I'm always skeptical of these 'x theme didn't sell well' arguments. How are we to know? Just seeing sets linger on shelves for a long time in your area, or be discounted, is not enough to know. We the public never know how much cost LEGO puts into a theme, how many units the company produces, what the projected desired revenue is, etc. The only entity that knows that is LEGO. Obviously some lines do extremely well and others don't, but it's nearly impossible for the public to know. Even purporting to hear it from a LEGO employee is not enough unless that person actually works in the business department in Denmark.

With all of that said, I don't think Monster Fighters ended prematurely. It seemed like a solid one-wave theme to me, kind of like Pharaoh's Quest. Not everything has staying power. The fact that Monster Fighters was only one wave says nothing about how LEGO Monsters do on the market. With Universal's Monster Cinematic Universe in the works, it seems some business people think Monsters will sell, and LEGO has clearly been on that bandwagon first just with CMF, then with Monster Fighters, and now with the Scooby License. Maybe the Scooby License will only be a couple waves and then it'll be on to the next Monster related thing, or a break for a while.

OMG! Heart palpaltations right now haha . But seriously this is the most expensive year for Lego yet, I plan on spending over £1400 on Lego in the first half of this year alone (I really need another job). All of these sets sound interesting though, I can't wait to see images (shouldnt be too long I hope). I'm so glad it's the classic Scooby Doo as I grew up watching them awesome cartoons. :classic:

I remember a lot of the sets going on sale though. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's not that great of a sign.

Also, could we pin this?

They're not going to bring that line back. It was discontinued in the same year it was introduced. That's how poorly it did.

I'm pretty sure that is incorrect. The line lasted altogether two years when they retired the haunted house. The rest, except the zombie set, were around for a year. Not to mention the haunted house was considered by many to be the best set of 2012.

but do they really? seems not.they are not making any new sets.

Well the sets are still on their website but the thing is I'm not sure about whether or not they can advertise for older products when they no longer have the license rights.

Well said. Monsters have always been a popular subject and I believe the monster fighter theme showed it will sell as Legos.

They can until the very last day their license expires. Meaning they may technically still hold it and hasn't transferred to TLG yet. But that doesn't prevent TLG from preparing to,get the license as they could start selling the day they take, over.

All sets came out in 2012. The sets may have lasted on the shelves longer, but the theme was canceled in 2012

As previous users said maybe MF was programmed to be an one wave series. And as a whole this theme seemed complete but being a fan I just wish we got more from the line that's all. Edited by LOTR34

How was it cancelled? Don't think they would continue selling sets for a cancelled theme. And having just one wave does in no way mean it was cancelled. It just means like most movie waves, there is only one.

Cancelled...discontinued...Point is, the theme started and ended in 2012.

Makes sense but can TLG already start showing off their new products at various cons across Europe and the US? It could be considered as a form of advertisement.

Which most likely includes people from Cartoon Network and Time Warner, who owns the rights to scooby doo. I'm sure their agreement would express what could and couldn't be done.

It's classic? Oh thank goodness! I was wrong! I cannot tell you how happy I am about that. What a relief.

This is literally a childhood dream come true! When I was a kid, I built a very crude version of Scooby and the gang, and have some very fond memories of playing with them. I'm gonna have to get these just to fulfill an age old childhood wish.

Man, this is good news.

Thank you, LEGO.

Okay, here's what I remember about Scooby Doo, aside from what Brick Fanatics has already mentioned...

The mansion is open-backed and fairly large (not sure it's quite worth the £99.99 price point but then LEGO's prices for everything this summer seem to have had an extra £10-20 stuck on for good measure). It's comprised of three sections with a central spire and two side rooms. I don't remember many of the play features but when the rep picked it up (which he managed to do with one hand, to give some perspective on size) a coffin fell out from somewhere. He also mentioned 'broken glass windows', though I'm not sure whether that was an element or a sticker.

The Mystery Machine looked pretty small but did come with a walking tree (i.e. you could push a toggle on the back to open/close the branches and make it look as if the tree was animated) to chase the gang, which was pretty fun. There's plenty of bright colours as you'd expect - the plane is the same colour scheme as the Mystery Machine - though the lighthouse stood out as a more neutral set with a pretty impressive design. The mansion had a black/purple colour scheme, IIRC.

I'm not sure how accurate the scale of the prelim figure art was supposed to be, but Scooby looked as tall as a minifigure. My guide also confirmed that a LEGO Scooby Doo film will be released later this year.

Oh joy. I wonder how that will turn out.

Thanks for the info!

Uh oh. Is it going to be like TLM or just some crappy animation with bending arms and legs and other things like that? (I really hate that..[i'm looking at you, Clutch Powers])

Thanks for all the info! I have a two questions...

1) What was the minifigure distribution for the gang across all the sets? Like, which members came in which sets?

2) Who was the villain for the Mystery Machine set? Was it just the walking tree?

Also, especially since it's by WB, I'm sure that movie will have a DVD release with a promo minifigure.

I am really very glad to know that this new upcoming Scooby Doo theme, will be based on 'classic' cartoon series! Totally awesome!

Will definitely be getting all of them.

Can someone link me to the source that say it is based on the classic series?. A proper confirmation, not just some saying it looks 70's

None of the reports confirm or deny what it's based on. Hopefully someone looked at the box art, as if it's classic it'll have those designs and if it's Be Cool it'll have the redesigns.
