stereotypical americanized cartoon portrayal of the grim reaper as a male - similarly to what they do with other minifigs. As it turns out. we didnt get Death / Grim Reaper in any gender. (Nor do I expect to. But then, the lines of whats acceptable get blurrier every year.) As for the spider lady, I see her as spider-based vampire, unlike the usual bat-based ones. Quote
8BrickMario Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 If we ever get a Grim Reaper, it'll most likely be the most recognized portrayal of a cloaked skeleton. Since that image doesn't look very feminine, it would probably be characterized as male. However, since the whole thing was likely just a translation error, and because it would make a pretty boring figure, I doubt we'll ever get one. Quote

A grim reaper is easily doable with current Lego parts, as opposed to many of the CMFs which have previously never been done, or have not been done in such nice detail. I just think a reaper would not be unique enough, and also, the whole point of the reaper is a little too dark for the scope of CMFs. Lego likes to skirt around such topics as death, as seen with the flavor text of the banshee. "The Reaper" just isn't very subtle. Also, the ghost figure from this line that was just released fills a similar niche to be quite honest. In other news I now have 10 fly figures, and one of all of the rest except for the cheerleader and maybe one or two others. But 10 flies, though. so good! ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote

8BrickMario Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 How much can you do with featureless black robes? How would they create a unique-looking skull print? It's an incredibly easy fig to make on your own. Quote

Dannylonglegs Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 I'd say new scythe piece, new hourglass piece, new skull printing, even new wings. Hourglass piece could help make it unique. I don't know why they'd make a reaper though. It's very obviously related to death. new scythe piece would be meh. They're always making new sword pieces these days. Black robes are ubiquitous, and I don't see them making a winged death. Too angelic, methinks, and therefor too religious. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
